As always thanks for the support and comments. Here I present my twist on an old 1972 Matchbox Beetle Streaker. It was never one of my favourites as a kid but now I have made it into something appealing I can display which was a favourite of mine as a kid the Tamiya Sand Scorcher.

Thanks for all your support 😊
You do beautiful work. I love it when folks do custom work as well as 100%factory resto!
Thank you Christopher for the great comment 😁
A masterpiece. Your attention to detail is what makes there's cars and videos so great to watch
Thank you so much for a great comment. I can always find ways to criticise my own work but having great comments like this makes my day. All the very best :)
Hi mate. Love all the work you do with these miniture works of art. Me and my 7 yr old son love watching your videos. Im 41, and probably owned most of the cars you restore. Its great to see you do all these cars, plus educate my son on proper Matchbox car that I had as a kid. Love your work dude. Keep up the great work bro.
Thank you very much.... my youngest sons 7 too. It's great to let him loose on them. He does a better job than I did with Tippex and my mum's nail varnish 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
@@SidewaysKing75 lol I used to tippex my old cars, and also smash my old destroyed cars and make scrapyards.(wish i hadnt now) cos naybe they couldve been fixed. Lol. I had old corgi's etc...!!. I started collecting 70's Tonka trucks for car boot sales which are sat on shelves in my sons room. It would be cool to see you do a Tonka restoration!??😀
WOW, great job on an old casting ...
Turned out FANTASTIC as all your builds do. Keep'em coming, PLEASE.
I intend to do a few more Tamiya replica's.... so glad you enjoy them :)
Wow! Im still amazed at how much hard work goes into these models! 👍
Thank you. It's a good way to unwind I find 😁
awesome builds, I would love to see you build a rusty relic. like a pick up or old barn find to go on the back off one of your transporters. I love the way you mod them in such a respectful way and your ability to take it as far as it should go is spot on
Thank you very much Jason.... its one that gets asked about alot to do a rust bucket.... waiting for the right moment and one will come up shortly 👍🏻 All the best
Great make over you gave the Bug a new lease on life. Like the added details.
Thank you very much Joe its appreciated😁👍🚗
I discovered your channel not long after I had started following several of the other "fairly well-known" restorers of Hot Wheels, Matchbox, etc. die-cast cars, and I must say that you have definitely created your own niche, one that makes you decidedly distinct from the others who do splendid work in their own approaches. As someone who has obsessed over details since I was a young boy, started building models from kits (or assorted construction sets) very early on, has been a car nut nearly my entire life, and even was awarded a degree in Industrial Design following my (now increasingly ancient) Uni studies, your creativity and craftsmanship are very impressive and appreciated. I have enjoyed watching each of your videos to date, and your manner of presentation/speaking is a big part of this, as much as seeing the numerous improvements/alterations over the vehicles from their "original" state - this dragster Beetle continues that pattern. Best regards to you from the upper Pacific Northwest of the USA - looking forward to more installments in the future!
Thank you so much for these kind words it's really appreciated. I've modelled for the best part of 30+ years and enjoyed mainly cars and bikes though I've always collected these little diecasts on and off over the years. After I restored one or two following a break fiddling with the real things I saw a few channels on here and thought I'd share my approach with my own style. Its wonderful comments like this and genuine interest in my work that is spurring me on so thank you. After only 2 months of uploading I'm over the moon how much its gained momentum. I've had my fair share of trolls and abusive comments believe it or not. Everything from my accent to 'im doing it wrong' & 'you're a $%*& moron'...... it was a surprise given the innocent nature of the channel. As I'm somewhat older and wiser it does make me laugh more than anything, but as long as theres those like you who enjoy these I'll keep going. All the best my friend from a wet and grey UK
Mate I have to say, you are the best restorer/customiser that I watch. Absolutely love it. Especially as I cant go out now. I have almost watched all your videos. Cheers
Thank you very much Gary, I'm honoured you think just 🚗🚙👍🏻.... stay safe.
Simply Amazing!! Finally finding someone who takes it next level! Restorations are fine but this is outstanding! Most restorers don't even remove the flashing off the bodies and that bugs me to no end! Superb job!!
Thank you John that's very much appreciated. All the best :)
You did an amazing job I am very impressed you look better than what Matchbox came out with
Thank you it's appreciated 👍🏻
beautiful work brother.its guys like you that inspire me to do my own restomods.
Thank you. That's great to hear. All the best my friend 👍🏻
@@SidewaysKing75 anytime! and same to you. subbed and will be watching for future builds
Excelent!! It's indeed a Sand Scorcher with a twist, i'm pleasantly surprised!
I'm still working on mine every now and then. It also didn't have a steering wheel, i made one from a blue plastic coated paperclip and a hub from very thin aluminium sheet.
