Every year in Russia on May 9, Victory Day is celebrated, which is considered the most important holiday of the year, more important than Christmas and New Year, or Birthday for example. This is a tribute to the memory of all those who died, and a reminder to those living today that Nazism will never raise its head as long as there is Russia. Whatever it's worth.

My mother’s first husband, Bob, was shot down over Germany, his body was gone, there were no remains to bring home or bury. Her younger sister said one night mama bolted straight up in bed screaming, saying, “He’s gone, his plane was shot down & he’s dead.” They didn’t come to the house for a few days. Mama was at work. Her mama & daddy went to pick her up & when she saw them, she knew why, her dream was right. They had been married at Christmas, right before he left for WWII. They were both in their 20’s. RIP Bob Shaffer. Thank you for your service & ultimate sacrifice.

In fact, information about those killed in World War II differs from one source to another. According to some estimates, the military losses of the USSR are 8.7 million soldiers. Losses of Germany and its allias - 5 million. The average loss of civilians in the USSR is about 18 million. And one of the main reasons is that Nazi Germany waged a war to eliminate the people inhabiting the territory of the former USSR. Some villages were completely destroyed. People were gathered together and shot. Or they drove the whole village into a barn and set it on fire. Also, part of the losses of the USSR among the civilian and military can be attributed to the fact that the Nazis drove the captured people to concentration camps, where they were massacred. Some sources report that at one time 55% of the total number of Soviet prisoners of war (more than 2.5 million) were tortured and killed in Nazi captivity. For comparison, out of almost 3.5 million prisoners of war, the USSR released and repatriated almost 3 million.

I agree on the whole text, apart from the bottom. Estimates for German PoWs are between 700k and 1.3mio with the most accurate estimates being around 1.1mio. Out of all allied PoW camps, Soviet camps still had the highest death rates at around 34%. Of course, this is still no comparison to the horrible PoW treatment by Germany.

@@marleykattanek734 there's a global rearming alongside an ongoing war in the Ukraine and everyone tries to justify their governments actions and talk of their own side as if they were impeccable. Just look at all the comments talking about Ukraine being "infested with fascists". These are the basic principles of propaganda. You create fear in people by talking of an enemy army and they will ask for a solution in the form of building even a bigger army. You tell them of the cruelties that "might not have even happened yet but will surely happen soon" and they will ask for retaliation in advance. It has worked, when Hitler accused Poland of attacking Germany, it has worked when both the US and USSR started trying to influence their neighbouring countries and in recent times it has also worked when the US accused Iraq of being an imminent threat or when the Russian Government managed to convince so many, that their "Neighbours where nothing but Nazis and that the Ukraine was even planning an attack on Russia itself". As for my own country - present day Germany - the government decided to expand its military recently and sadly, many people support this nonsense as if more weapons would bring peace.

And only at this moment the "allies" began active hostilities. There would have been much fewer Soviet victims if it had received the necessary and timely assistance from the "anti-Hitler coalition". 1. they say war started when Germany invaded Poland with USSR in 1939. it's true but there are some important moments, like:
      - USSR invaded Poland in 2 weeks after Germany did. After poland fall and polish government left country with golden reserves.
      - They forget to mention that one year earlier Poland with Germany attacked Chechoslovakia. Poland got some new lands as result. (You can read about Munich agreement)
      - Before 1920 this "polish" land and people were part of Russian Empire. They were russian. Poland got it in result of so called Russian intervention. it's when european countries and USA invaded Russia. you can read about it or watc videos on youtube like -czcams.com/video/1mC1bmzbgxY/video.html or czcams.com/video/g1Y0d6gKx7Q/video.html . Herbert Wells mensioned it in it's book "Russia in Shadows". Short one, but extremly interesting. Recomend to read it.
That's why Polish people (who considered themselves Russian) met red army with flowers. There are a lot video about it. i'll find and send it ou later.
btw At the same western side of Poland met German troops with flowers. Even nowadays Poland are politically devided on eastern and western, which can be seen on vote maps.
      - if you watch here on timing 08:05, year 1939 you'll find no soviet losses. Why if USSR attaced Poland.

Just first tipical "western" manipulation at 8:03
You also noticed how beautifully the camera went down on the general diagram of military losses over all war time. And everything is very simple. After all, the West is just screaming now that the USSR is not much better than Reich and so on .. look at the column of orange losses (the first appearance of an orange stripe over a red one means the beginning of the war on the eastern front) against the background of red ones on June 22, 1941. It will immediately become clear how suddenly the Great Patriotic War began. And how gigantic were the losses in the first days of the war ...
Just second tipical "western" manipulation at 11:21.
on the diagram, the losses of the USSR in the Gulag Camps are comparable to the losses in Leningrad visually 1.5-1.6 million people. (But dictor tells us about millions!!!) Let's see what Wikipedia tells us: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulag#Death_toll - as u can see - all "death toll" !!!during all time!!! since 1930 to 1956 is ~1,606,748... so just another small misunderstamding or manipulation...but ok..
These charts cannot be viewed separately from the map. Otherwise, it is impossible to imagine the real size of the front lines and the occupied territories (countries). For clarity - czcams.com/video/-CQatuQdQv4/video.html ... may be it will be interesting for someone...
P.S. i'm from Russia. My english is bad - so don't be cruel for me.. and now it will become clear to you why Russia rejects Nazism and loves Victory Parades. Everything is in history dear friend. Peace to all.

@@sinroarx I find it strange as well to compare wars and atrocities like that, as if lost lifes were only numbers. Especially since many of the listed events are closely intertwined. Still, the deathrates under Mao's and Stalin's reforms are quite high and documented well enough. Same goes for the killing of native americans and afro-americans - both atrocities by western nations that are listed as well. I know that seeing one's own country being accused of faults is not an easy topic, especially when people come up and trashtalk against Russia as a whole. My parents were born in Russia and lived in the GDR during its entire existence and they find it quite arrogant, everytime another westerner comes along and talks about "how everything in the GDR was bad and that the people there were sheep that were saved by the west, etc, etc". That's just nonsence. Same goes for trashtalk against the people of Russia. Still, it is useless to deny, that some bad things happened as they do happen in all countries. My point is, that this mindset of "we are and always will be the good and shall never be critized/the enemy is and always will be the bad and shall always be hated" doesn't get us anywhere and makes entire peoples easily controllable.
