All the 100 nicest compliments I've ever received have all been from eBay feedback. I've never been called an A+++++++ person in any other walk of life.
That's for sure *lol*
😂
😂
Bruhhh, I’m the a++++ guy too 😂
Fellow A++++++++++ crew member here! Your comment is so true. 100% positive feedback feels good too.
I feel like "5 of the cards were Sam Vincent" needs to be a motto
I got a paragraph of feedback one time about how the shoes they bought were terrible … I sold them a CD 🤷♂️
Well yeah... the CD fit like sh!t on their foot!!!! Duh
Lol
When I was a senior in high school I tried to sell a few things in addition to cards. Sold a used iPod nano and an old us cellular phone at the same time for similar prices. Accidentally switched up my labels and sent the wrong item to each customer. Back then I didn’t understand customer service at all lol and the prices were similar so I just gave them one another’s addresses and told them to mail one another the correct item. Amazingly it worked and I didn’t get negative feedback from either customer. Still amazed by that 15 years later.
Wow that is lucky :)
@@collectorinvestordealer Lucky for sure. That's the way it should have worked out. Call me jaded and all, but not sure of that happening today.
If you know Dom from Primetime Treasure Hunters, he did that same thing just a few years ago! It seems to work well when the items are somewhat related.
I made the same mistake as you (sent the wrong items to two different buyers) and had the same results. I obviously paid postage for both parties to send to the other. They shipped to each other... and I didn't receive negative feedback. People make mistakes... and there are some good, understanding, people out there. 👍
In the early days of ebay this guy refused to sell me a Wade Boggs card. Even when I offered him double what it was worth, he wouldn't budge. All I can remember from that time were the tears and heartache of not getting my Wade Boggs card. I thought I had put it behind me, but then 20 years later he made a CZcams video about it, bragging to his audience about how he heroically refused to sell me a Wade Boggs card. I will never be the same...
@@RaidenRadio LOL
Now that's Funny, hope you received your $.10 Wade Boggs card,Time Machine rewind took you 20 yrs to Complain even more😂🤣
Haha :)
lol!
The trauma even caused you to leave negative feedback calling the seller a beggar. I'm so sorry, wish I could hug you.
Crazy to think back when I used to send money orders and cashiers checks and sometimes even cash for Ebays items
As a eBay seller for 25 years I used to get worked up over negative feedback and the games buyers wanted to play. Today I don’t get worked up about it and have learned which questions and situations to ignore.
My favorite part of eBay is all the wonderful messages I get from potential buyers telling me how overpriced and undesirable my cards are and that they would be happy to purchase them from me for a lower price and they would be doing so out of the kindness of their heart.
😂
I've been getting a lot like that lately
I like comc for this reason. Buyers are helpless to cry about prices
@@bryanl3659and most cards on comc sit forever and ever there’s a balance if you wanna move cards
Sounds like you need to reprice some of your stuff 😂
You're not kidding about the early ebay days being like the wild west. I had been out of the hobby for years. It was 2001. Walking through Target. Saw some cards for sale. Bought a 2001 Fleer E-X box for nostalgia. Pulled a Ted Williams card with a piece of his jersey. Numbered to 300. Thought it was pretty cool, but had no intention of holding it so I put it up for auction. I had no feedback. And no picture of the card. Somebody still paid $105 for it. To this day I'm still amazed somebody was willing to buy it sight unseen from somebody with no feedback. Okay. Sorry. Not that interesting I guess. 😀
@@XZOL445 lol that was very interesting actually. I remember the Wild West days of eBay from buying and selling things not of this hobby. I still love hearing stories from those days.
i bought 1,000 bitcoin in 2010 for $25. and 30million Dogecoin for $30 i was terrified I was getting ripped off. it worked out pretty well-lol
@@arresthillary9502Will you adopt me so I can be rich too?
I knew the story about the Sam Vincent card but I *didn't* know that they made a second version without MJ on it
that 1 was end of series 1. the 2nd version with same number was start of series 2. if i was told correctly. that set had few big rookies and also the menendez brothers front row of madison square gardens after killing parents but before being charged with it on someone elses card. iconic set.
I bought a couple Mcgwire lots from you in 2018 and couldn't have been any better. Thanks. I still have them and gave away some to a veteran collector that was in need of a little hobby kindness. 👍
I think many buyers claim they never received the item because it was never scanned "delivered" but was scanned as "out for delivery" by the carrier. So several weeks go bye and they decide to scan through their purchase history and open an item not received case. This has been more relevant lately.