Nice idea, bet that was fiddly. Love to see that even it's done 👍🏻
@@SidewaysKing75 I'll let you know when it's done mate, but it'll take a while. Got some restorations and quite some repairs to do on my motorbike first.
This was a good way to make something unique with that sand scorcher paint scheme. Well done
Thank you it's appreciated 👍🏻
Hi, what a heavy work on this little scale! But now it looks much more expensive than before. Very , very nice done.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! Greetings !
Thank you Helmut 😁
Bravo King! That’s not a sideways redo, but up!
Thank you Frank 👍🏻
My car love went; Matchbox, to Lego, to Tamiya.
My first proper RC car of course being the Sand Scorcher.
That was 1983.
I still have one in 2019!
Loved those cars, and this is an awesome homage to that model.
Great stuff 👍🏻
Thank you Stuart..... My timeline went the same too but now bounced right back to all these die-casts that I thankfully never got shot of.
SidewaysKing75 and if you do ever get done with the little cars, then there’s always the 1/10th cars that would be from your skills 😃
@@stuartleckie Actually that area damn near killed me. I was a huge fan. So huge I had a dream to open up my own store and brand with indoor tracks. I was active on the Tamiyaclub site, I was the first some 10+ years ago to make a miniature garage to showcase my builds in. I sponsored events, gave away prizes.... it all went from strength to strength until I let 'friends' come on board and run it. Lost everything! My old videos of the store are actually still on here. Suffice to say the whole RC scene left me a broken man. A life long hobby, like this, I've left behind. You live and learn though.... family got me through it :)
SidewaysKing75 wow.
I’m member number 2 at Tamiyaclub, so I’ve been into that scene for quite a while.
In fact I’m currently building a nice Wild Willy out of 2 cars and a bunch of parts I’ve picked up over the years.
I had to sell a whole load of my stuff when I moved to Canada in 02, but I do still have a couple of my little cars, including some boxed ones, but a much younger me thought it would be fun to plaster many of mine with Humbrol paint BITD so I think they are long gone now.
Thanks. !!
@@stuartleckie we all did it.... mums nail polish, market pens.... our first foray into customising 🤪
Each one is even better then the previous one
Thank you, I do try 👍🏻
Looks good. i'm surprised more people don't super-detail matchbox/hotwheels since there's so much potential to add detail.
Thank you sir its appreciated. There's lots of great builders on Instagram for sure. Some areas I'm having to reign back on or the videos will be two long, unless I make them two parters. Then I think folk might not want to watch them. I'm stifling engine builds down until I can edit something less boring to watch. Thanks for watching :)
Turned out awesome! Thanks for another great video! Got me thinking about my next drag car custom!
Thank you..... get on it, there's no time like the present buddy 👍🏻
The quality of these projects should make them worth some good money just fantastic
Thank you Harrison it's appreciated 😁
Very nice video. Love watching these videos... they are so relaxing lol. You and Marty’s Matchbox Makeovers are the best two channels of this kind in CZcams. Keep up the good work. Look forward to your next resto
Thank you so much John I really appreciate it :) Have a great day
Wonderful restoration and customisation
Thank you Sameer its very much appreciated.
Nice work, way to think out of the box. Thanks for sharing.
Many, many thanks Dan it's appreciated 👍🏻
Dude! Marry me! lol I would have sold my granny to the Arabs back in the day to own a Sand Scorcher.
The Fat Willy's sticker is just genius. I proudly displayed one on my Orion I Ghia back in '92 after an impromptu late night drunken trip to Newquay to catch the early morning surf. Happy memories indeed.
Orion Ghia..... Motor to have back in the day. I had a mate that wasn't the sharpest tool in the box to be honest and he thought the 'Orion Ghia' badge read 'Onion Ring' LOL! still cracks me up now. Even more bizarrely I had an impromptu 'lets go down to Newquay' moment to in 1992! My mates 1.4 Mk4 Escort with half his salary spent on massive Subs, Amps and Speakers in the boot..... Those were the days :)
I could swear I had one of these when I was a kid, only mine was kind of a metallic copper color with black fenders.
I recall they did do other versions of them so probably yes 👍🏻
Very nice job. Love the detail. Still perplexed by the engine customisation.
Very cool as always, The thing that would "bug" me most is the front-mid engine in a beetle, It would be interesting to see how something like this would look mad max-ified though ;)
Your work is in a different league. Total respect 🤘😎🤘
Thank you so much David 👍🏻
Incredible, as always outstanding and keep the work up buddy! Cheers :)
Thank you very much👍🏻
Love these kind of videos , it shows how much time passes :) , keep it up !
Thank you it's appreciated 👍🏻
Hey sidewaysking75, i love your work and videos. Keep going! I would be pleased to see the "Before and After" car shots in a splitscreen. So you can see the great difference in direct comparison. Greetings from a german fan.
