    The only limiting factor should have been the battery life. Unless the RX had a ceramic antenna, at 250mw, the LQ should have remained high until the battery died. Nevertheless, thanks for posting the experiment and well done!

    How important would you say are your googles in this setup, considering range? Ich have a cetus x kit and thinking about upgrading the drone but keeping the betafpv googles

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  Před rokem

      Antennas are the most important. To achieve this, if you notice the white square-like antenna on my goggles -- that's called a patch antenna. It's a linear patch antenna which mean it's directional, it has a narrow but far reception beam to capture signal. The patch is called the MenaceRC bandicoot.
      Second, goggle receiver is definitely important as well. Even if you replace the antennas on the betafpv goggle, you may still not achieve this range, a variety of factors go into the sensitivity and quality of a receiver itself.
      On the cetus x kit, I notice the antenna for the goggle is off to the side. Are you able to unscrew that antenna or is it set in there? It would not hurt to try buying a patch antenna and installing it if it can be easily unscrewed/removed, just keep in mind that patch antennas are very directional, flying behind yourself you'll lose video.

      @@JohnCuppi thanks for the reply! i did some more research after writing the inital comment. the antennas on the betafpv googles are replaceable and i´ll propably go for some rp-sma circular antenna at first. i have no big intrest in flying far away - i´m happy with a 250m radius, mostly flying in parks and around playgrounds atm. atm i start to get heavy distortion when i´m like 100m away with some obstacles inbetween. i did an open field test today and was able to get around 500m with clear sight before heading back because my battery was at about 50%
      . i just invested some money in a mobula7 and the next upgrade will probably be some better goggles where i can attach 2 antennas and maybe a rapidfire modul afterwards. pretty happy with the erls controller, i don´t see a reason to upgrade it in the near future

      ELRS was the bottleneck. Around 1:30 onward you can see the LQ getting really bad and RXLOSS messages start to flash. But video is fine, although video was getting scratchy here and there as well as the trees were approached, in the end you can see “RXLOSS” and the quad goes down.

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  Před rokem +1

      SPI range = lower the packet rate / hz, and increase output power of the module.

    Impressive! Love my Mob7 v2 except for the mediocre cam. 2 questions:
    Will this one run on 2s?
    Have noticed a few guys run with their vtx antennas bent at 90 deg like yours. Is there an advantage to that, or did it just get bent over in a crash? (I have always straightened mine out if that ever happens).

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  Před 2 lety +2

      No advantage at all, it just got bent in a previous crash. I fixed it in my preflight check before I took off for the distance test. As for 2s, it’s not advertised to run 2s and the motors are high kv (0802 20,000kv) honestly for it. May work ok with an rpm limit of sorts. The X12 5-IN-1 AIO does take 1S-2S input though, so it wont blow the board up to plug a 2s in.
      But there is no 2s battery that will fit the stock frame either so that would be another thing to address. I remember the original mobula7 v1 from 3 years ago came with a 3d printed holder to stack 2 of the 1s batteries I’m using in this video together. But that mobula7 also had 2x PH 2.0 connectors as well, this just has the one.

      It seems that for the last 3 years we have hit a wall in micro analog cameras. This is the same camera happymodel has been using since the introduction of the mobula6 in 2019, I think? The caddx ant lite at 1200TVL would be a great replacement but the trade off is added weight.

  • @Cuisinenomade1

    Another good one. There's something i dont fully understand yet, what is the relationship between hz and mw. I know the hz refers to the packet rates and the mw to the output power of the tx but how do they work together?, there is also tx power output and the rx power output, is there a tx and rx Hz meassure as well? And what is a good combo for having low latency yet decent range, for a whoop of this kind of course. Thanks again.

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  Před rokem +1

      There’s no _direct_ relation between packet data transfer rate (hz) and output power.
      A higher output power will have a further reach and increase penetration overall, however, the packet rate DOES come into play in furthering your distance regardless of output power.
      Think of your radio link range like a straw that starts with a very huge opening, and then keeps narrowing until it reaches the very end. Your data demands fit into this straw easily close by, but as you leave the location, and the straw becomes more narrow, eventually it reaches the point that your data packet transfer demand is too high to fit in the end of the narrowed straw. Once your data demand cannot fit, packets don’t make it to the destination, link quality suffers, and you lose connection.
      If I redid this test with 150hz I could achieve a farther distance but I’d outrun my battery life.

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  Před rokem +1

      For having a decent range and control link feel, I’d say 250hz is the sweet spot for packet rate if you’re doing freestyle. That’s what I run for everything, whether it’s a whoop or not. Have not felt 500hz and up is necessary.

      @JohnCuppi  Před rokem +2

      @@Cuisinenomade1 noooo… 400mw in this video refers to the video transmission out power power. That’s totally different.
      If you’re flying by yourself, ALWAYS max out the video transmission output power.
      ELRS has an output power too. I flew ELRS here at 200mw on my module on 2.4G hz, and 400mw video link at 5.8ghz.
      ELRS can do up to 1000mw, but it is honestly overkill and is a serious drain on battery life. I usually fly ELRS freestyle at no more than 50mw, a little power goes a long way with ELRS. Not so much for video.

I made a video on the singing here: czcams.com/video/7HfyztXcnP0/video.html but anyway, the downside to the motor beeps is that they are not actually very loud at all.