Ive never recieved negative feedback before but one seller gave me feedback that the shipping time took too long. It was a card that was originally listed at like $40. I gave him a massive deal for only like $15 and we agreed to ship via ebay standard env instead. He came off as the type that just complains about everything.
I have 100% feedback score, all positive except one neutral. The feedback was “great item, shipped quickly and secure, but thought the item was too expensive.”
On a buy it now card…🙄😂
Haha :)
I just sold a cable tester tool that was brand new. The guy got it and left negative feedback about how he doesn't like the beeping noise it makes... 🤦🏻♂️. eBay took it down.
I often provide unreasonable feedback from left field.
It's good to keep folks on their toes... bravo.
I had to look it up, for historical accuracy- the price of a stamp was raised on June 30, 2002 from .34 to .37.
I had one guy buy a Tom Brady Vanta card from me and as I was prepping to pack I noticed a slight blemish on the card. The buyer has not paid yet so I made him aware of the slight blemish and told him he can cancel or I can give him a discount. The buyer became angry and sent me a series of angry emails. Then told me to cancel so I did. Then he left me negative feedback saying buyer sells damaged cards. Even though money was never exchanged or him actually seeing the card in person eBay did not take down the feedback.
Yikes!
Back in the day, I sold an old unopened pack, and the buyer decided to open it. So he left neutral feedback because he felt he hadn't hit the jackpot for the money he spent. Luckily, I hadn't yet left him feedback, and I'm thinking he left the neutral because he was scared I'd leave him a negative. Back then, sellers could leave buyers negative feedback. I think I left him a positive for paying, but also explained you need to be a big boy if you're going to indulge in vintage unopened.
0 negatives in 12 months... that's wild. I had a 99% rating delivering Uber in Brooklyn and it's like people don't understand sometimes how hard it is to keep that high of a customer satisfaction rating. I think 80% is good. But our society says, "THE BUYER IS ALWAYS RIGHT." But keep 80% of Brooklyn happy...
It's not as hard on eBay since buyers have to prove you did something negative
On the Jordan jersey, they searched inside and outside for a red Chicago 23 jersey to no luck. Imigine wearing one and letting Jordan use it for a real game getting it back with a autograph and a picture with him. $$$$$$$$"
There were many unreasonable sellers in early eBay too. On an auction win the seller had the ability to withhold the invoice and ask for additional "insurance" money above the listed auction + shipping amount. If the buyer refused to pay the additional amount, the seller could just cancel the sale.
eBay now is a much more honest place to buy and sell cards imo.
Thanks for sharing your story. Today i had a negative feedback for a card I recieved an offer on weeks back. I accepted his offer, 1 min later he ask to cancel. I didnt think anything of it and honored his request. Weeks go by and today I noticed he left negative feedback for said card that was never shipped nor actually paid for. " this is not a real auto" even though its verfied by topps.
There you have it. Now the fun part, getting ebay to reverse it. Im pretty sure they wont. Fun times.
Never got a negative feedback but I had one buyer message me trying to buy an A.Rod card from me a few years back. Kept saying how he was a steroid druggy and is going to be kicked from MLB. Just kept messaging me and trying to buy the card for cheap. I just ignored him after awhile.
Fun stories, I also remember the early days of Ebay and "wild west" is exactly how I describe it also. I remember there was some sort of special auction involving an autographed item if I recall correctly and everyone was ganging up and leaving that person 1000s of negative feedback, pretty crazy.
Definitely true on the lack of rules for feedback in the early days. In the late 90s I was selling stuff and a competitor filled my account with negative feedback from multiple accounts. His English wasn’t rock solid and he had the same typos from all accounts. The best I could do was comment on his feedback to say point out his true agenda. The dude was ruthless but luckily also fairly incompetent.
Great video. Thanks for stirring the old eBay memories.
I remembering that happening a lot... competitors filling peoples account with negatives.
Been selling on ebay since 1998, a lot has changed. Mostly my attitude about angry buyers. Like you Chris, I just dont engage any more. Leave me a negative. In my experience, if unreasonable ebay will remove it.
Was the buyer's name "Scam Vincent"?.
😂
Zing!
I think I remember leaving hostile feedback on sniper bidders when you could see their actual eBay name as winner of something I wanted.
Ahhh the Wild West of early eBay was a trip! It's going to go down in sports card history, so many crazy stories! I too used to send cash with a SASE, still treasure cards in my PC from that time.
Anyone who has sold things on EBay has run into this problem. Some people just can’t be pleased and there is nothing you can do about it.