Thank you Markus.... I can do that. I'll look in to it. All the best my friend.
Nice customizing and detail work!
Thank you David
I LOVE IT😍 I've never been a fan of coloured windows either, but some drag cars in the 60's & 70's had them colour tinted (spray tint or plastic)
When you started painting the supercharger red, I thought;" Noooo!" but actually, that looks much cooler than a silver one😊😊😊
Thank you Simon its appreciated 😁
Another piece of art! Simply excellent
Thank you Fernando 😁
The custom made windows are brilliant!
Thank you very much Hammy :)
Absolutely brilliant - your work never ceases to amaze! - Needs more Saab tho!😉🤔😂👍
Thank you so much! I have a few but yet undecided what to do with them. I've got a real one too so quite fond of them 😁
Simply amazing Chris....I always am blown away by your builds at your attention to detail is just perfect....what’s next in the Tamiya series?
You, my friend, are too kind as always. Theres plenty to go at as with them all...... I just don't know where to start 😂
Another brilliant post I just love your attention to detail like installing a steering wheel , please keep posting
Thank you Andrew it's appreciated. Plenty more to come 👍🏻
I look forward to seeing that @@SidewaysKing75
Great video! Thanks for the tip of the epo putty. Ive been trying to use milliput but im findng that its shite. Wont stick to the bodywork :(
Thank you. It's great, rock hard stuff 👍🏻
If you put a tiny bit of solder on the wire where you want it to join and then a tiny bit on your iron too, your solder joints will melt together alot faster :)
Glad I found your channel. Great stuff!
What you painted red is likely the blower. 😬 Not the block. 😉
Needs a custom safety cage, other than that great job. Liked the wheelie bar/ body pin idea.
Thanks Dougie.... one will appear soon in another project. All the best 👍🏻
box of jizz...lol, car looks amazing, its incredible how you get them to look so good. im a plastic modeller, but after watching these vids imm going to have a go at a metal custom. keep em coming this is shaping up to be a great channel
🤪 Thank you David.... I enjoy 1/24th cars too, it's been sometime since my last one but either way it's great way to chill out for sure. All the best.
I've been watching a lot of matchbox restor vids and they are good but your something else, just amazing work I'm hooked
Thank you very much 😁 I really appreciate it 👍🏻
Always enjoy your videos and this was as always excellent! Love the details on this car.
Thanks for watching them and commenting. I appreciate your support. All the best :)
Looks stunning, the work and effort you've put in really comes out. One of your best may be????
Thank you very much Davey I appreciate that. Glad you liked it :)
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much Patrick 😁
Another fantastic video! I would love to see a close up of your hover mode general lee
Thank you Lee.... I've got a similar theme in the pipeline and I'll be showcasing this in that video. All the best 😁
@@SidewaysKing75 thanks for the reply.im looking forward to the next video
Wow😯😯 what a stunner. total night & Day.
Cheers buddy... 👍🏻
The windshield turned out amazing
Thank you.... I really don't like the coloured screens they put in them. Thanks for watching and commenting 😁
Fantastic! Excellent work!
Thank you Alan 🙏🏻
Love it! From the Tamiya deco to the custom wheelie bar... its great!
BTW, for those interested, I did a custom Hotwheels R32 skyline and a 69 GTO. videos on my channel
Thank you 😁
Oh wow, double the nostalgia on this one!
Ι love watching ur videos.i love the way u explain it and its a tip to rebuild my dads old vw funny car.Asome job as always
Thanks a lot:) Glad you liked it and that the tips come in handy. All the best :)
That looks incredible! Great job!
Thank you very much
An excellent custom. I don't ever recall that exact model, though - I did have a bright green version, which was just called something like 'Volkswagen Dragster'. There was another VW, released in the 1970's that had no steering wheel - that really bugged me. There are several MB models sans steering wheel. I hated all of them for it.
I know what were they thinking! I drove my Mum insane as a kid "But WHY has it got no steering wheel" LOL! Funny what I hated as a kid I now like as an adult...... Like Carrots and Broccoli :)
Another great vid VW beetle my favourite classic car sad they've stopped producing them now
Thank you 👍🏻
Interesting project. Good job.
Thanks as always 😁
your drag scorcher turned out really good
Thanks James its appreciated :)
Turned out beautiful as usually! Glad you uploaded annother video!
Thank you, it's been a while through work and illness but I'm back on track 👍🏻
SidewaysKing75 ah okey! That sounds good! 😃
Your work is next level
Thanks Seth 😁
Just come across your channel and subscribe, love what u did to this bug, I have the same car in mint condition. But it will stay together for now. Nice work, keep it up, viewing from the south east states of the 🇺🇸
Thank you do much Jimmy I really appreciate the comment and the sub 🙏🏻.... best wishes back to you too 👍🏻
Great work! I noticed in the background something that looked like a General Lee / Back to the Future mashup... You should make a video showing your collection, looks to be interesting.
