- The village of Harmondsworth lies within Greater London's newly expanded ultra-low emission zone, but also has to contend with pollution from nearby Heathrow Airport. Residents give their verdict on whether the daily £12.50 charge for non-compliant vehicles will make a difference to air quality in the village.

Earlier this year, when I had no car for 3 days,I went for some Fish and Chips by Public Transport. It involved 30 minutes of walking, 15 minutes waiting for the return bus plus the return travelling times and I could not pre-order as I could not accurately estimate my arrival: ONE HOUR 8 Minutes. BY CAR: On average 13 to 14 minutes so nearly 5 times longer and, of course, you are warm, safe, and dry in a car.
Absolutely everything takes so much longer by public transport and can be very unreliable as well.
@@DarrenStarr Can you imagine walking in that 32 Degree heat, yesterday for 15 minutes, just to get to the nearest bus stop for the one route that goes there. What about soon when we get the Autumn and Winter rain? How miserable is that to have to go out in that and,of course, that slows the traffic and there are few Bus lanes in Outer London as the roads are narrower so using Public Transport by bus means you are a captive audience and, nowadays, can not be let off to the next stop , however bad the traffic is. At least,on the old Routemasters, you could hop on a
This lady has TWO cars, i dont have even one. Trying lobbying the Tory council to upgrade public services.
They are old cars and now she'll be hammered with ulez. Why do u not have a car? Do u have a licence?
Yes in Outer South East London we will ask for ANY Tube service,as people have done for 70 years.
I was out in 245 beautiful acres in ULEZ Outer London today and said to a Guy "There is nowhere on earth I would rather be". It was blazing sunshine. Beautifully Green and the air was lovely. Any pollution from Air by motors is in INNER London and they have a very good Public Transport system and I know from living there for my first 29 years.
They want every one to be prisoners in there own homes, power , greed , and control.
But how would important people get to climate change conferences if we got rid of planes?
Do you think the mayor of London has powers to just stop planes flying into the airports around London?
Lol, so the old lady already has a ULEZ compliant car, but she doesn’t want to drive it because it’s slightly different to her non-compliant one?
What?
K11 micra is an OG car. Great looks, 50 mpg. And when you strip the interior you have Rallye car like dynamics and control.
One does not have to ‘grin and bear it’ as the man said. One should write to their MP, their London Assembly member, their local council members. Also attend and protest in ULEZ marches. One can support the protest also on social media comments, like I am doing now!
None of that is going to make any difference. You can write 1000 letters and attend 100 protests - ULEZ is here to stay.
Use the generous scrappage scheme and move on.
@@citizen3000 The so-called ‘generous scrappage scheme’ comes from our hard earned money. And it is a mere pittance used by a tyrant to subdue the debate, so that he can continue running London to the ground and despoiling the people. If you are with Khan you have to be a traitor to this nation.
ULEZ is illegal braking bylaws 1984 and 2016
No it isn’t.
Every camera that goes up will be taken down ,infinitely 😂
It's a race. Cos apparently they made £700k in fines already in just 1 day. Don't pay and cameras must come down. Ulez is wrong wrong wrong. Cameras are wrong... Spying on people also.
@@randomeyes There’s nothing wrong about ULEZ. If you don’t like it, you can stay out of London.
@@citizen3000pay £12.50 and you can pollute as much as you like?it's just about making money 💷
@@citizen3000 😂🥴🤦🏽♂️ what a mug
@@citizen3000 You are a completely wrong I spent 29 years living in the heart of S E London, just 2 miles from its epi-centre. THIRTY-THREE Bus routes within 2 miles by 2 Tube lines and many nearby train stations. 40 years ago,I moved just 11 miles to the periphery of S E London where there are few buses, average trains, and NO TUBES, whatsoever so a car is essential. Without a car in March, a 14-minute return journey to a fairly local High Street took 1 hour and 8 minutes.