After seeing this I bought a Sam Vincent card for $3.50 and $1.37 shipping and tax. Well worth it after the Sewall story. Thanks Chris
I remember when Ebay was selling animals, guns and Russian brides.
i got one of those Russian brides. she still makin' me samwich's
I bought two of each. I like the goats, they really put out.
I sell cards thru Mercari, as a side gig (doesn’t take up too much free time & a few extra $ helps). I typically sell Modern Sportcards, and usually make the lowest price $1.50 w/out shipping because it’s not worth the time or effort for anything less. There is a system in place to make offers on each listing, but there is a group of buyers who refuse to use this feature, and instead send me a message from the listing with a random price “$0.93?” and that’s all I get. It cost more for the envelope, toploader, sleeves, not to mention my time, but it happens over and over again. Now I just block them because I’d rather not sell a card ever again than just give shit away!
that sam vincent was end of series 1 and replacement start of series 2. its an iconic card. i sold 1 raw for $20 or so last year
I have the same Ebay account since day one from 1998. I miss how trusting it was in the early days. I used to get 1998 hardcourt boxes deliveted before I even sent the $60 money order.. have only sold a few things. I'm just primarily a buyer.
I remember the early days of eBay and the feedback system back then. Damn I'm old!!!
Hi Chris, thanks for the funny/great story from the early EBAY days.
Don't you just love people nowadays! Lol. Thanks for sharing Chris. Yes I've had a few wacky feedbacks as well
Crazy, albeit great stories. Just goes to show how much eBay has changed over the years.
Noone has ever complained when I sent EXTRA cards 😂😂😂
Buyers use that feedback over us sellers like an old dark long lost secret...
We sold 2 wax packs of 1987 topps football. The buyer left negative feedback claiming because there were NO big name rookies or stars only a Dan Marino leader card. He said they were obviously searched and resealed.
Ugh. That would be frustrating!
lol at them not knowing about the sam vincents that's wild
Back in the day (‘02-03 or so) I bought an ‘86 Jordan off eBay. Sent to Beckett, came back trimmed. eBay worked with me and got a full refund from the seller. I was, and still am, amazed.
Love your vids brother, mine is not a card story but regarding a Mitchell & Ness, San Diego Padres Dave Winfield. Guy wins the bid, but doesn't pay, so after three days eBay is pressing him for a payment. He texts me, Dude, you sent eBay after me!!!!!! I told him after three days, eBay takes over on trying to get payment, with notices and texts. He puts feedback as "Seller has nothing but junk, bad transaction".....He never paid.....😎🤣
I sold a 200 card lot on ebay and received a negative feedback because the lot didn't have a specific card in it which the description, pictures or title never stated that he would get this card in the lot.
I suppose that selling on eBay is dealing with the public, albeit anonymously. But have been using this line for 40 years: "At some point in their life, people should get a job working with the general public. It will open your eyes to how unreasonable and petty some folk are."
dealt with the public for 30 years. the trauma turned me into a sports cards hermit
The feedback was the wild Wild West and I got negatives from people without any transactions
Sold a raw lot with an EX-NM description. I tell buyers I am not a professional grader, that its my best opinion. Stated that was my overall evaluation of the cards.
Buyer (with low feedback, classic!) gave me negative feedback and broke down the how many cards fell under each condition.
I have 1500+ feedbacks. First and only time a buyer disagreed with my "grading"
Drove me nuts for a few weeks. After a handful of similar sales that resulted in positve feedback I just let it go
There are also people out there who ONLY leave negative feedback. It’s wild. Not happy with any of the hundreds of items they buy but keep coming back to buy more 🤔
I’ve got a couple neutrals on like $2-3 dollar PWE shipped cards. They claimed the cards weren’t protected enough during shipping….. however the cards arrived in perfect condition…. Wouldn’t that mean I had exactly the right amount of protection? Lol
Thank you
Nice funny video! I think Uoper Deck made a card or two with Jordan wearing #12 after his playing days, but that Hoops Sam Vincent card is still THE #12 card to most collectors.
Even I am aware of the collectibility of the Sam Vincent card.
I get 1 or 2 negatives a year out of about 2000. Its always bullshit, every single time. Had a guy tell me he was going to neg me unles I gave him a partial refund. He literally gave negs to every single buyer he bought from. Ebay refused to take it off. Feedback is worthless unless the seller has tons of negatives. Ignore it if they have less than 2% negs
I had a Neutral feedback that confused me as well. Person left something to the effect of " Fast Shipping, Cards as described, Great Seller, Thanks" I figured they maybe hit the wrong button. I also sent them an email and they didn't respond.
Most of my absurd interactions are people asking unreasonable things in messages these days.