Thank you. Good spotting, it was my 'Back to Hazzard' project which theres more on my Instagram page. I will be doing something along this theme in the future and will feature the car soon. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
OOOH!!! That thing would look so hot in a bright candy red on top of some metallic or flakes to go with tose yellow windows :O
New life for that bug! Amazing😉
Thank you as always Sharon 👍🏻
Awesome! your attention to detail is epic .
Thank you Alexander 😁
Very nice! Well done!
Cars w/o steering wheels bug me too!
Thanks.... I know right, what are they thinking 🤔
beautiful work
Thank you Eric 😁
Hi buddy, you amazed me yet again, awesome build, keep up the good work sir
Cheers buddy..... Likewise on the real McCoys. I so need to come over :)
SidewaysKing75 anytime buddy, just come over, will message you my number on Instagram 👍
Love your work - my only slight complaint would be using a Big Blue, I've been hunting for one for years! The green Dragon Wheels is much more common
Once again brilliant work
Thank you very much 🙏🏻
Nice job! You are an inspiration to me.
Thank you very much.... I really appreciated the kind words. All the best :)
Another great video, wheelie bar is awesome. 👍
Thanks Phil :)
this is the best diecast mod ever.
Thank you Phillip 😁
That looks awesome!
Thank you 👍🏻
Another excellent restoration and lots handy tips. A+
Thank you 👍🏻
Really nice build
Thank you 😁
Awesome work, your an inspiration 👍
Thank you very much it's appreciated 😁
Quality wins the day, yet again.
You've too kind 🙏🏻 Thank you 😁
A beautiful turn out as always! Keep doing it♥️
Thank you very much :)
Super cool
niceeeee !!!! I like thar you improve on the cars not just restoring !!!
As always, awesome work!
Thanks Felix :)
I recall my Beetle Streaker to be venom green with the Dragon Wheels decal on the side. The lack of a steering wheel bothered me too... later I thought that this was a car that was only going to go straight anyways so it may not have needed one but still. I use the Tamiya clear colors clear blue, clear yellow and smoke for discoloration of exhausts btw.
Great stuff.....I'd like to see that 👍🏻
Love it👍👍
Another top video, as always. 👍🏻
Don't leave it so long next time. 😉
Thank you Sir Bastard..... (Still makes me smile when I see your name). Illness and work kept me away for so long. I'm back on it now brother 👊🏻
@@SidewaysKing75 Glad to hear it. 👊🏻
Suggestion: when removing the two parts of the putty from the two separate packages use two different knives as well so as not to mix them and cause premature hardening of the leftovers.
Thanks for the tip Carl :)
Awesome, thanks.
WOW... beautiful job!
Thank you Laurent :)
Nice job thanks for the tips.
Thank you Enrique... No problem :)
The car looks amazing
Thank you :)
Have you considered building a vacuum forming machine and use it to make replacement windows for the lil' cars?
I haven't to be honest Jerry. Maybe one day as its not the first time it has been suggested. I know what will happen...... I will be vac forming everything then LOL!
Wow, simply wow. I want one if these.
Thank you :)
@@SidewaysKing75 I'm gonna try this, my fault is, knowing how to tape the car for paint like you did.
@@jedistreaming4006 You can do it my friend. Like I always say, don't rush it and take your time and all will be good. It's all in the preparation, the paint bit is easy 👍🏻
@@SidewaysKing75 thanks for the encouragement, I'll practice with a really bad hw I have, is a fantasy car, and see how I do lol. I painted before, just one color lol. I do customs, but not like this VW, I detail them, wheel swap and that's about it. I haven't used decals since the old days of model cars lol.
@@jedistreaming4006 Pleasure. The best thing is they're YOUR creations, nobody elses, as long as you are happy that's all that matters. Practice makes perfect for sure, and don't be put off when things don't initially work. We all fluff things up 🤪 Learn from it and redo. I don't know another hobby where you can buy products so cheap and enjoy the outcome. Have fun my friend 👍🏻
Another great job sir, well done
Thank you very much Phillip 😁
Amazing.
Verry nice job and result 👌
Peace ✌️
Thank you :)
that was great, a good watch
Thank you very much 👍🏻
Figured I would be different. Why didn’t you use a rattle can. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Another great job.
Haha thanks Wes 😁
Awesome, as always. Did you think about lowering the front at all? Maybe it's just the lighting, but the wheel dimensions on the front just look a bit off for some reason... I know - everyone's a critic, right?
Regardless, looks AMAZING - currently binging all your vids and def subscribed!!
Many thanks Darrell. No you are right its not the lighting at all, the front wheels are very small and it could well have done with lowering at the front.... I have another which I will correct the next time around!
Many thanks for watching and commenting :)
