  • Heatherwood Hospital has existed for over a century but as of 2023, the hospital buildings are in their final days. In this video we took a look around the hospital after it was abandoned, exploring the former wards, operating theatres and even the mortuary - just weeks before demolition started.

I worked at Heatherwood years ago. The place itself had a character to it that you became very attached to and the hospital wasn't so big that you wouldn't recognise or see anyone outside of your own team, it did make you feel like you were part of a large family. There were many members of staff who had worked there their whole working lives. Seeing this video is both sad and nostalgic for me. Thank you.

Thank you for this video. Now we could immortalise this amazing place we once called our 2nd home. That Theatre you featured is our Theatre 3 and that came from the Falklands War.

A fascinating film, beautifully shot. What a history the hospital had…thank you for documenting this, just before it was gone forever ❤

I did some work there about 15 years ago, sad to see it like this. Even when I was there it was pretty quiet, unless the racing was happening across the road.

Very interesting but sad. I can’t help thinking what a lot is waste is involved when buildings are no longer fit for purpose. There looked to be perfectly good items like shelving etc. that could have been reused by someone. Also interesting is that, as a 69 year old, much of what you showed didn’t look that old to me!!!

Agreed, yes a lot of modern sections and equipment there especially with all the later extensions but the original 1920s section had an old feel in places and the architecture

Interesting and documented so well. So much waste that I’m sure could be savaged but I suppose costly😞. I wonder why some of the roof tiles have been removed in lines?

Thanks Charlotte. We’re not sure about the roof tiles, hopefully that means they will be reused 🤞🏻
