    I added a digital thermometer to my RV oven. It's called a barbeque thermometer and is normally used to monitor the interior temp of meats on the grill but it works equally well inside the RV oven. The metal cable comes through the door gasket just fine. The one I got is a bluetooth so I can see the oven temp on my phone in real time. Brand is Govee from Amazon. There are others that have a direct display but I prefer having the temp come to me rather than going to the oven to see the temp. I also use a conventual oven thermometer but with the barbeque thermometer, I don't have to open the oven to know the accurate temp. I bake artisan sourdough bread 2 - 3 times a week in mine for people here in my RV park.

    Great video - I also did not realize the bottom is a broiler despite growing up with ovens that were exactly like that! I have used my RV oven a lot (the sales guy pointed out that newer rigs were being made without them) to bake a Premade lasagna while we relax outside, scones for breakfast (also frozen and ready to plop in the oven in the morning) and did notice it takes much longer to cook. We have the food thermometers, but the temp gauge is a good idea as well. We boondock with some frequency and while we have a generator, using propane helps!

    This is the kind of informative video I appreciate. When we go full time, I will be doing the cooking while my wife will be the traveling nurse. This is just full of tips I would have never thought of. The only thing, we are looking at Class A's, and a lot of them are doing away with ovens, and going with a convection microwave. I have never used one before! My only requirement in a RV is a washer/dryer. I am not going to the laundry mat!

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck in your search for an RV! I didn't realize they were doing away with the ovens. How weird. I love ours - no power required. Great for scrubs though. 😉

    Thank you for showing me broil !!
    I've been wondering about that every now and then...
    And yes a thermometer is a great idea! Those numbers on dial are just numbers and don't really seem to reflect the actual temp. Also I don't believe there is a automatic temp control unit that keeps a constant temperature by means of flame adjustment. Not sure why it would even have a thermometer probe inside. It's not like it flames out or lowers flow of gas when temperature is reached. Or ignites when temperature drops. Kinda a guessing game for each size and type of food

    I heard that you should not cover the holes of the piece right above the flame with your stone (was not told what would happen with them covered); I see that your stone pretty much covers the holes on the sides but the holes in front are open. That's the same as my oven/stone so I wondered if you have ever had a problem with that? Because of that I put the stone directly on the rack and then place my cooking pan directly on the stone, I would rather bake on the rack! I bake in mine all the time and love it and I didn't know you could use the bottom as a broiler, thanks so much for that tip!

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  Před 3 lety +3

      I have had mine covering holes for two and a half years now with no issues. At least none that I can tell! I like it set up this way because sometimes I can cook two things at once. I can set one thing on the stone directly and one thing on the rack. For example last night I did two trays of french fries that way. Every once in awhile I give them a stir and switch the one on the rack to the stone and vice versa. Hope that helps!

The stone helps to distribute the heat more evenly in the air around your dish. You'll likely need to have a rack above your stone. Is your stone all the way at the bottom?

    Tell the guy taking the video to keep his mouth shut and not make stupid comments during the video. And PLEASE don't use jump cuts in your videos. VERY distracting and unprofessional. Cut the word "like." Your thermometer is not "like cheap," it's "cheap." "This is the metal," ... ya think?
