Regarding Billie Pipers performance, I 'm pretty sure that she said herself about returning for the season 4 episodes that she had lost touch with the character of Rose and had trouble getting back into it. Not sure about the details.
I'd seriously suggest listening to "Rose Tyler: The Dimension Canon". It blows almost all of these stories out of the water, redeems Rose on audio, gets dark as hell and Billie Piper turns in one of her best performances as Rose. Please, you won't regret it.

I just want to say to people that just started Big Finish, don't let it deter you if you find some non-memorable, unremarkable "filler" episodes - particularly in New Who (sorry, don't wanna be a downer here). There is some quite gems there, not just the story but also the story telling - like in the Torchwood's Sea Soundscape, where the entire episode is just Michael Palin narrating you on self-relaxation.
Anyway, nice review, Harbo. The Time Reaver part is super true, the world building in it made me wish if only Doctor Who had a Mandalorian-level budget.

The War Master and Missy ranges are New Who, and pretty uniformly great, but yeah, most of the other New Who stuff is on the weaker end of the spectrum.

RTD, David Tennant, and Catherine Tate was and still is, the best thing to happen to Doctor Who. (New Who, specifically speaking)
RTD is by far the best writer out of the three we've gotten so far.
Donna is my favorite companion and we will probably never have a better one.
And finally, The 10th Doctor will ALWAYS be my Doctor. The best of the best. (Sorry T Baker fans, plz don't hurt me lol)

Big Finish Content!!!
One of the best 10th Doctor stories is an audiobook called Pest Control, it's a pretty bog standard plot, but the sound design, music and Tennant's narration give it such an atmosphere and make it chilling at times.
Thank you for bring this. Big Finish audios with Tennant, Billie and Tate is amazing. And now in 2021, have so manny incredible stories like Dalek Universe, 1, 2 and 3.

You should definitely listen to The Forever Trap. It's not Big Finish, but it is read by Catherine Tate, and she does an excellent job capturing the Doctor's voice and mannerisms.
I'm so glad you're tackling Big Finish. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Big Finish Torchwood series, or even some older spin-offs like Iris Wildthyme and Sarah Jane Smith. Ooh and since you seem to like the Eighth Doctor Adventures, I'd love to hear about those too!
I’m surprised that the Weeping Angels of Mons didn’t make the list! Excellent concept for a story that ties in with Mons history. Albeit I a comic, I’d love to see it adapted!

First Big finish stories I listened too, pre ordered myself a vinyl for the 9th doctor adventures and I can’t wait!
Personally as someone whose start on Big Finish was the 10DAs, I have to say they're mostly solid but not as spectacular as some of Big Finish's other stuff (All of the Robert Shearman stuff is absolutely incredible, and you owe it to yourself to listen to Jubilee if you enjoy the episode Dalek)
The recently released 10 and River boxset is again mostly solid, but I really enjoyed Expiry Dating

Well people talked about it like it was some filthy degenerate smut-filled disasterpiece so I skimmed through it for the meme but it was just boring, so I'm glad I only skimmed through and didn't properly listen

It's a bit of an odd one, and my only real dabble into Doctor Who audios, but I THOROUGHLY recommend Dead Air by James Goss. Tennant is playing every character, as it's told by The Doctor in a recording made after the story has finished. Absolutely gripping and I loved it as a kid. The CD should be fairly easy to get?

If you enjoyed these, I’d also suggest UNIT new series. They’re another great new-who esc series, that was my first big finish audiodrama.
The UNIT stuff is consistently strong.
I want to get into the Big Finish stuff so badly. So. So. Badly. I just can’t justify the cost to do it. It is so expensive in the long run.

Big Finish is great, but i'm not actually English so... I don't understand most of the script😑
This is what has always puzzled me. From the way you have spoken about the show and done your reviews I have always concluded that you can’t have ever listened to big finish. And yet you are an 8th Doctor fan, which means you must have listened to at least his big finish stuff. I don’t believe that he can be your favourite Doctor from the TV movie alone. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
I only really jumped on big finish recently myself, prompted by the weekly lock downloads they have been doing. Started with the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller series (Sheridan Smith is excellent as the companion). Then went on to Dark Eyes and Doom Coalition before checking out the monthly range. I’ve been reluctant to go back all the way to listen to Charley Pollard and Evelyn Smythe stuff, because they have been hyped so much I fear they'll be a let down (and frankly it’s too expensive to listen to everything!).
I will say that most of the stuff I’ve listened to is brilliant. There are some duds, but that’s to be expected. For the most part the classic adventures do a lot to improve characters that were badly written in the actual show e.g. Mel Bush (the computer programmer that never did any computer programming), the Sixth Doctor, Peri, Leela (as much as I liked her on the show they’ve given her much more depth in Big Finish). If you ever get a chance to check things out I would definitely recommend.

yes because it started with 5th 6th and 7th, added 8th added 4th and in 2016 added 10th, and 9th came on board last year, not to mention voice actors for 1st 2nd and 3rd

Certain big finish fans being like aggressive vegans is surprisingly apt haha, their in your face nature can be rather off putting but the thing they’re promoting is actually good.

It's not unfair to say we can be like that sometimes, but despite becoming much more popular recently big finish is still relatively niche and often feels like it's not taken seriously by quite a lot of fans. So the aggressive promotion is more a way to make sure people don't write it off.

I haven't listened to it, so I wouldn't know for sure, but I assume other characters in the episode were gay, and Donna is supportive of them, and confused as to why anyone wouldn't be supportive. You don't have to be gay to be supportive of the LGBTQ+ community :))))

Kind of disappointing, no mention of any of the books or comics at all, would have been better to have added big finish adventures in the title.

Mexico you can't eat Mexican food. And if your mixed race then pick one or

Bottom line if you say one group of people can't like the same things as another
group because they differ in race, or country of origin, that is fine, that is

Why are Big Finish audios better than the tv show? This is why I hate Big Finish, you could have something like Blood on Santa's Claw or the Isos Network be on Tv with the current tardis team and have lines suited to their character.
You hate it cause it’s better than the current era?
Because they iron out a lot of the problems with past Doctors and companions; and they also allow past Doctors to have more stories without interrupting or interfering with the current show. Doctors like 6 and 8 often have a bad reputation due to the little content they have, and it's a great way to add more content into those Doctors' timelines and giving the actors another shot without the behind the scenes issues that were perhaps present at the time they were doing TV.
Often times I do ponder a what if Big Finish ran the show, however I stop myself for two reasons. One, Big Finish excels at world building within the uses of audio cues. I like audio stories as they require an engagement on the audience's part to imagine to some extent the settings that are built by the sound designers, It's less passive that watching a tv episode. And Two, I enjoy the War Master range specifically, because it took what small glimpse of a 5 min performance seen on screen and extrapolated it into a ever growing and universally expanding story without traditional limitations both in DW universe or Our Real World. These being such factors as strict censorship, choice of intended target demographics, and the actual cost of filming a television serial(budgetary stuff). Big Finish is like riding a bicycle without training wheels as the writers are allowed more creative freedom within their work and are insanely clever with how stories can be told. Bonus Thirdly: I don't need to watch my phone to enjoy these stories, as they accompany me while I work on things that need doing. Also well put +@@blobfish5730