By car? An average of 14 minutes so almost 5 times longer. Our air is superb and all the car pollution is in LEZ and The Congestion Zone areas, already covered. The benefit? Around 3% reduction in one area: Nitrous Oxide. The cost? Misery for, literally, millions including the old, vulnerable, and Businesses.
My car passed the ULEZ criteria but, unlike you,I am thinking of others. Even that one death over the last 50 years had "xar pollution" as one contributory factor, and, again, that was from INNER London in Lewisham.
Everyone change their number plates to sidiq khan's plate
😅
Take the bloody camera down that bloody simple
“I’ve had to fork out 20,000 for a new Mercedes”
No, you absolutely did not have to do that lol. Jesus Christ.
We’re talking about cars newer than 2005 here. Nobody forced you to spend 20k on an Merc.
2016 for diesel cars.
But that’s what is being lost. Ordinary workers in not so fancy areas like slough Watford and thurrock are the real victims of this policy as buying a new car will be incredibly difficult . Not these people. The media know this and are erasing their voices
@@Daniel_Lav Fair.
Good luck trying to find a compliant diesel family sized car for under £18k...
@@fredfred2363 I'm in the same boat
'This ULEZ forced me to buy a £20k Mercedes' wait what 😂
If its about health then scrap all the non compliant vehicle's ASAP and not a day longer.
Can't afford £12.50 but can afford a £20,000 mercedes!🤔 congratulations you've just embarrassed yourself. He's gonna be gone in May doing your sums may have helped 😂 bmw as well umm nice.😂 vote reform 🇬🇧 🎸.
What about petrol lawn mowers?
It's a total waste of peoples money what about the pollution that moves across the air from other places pollution is always everywhere.....
It isn’t a waste of money at all. Where it is in place already, it has lead to significant drops in pollution.
@@citizen3000£12.50=500 to the people that can't pay. Sending debt collectors to people already struggling. People losing their jobs. Crime and shoplifting will go up. Well done Sadiq khan.
@@trevorbryan9268 Well done Sadiq Khan for protecting Londoners health, yes.
Use the scrappage scheme and move on.
Thanks god the old second vintage cars rich have will be excluded. 😂
At some point Londoner's are going to WAKE UP to the privacy concerns of the state Tracking your every car journey 🤔😳🥸
"grin and bear it" no, join #bladerunners
Nah, Londoners would like to breath clean air, thanks.
@@citizen3000 since being forced onto london transport by Khan I’ve developed a lung condition due to the toxic air. I wish I could drive my car and breathe clean air again.
@@samuraineko3 I don’t need to imagine it: Londoners want to breathe clean air.
If you don’t like it then you and your POS pre-2005 banger can stay out of London.
@@citizen3000calling this person's vehicle a banger proves you don't know what you're talking about.
The money spent on ulez should have been spent on tfl.
The money *from* ULEZ will be spent on TFL, particularly targeting outer London areas with weaker public transport.
@@citizen3000 ulez is not a funding project for tfl. It's apparently for cleaner air.
@@arifmunshi6833 It is for cleaner air. But the money raised from it is being invested into TFL services, focused on outer London areas.
Can you read?
The flying industry needs distroying, agreed, but car use needs to be reduced too. It's not like any of these people didn't know what they should do and chose to give it the big finger.
You can complain as much as you want. I am sure your argument is responsible and real, but we are dealing with a man who......
Does not give a s..t, and just wants your money.
Crazy that people are complaining about airplanes when they bought a house near an airport. 😅
Also the argument: ‘we live near airplanes, airplanes pollute, why does my pollution matter?’ 🧠 🤸♂️
the uk pollution rappresent in total less than 1% of the entire world pollution
it really doesn't matter at all
Yeah but the argument is simultaneously that the pollution from the planes DOES matter
Why was Windsor Castle built near Heathrow Airport? Lol
Plane pollution is a totally valid point. What are u talking about? Do your research please.