I have had a few buyers leave neutral/negative feedback on purchases because of charging “exact shipping costs” for graded cards in a BMWT - comment - shipping charges too high
Not related to cards, but I work at a restaurant and one of the things I do is make all the salads. Normally with a Caesar salad,it is plated in a boat made of Romaine leaves. But we only had flat leaf romaine in house (that's how restaurants work, they can't stock product that their produce distributor doesn't have at the moment)
Anyway,I put the salad on top of a couple flat leaves and it got sent back by the customer, because they wanted it in the boat.
Just thought I'd share some stupid feedback on another subject.
That 1990 NBA Hoops set was printed to the moon, but the Jordan #12 Sam Vincent card wasn't the only oddity in it. There was the Mark Jackson card showing Lyle and Eric Menendez sitting courtside at a Knicks game while they were on the lam from the authorities after murdering their parents.
😬
I recently got my first negative in 25 years, because the sealed case of 2023 Donruss Optic football blasters i sold, buyer claimed “Seller opened the case, took good cards out and re-taped box”. It was a shipment to him directly from Panini, never crossed paths with me. ebay claimed there was nothing they could do and would not remove the feedback.
I called the police once over an ebay seller that stiffed me. It worked. i got a call after they brought him in for questioning and i got my product :)
Sure you did.
32323 feedback in that Jordan Screenshot was meant to be!
Ebay indeed was the wild west back in those days. I sold a lot of Magic the Gathering cards there along with Yahoo Forums circa 99-01 and was burned many times 😅
I enjoyed this one. How about a video on card variances that are extremely hard to ascertain like the 2018 Topps gold label base and black ohtani cards?
A few things of note here. When I have buyers ask for additional photos or ask how’s the condition? Corners, edges surface all good? I don’t even engage in this kind of conversation mainly because it’s usually followed up by what’s the best price you can do on it or the buyer goes silent and has wasted your time. Rarely do these turn out to be sales. I look at it this way the big Ebay auction sellers aren’t going to waste their time adding additional photos to a listing so why should I. Secondly if buyers want to leave bad feedback I just block them. I’m happy to work out issues including returns or partial refunds if there’s a problem. Just add the clowns to your block list.
Same. You do this for awhile and you can smell the troublesome buyers from their messages.
I was selling a Bowman 1st Orange /25 for $20 or B/O. A guy messaged me, telling me how he bought the same card for $8 already and I was asking to much. He would buy mine for $8 as well. I sent him a offer of $15 and he messaged me again saying he'd buy it for $8. I declined and ignored his messages after.
2 months later someone offers me $15, I take it and ship it. Only after did I realize it was the same guy. About a week later I get a message about print lines. I partially refunded and blocked him, because it is not worth it.
Love your stories Chris, fun relatable content as always 🤙🏽
I wonder how many of those Sam Vincent cards were thrown away, and completely disregarded even though, Michael Jordan, is also on the card. Sort of, like the Mark Jackson card too, with the Melendez brothers. Ironically both in the same year, and set.
Those Vincent Jordan cards were cool. That was lousy on the buyers part
If I purchased a bulk Jordan lot that had a few of the Sam Vincent cards, I’d be thrilled.
I got negative feedback once because the card I sold, and subsequently shipped next day, got delayed in the postal system. The guy reamed me a new one for some reason. Yeah, couldn't help you with that one friend!
I'm sure a lot of people have buyer's remorse, just odd that he shared that in a feedback comment.
They put out the second vincent in series 2 as a correction, yes, because mj was in 12... But it's more valuable than MOST 90s basketball cards haha
The only negative feedback on ebay I got was from someone who wanted a refund because their item was broken. I sent them a label to return it and they said, “I can’t return it because I need it to finish my album.” “But, I thought it was broken? How would it help you finish anything if it doesn’t work.” They wanted a $1000 refund AND to keep the fully working item, and decided I was the bad guy in this transaction. WTF?
I have sold over 10k items on ebay and have received one negative feedback. It was because it looked like USPS played kickball with the package. Item wasn't even damaged, buyer just didn't like the ugly shipping box.
Yeah there are some insane people (buyers) on ebay. Usually they leave negative feedback when they get buyers remorse. I've only had 1 negative feedback in the 20 years I've been on it, but those are always the ones that stick with you. And it's rare Ebay sides with the seller
Wade boggs - "what a fabric"
I just received neutral feedback from a buyer because he broke the dvd trying to get it out of the case.
