  • This video details a problem I recently had with my Lippert Ground Control 3.0 electric leveling system. I received a "ERROR LR Jack". The video shows how I found the problem and how I fixed it.
    I have no idea if this procedure works for the Level Up Hydraulic system or not, but you can either contact Lippert - or just try it.

    Just wanted to let you know that I went to a rv site and the ground was so uneven and I got a LR error and I wasn't sure what to do being it was my first time. So I remembered watching your video on it and followed your instructions and it worked just like you said. I just want you to know how much I appreciate all your videos. You saved my day. 👍 Thank you 😊 🙏

    Great Post! I started getting the codes when retracting. But this was after I had some troubles trying to level at a severe unlevel site before. All wires and fuses were okay. I was bummed until I found your posting. Went through the homing process and viola, all's well in life again. Thanks!

      Knowing how to rehome the jacks and recalibrate the zero set point is something every dealer should show the new RV owner upon purchase.
      But they probably don't know how to do it either.

    Not a wiring issue for me. Mine needed to be re-homed after using the manual leveling feature. I had a RR Error. I couldn’t do anything to move the levelers until I held down the retract and enter button for about 5 seconds, and then I followed the steps in the video. Worked like a charm. Thanks for posting.

      A low battery can cause the error too.

    Thanks for posting, RVProject! A critical nuance: Retract by pushing and holding the Retract button until all jacks fully retract (just as you said and just as your instruction sheet said). Pushing the Retract button once to light it, then holding Front and Rear to retract the jacks DOES NOT reset the system. For me, the error occurred when I picked up my fifth wheel from Camping World. Someone left something on and my batteries were totally dead. After a few minutes hooked up to the truck to recharge, I tried to extend the front just a bit to hitch up. Boom...there was the error.

    We had the exact same problem and could not get the levelers to work because of the error code, but our wiring was sound and fuses were good. So we took your advice, hooked the truck up and retracted all 4 jacks at once. It reset itself so our auto leveler worked again. Thanks for the information!

    We had numerous "LF Jack Error", "stroke error" and other....issues with our electric Lippert auto level system FROM BRAND NEW throughout our first 10 week trip across the nation and back home. It quickly became very frustrating. We bought a "new" to avoid the problems, understanding that there would be issues even with new. However we were not prepared for a 90% error rate. We went through the hard reboot and or the reset procedures pretty much every time we tried to use the system over that 10 week trip. Bottom line is this there was not enough amperage with just one 12 volt battery that came with the trailer from the dealer. The battery that was installed in the trailer was not even a deep cycle it was a standard automotive battery. I ended up buying two deep cycle batteries and wiring them in parallel to increase the amperage available to the motors but not the voltage. Once the batteries were installed we have not experienced any more errors. I believe it would behoove Lippert to REQUIRE at least two 12 volt batteries wired in parallel for any model rv using their electric auto level system. Lippert has taken A LOT of heat for these problems when I believe many, if not most of the issues are because there simply isn't enough amperage to properly run the system. Maybe Lippert is under rating their system to be able to sell it to more manufacturers...maybe the manufacturers aren't willing to foot the cost of double the batteries, I don't know.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  Před 3 lety

      I have not had an issue in my RV using Ground Control with a single 90AH deep cycle battery. I would suspect the battery the dealer gave you is not up to task. Automotive starting batteries do not last long in a deep-cycle scenario.

    This has happened to me twice The first time I took my 5th wheel back to Camping World to have it fixed which was a big mistake. They changed out the main console and a week later when I picked up the RV, still the same problem. I then called Lippart and they talked me through exactly what you did. The second time I lowered all the jacks and raised them all up and everything worked just fine. I think more people need to know how to fix this problem and not depend on those dealers that can't figure stuff out. Good video, thanks for sharing.

      As I like to say "The only thing that works on a RV is the owner".
      My opinion is that most of the dealership RV techs really don't understand the technology. There are exceptions to be sure, but I have seen and experienced too many horror stories for me to otherwise form a favorable opinion. You sure don't get much for $120/hr these days.
      I would much more trust an independence RV tech as they must perform to stay in business.

