He wrote this song for his mom a couple of years after she passed away. And wasn't able to sing it because the big amount of pain that this song causes on him, so he gave the song to his friend Spanish singer Rocio Durcal to record it. And on this concert was the first time that he was able to sing it in front of a public. And clearly you can see and feel his pain😢😢

After so many years... This song still makes me cry. I lost my grandmother years ago and every time I hear this song I always remember the last conversation I had with her. as a costa rican i think is not coincidence that Juan Gabriel was from Mexico , mexicans in general are so genuine , their culture is so rich .to latinamericans this song will forever be an hymn .his real name was alberto aguilera valadez and HE SANG WITH HIS HEART thats why no matter what language you speak you could understand the feeling . Little correction ... His mom was at home somewhere else... I believe in Michoacan. He was flying to Acapulco to perform at a concert. She was supposed to meet him there but she passed away. It was in Acapulco where he got the news of his mom's passing. If I'm correct I believe that was going to be the first time she was going to see him perform live in a big concert.

Juan Gabriel is considered for many mexicans as a National Symbol. This song written to his mother was sung by Rocío Durcal in the begining, if you listen to that version also you can listen to one of the most symbolic songs in Mexico, Some years ago this song was declared among the most popular and important songs for mexican culture in their pop music era.
He couldn't sing the song for some years, because the sadness of her mother death, that's why he gave to Rocio Durcal, she was the perfect person for Juan Gabriel songs, she was Spanish but on that time was known in Mexico as the "Spanish most Mexican" and she was really loved in Mexico.
Than more you know about Juan Gabriel, than more you respect his career. I had been maybe in 4 or 5 of his concerts. He was so humble, and a real genious. He wrote his songs and also used to change arregements in live shows and interact so much with people having fun.
Many hispanic artist has their best hits writting by him.
One of hist last public awards, a Grammy for his Career, was given to him by Enrique Iglesias, and he made a reverence before giving it to Juan Gabriel, and he said that Juan Garbiel was a legend, and one of the really few Super stars that remains in the world, and also says that as the Beatles, on concerts, Juan Gabriel causes passion.
This song also in this video was in a concert at the National Palace of Arts in México...for those who loves arts, that is a magical place, is another world, the feeling, the sound, the legends that had played there...
maybe if the proffesor Aalihah Capili could go there one day, even if nobody is playing, with her sensitiveness, she would feel in her heart the story and legend of artistic moments behind those iconic walls of Art.

When he composed this song he had Spanish actor/singer Rocio Durcal record it. Many people for many years have heard her interpretation of the song even though it was inspired by his moms deatg. You should look up Rocio Durcals live performance where she is wearing a big green dress. Thats a beautiful performance as well.

I apologize that video has bad sound quality. I can't find a video from that performance which I think was the best from Rocio. However, this was a younger Rocio Durcal. Fyi her career as an actor/singer was dwindling down and he revived her career by composing music for her and convinced her to sing with Mariachi. She is from Spain, and was a childhood actor/singer.

(It might be a good idea to have the lyrics handy when listening to his music. They may blow you away.) This are his verses and inspiration. He was well known in all Latin America. He influenced many musicians and singers everywhere in Latin America and abroad. This performance was performed in the Great Arts Palace in Mexico. (Bellas Artes) One of the best performance theaters in the world. Best acoustics I've ever heard. He always went all out in his concerts. He had full and absolute control of the stage. A true professional of the craft.

I would love to humbly correct you. Hes not acting. He wrote this song when his mother passed away. There's a deep history where his mom put him in an orphanage when he was around 5 yo. He later reunited with his mom as an adult but he struggled very much. Living on the street and imprisoned for falsely being accused of rape/sexual assault. A lot of his songs where inspired by things he went through in life. When he performs he performs with such emotion because as mentioned before they were inspired by good and bad memories. Like his song Noah Noah ... That was a bar/nightclub where he first got a break to sing and get exposure. Way before he started recording music. Later on in life he made a song dedicating it to that place.

This song is for everyone, but especially people who are mature. This isn't just the lamentation of son for a mother, this is the sadness of a grown man who knows his mother won't be there for the rest of his life, come what may. All the love and regret of never connecting with someone again.

What must, don't know, is that a large part of the scond half was all improvised/added to the song, his thoughts as a side note, im glad it didn't distort the original song too much, he did this a lot in life concerts and sometimes it really didn't pay off, because one goes to listen to the song you love not a huge scramble if sounds, it got specially bad when it was no longer out of creativity but because he started to lose his voice, he will however, for ever be "the Divo de juarez" thanks for your reaction to his work