I bought a movie on ebay in the mid 90's. Seller sent me the wrong video. I kindly reached out to the seller. Seller said keep the movie he sent me and he would send me the movie i purchased. Few days later i received the movie i originally bought and he sent me Saving Private Ryan before it was available for purchase!! Awesome experience!!
Great movie 👍
1998 Upper Deck MJ #5 is the other card showing MJ with that 12 jersey. It's a better card than the one you showed. Almost looks like his iconic RC.
My most recent head scratcher, the buyer got a mixed lot of comics and they gave me Neutral and it said “meh”. That was it. The old fuddy duddy inside me wants to shake my fist like the old neighbor that says “you kids get off my lawn” kind of mentality but I think I’ll just leave it.
Great video Chris! Sam Vincent story is hilarious.
Wild Wild West is exactly what ebay was in the early 2000's. That's how I always describe it.
This one was actually pretty recent the buyer purchased an item I shipped it the very next day with tracking and for some reason the post office in Georgia was having problems so the item went back and forth to multiple centers after about 7 days the buyer contact's me and wants to know if the item was shipped and clearly viewing the tracking you can see it was shipped still not delivered after 3 weeks he leaves a negative feedback saying the item was never shipped I pleaded with the buyer to remove it and sent him the tracking which was visible on his end to he finally removed the feedback and item was delivered after around a month from Florida to Georgia
Small correction: while Hoops was the only one during his playing days, there are a couple MJ retrospective sets from the early 00s that also show #12.
Interesting. I did not realize that.
A year ago I got a Bob Gibson autographed baseball authenticated by Beckett. Beckett uses stickers now only, no authentication cards. I listed the ball on eBay and in the description said it comes with a Beckett authentication sticker. Also had photos. Well the ball sold and I shipped it. When he got the ball he messaged me telling me I needed to send the authentic card with it. I explained that Beckett doesn’t do that anymore, they just provide stickers. It’s new company policy. He thought I was lying to him. Threaten to get eBay involved. Messages kept going back and forth. I even screenshot the message on Beckett website and sent it to him showing and explaining that is what Beckett does now. He still didn’t believe me. Told me he was filing a complaint with eBay. Eventually I never got anything from eBay. Guess he accepted it and dropped the whole thing.
I have a nuetral feedback for a vintage Star Wars accessory where the buyer states "nice accessory" so he is happy but leaves nuetral feedback!? Wth?
I sell more comics than cards on eBay, and people constantly ask to break up sets/runs. Annoying.
selling hot wheels I had a person leave negative over not refunding .50 cents in combined shipping, not taking in account of cost of supplies and tape and packing materials etc. they got a great deal and still upset. just insane. then turned around and wanted to buy again from me, I blocked them
I once sold a collection of like 150 dvds for like 300$..on top of that i boxed in some random dvd´s i had, like a bonus..around 10dvds of the same genre/style (on top for free).
I then got a negative review about sending 10 dvds he never ordered nor wanted...zZzzz..some people are just ...
Had a buyer leave neg from a sealed dvd disney whole $12.95 free ship. So i contact buyer asking what was wrong with dvd being it was factory sealed. At 1st his reply was that he already had the dvd. I replied with really doesnt warrant a neg with you mistakinly buying something you already had. He also said he was still waiting for a refund on a jersey. So check only thing in yr he got was the dvd. Replied telling he never bought a jersey from me...him....Well your EBAY..and had to explain to him how ebay works.
Ebay is getting weird again along with the PWE envelopes getting lost, non payments, and credit card charge backs I've made - 35.00 recently
I find it frustrating when someone leaves neutral or negative feedback without ever communicating their unhappiness with their purchase, especially over a .99 cent card. I would rather refund your money and let you keep the card at that price than take the feedback hit....
The Wade Boggs card your talking about. I’m willing to bet $1k that guy was from California…. Definitely as if you have traveled around the country. That would be someone who is handicapped….. or from California .
I actually want that Sam Vincent!
It's funny, that Vincent card has value because Jordan is in it. lol
Most people no longer had a coherent thought let alone a brain any longer....
Chris you need to see the Dallas Card Show footage of the theft and provide some insight. 2 million in value stolen.
i 100% mailed some guy a money order for like $80 for a hank aaron card when i was like 13. He sent it to me, loved the purchase. But Ya, could you imagine doing that now of days? how crazy is that back then lol.
Does that make you want to block them? I usually wait a day or 2 before deciding to block someone. It allows me to decide with a cooler head.
I got blocked for telling a seller that I was going to buy their card on payday, and I wasn't able to when payday came.
Seller still has the card a 1/1 printing plate of a pitcher that's out of the MLB a $20 card. That was 3 years ago