      I have this problem but my front and rear jacks go up and down. But when you say you "lowered all the jacks and raised them", how did you get your middle 2 down and back up?
      edit: I paused this video and saw that I could press the left and right buttons at the same time to get the middle jacks to lower; that works. Now I guess I just need to retract all jacks 6" to get them "homed" and I hope this fixes the problem I'm having. My issue is exactly like this video except that all my jacks still function, so I don't think I have any loose connections.

    • @TrailTrackers
      @TrailTrackers Před 6 lety +1

      Follow Up:
      After spending roughly 45 mins on the phone with LCI, the problem continued. I got to where I could clear the error easily; with no help from the LCI guy mind you. I got so frustrated I decided to just manually level the trailer and resume troubleshooting the next day.
      I saw a.video that talked about the LCI system having problems when the batteries got too low; meaning too low a voltage. I checked the voltage and indeed found it to be low. No surprise since I had spent a couple hours trying to solve the issue. With that I let it sit overnight while plugged into shore power.
      The next morning I decided to give the auto leveling a try. It leveled itself on the first attempt.

    First day out our jacks gave a full error with no amps enough
    I hooked up truck to trailer and after a couple minutes error was reset.
    I think it has to do with the batterie it doesn’t give enough amps to level all four jacks at same time so our resolve is to or instal a other batterie or stay hooked up to truck when leveling out.

    Good video. Does anyone know if it's possible to actuate the jacks electrically without the control panel? There's 12v constant which I'm connect to relays on the board, so I assume the other wires at the jack are the hall effect and trigger?

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  Před 3 lety

      There are hall-effect sensors on the jacks, which yes - that is what the other two wires are used for.
      If you wanted to electrically actuate the jacks, it would be possible, but why would you need to do so?
      Hall-effect sensors are capable of either measuring rotation or force (current flow). I am not sure which method Lippert uses to equalize the stresses on the frame, but that would be one issue you would have to tackle - how to not stress the frame by applying too much force on one jack.

    • @GovG33k
      @GovG33k Před 3 lety +1

      @@RVProject I only wanted the jacks, no controller. These systems are way overpriced. Since this post I ended up buying used jacks on eBay and welded up the mounts to the frame, replicating what Keystone offered shortly after my model year. I wired them up to my In-Command system and they work great! Granted it's not auto-leveling, but I can do it from my phone while using the LevelMate.

  • @rvscootin3457
    @rvscootin3457 Před 6 lety +1

    The issue here is that the Pin that is Crimped onto the wire has a small Tang on it that engages into the plastic housing. All that should have been needed was to Very Carefully bend on on that small tang,. This would raise it up, so that it would fully lock into the housing. To release the pin from the housing. You have to go in from the connector end and insert a tiny screw driver (yes Molex actually makes a tool for this) and press down on that Tang. Then the pin will come out.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  Před 6 lety +1

      I understand how those tangs work, and generally that is a good tip for dealing with connectors.
      However, this particular connector is a Molex "Mini-fit Sr" series connector, and they do not have a tang. Rather, the plastic connector housing has a bail that you have to break off during installation (the connector is molded in one piece so the bail doesn't get lost).
      And then, after inserting the pins, that bail then snaps back onto the housing to another location on the housing, which has plastic tabs that holds the connector pins captive.
      For some reason, the bail was not holding the pin captive.

    • @RVProject

      You just gave me an idea for another video - how to remove connector pins...

      You mean like the back side of the controller? I have not made such a component.
      I use FreeCAD to make my STL files. It is free and open source, but It is a bit goofy - which is pretty common for open source. There are a lot of tutorials on CZcams too.
      Another possibility is Fusion 360. It is normally a paid software but you used to be able to use it free if you did it for non-commercial uses. Not sure if that is still true or not, but I have found there is a bit more of a learning curve. But it is more stable than FreeCad.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  Před 5 lety +1

      When in the Jack Error mode, you have to reset it before you can return to normal operation.
      To recover from the error, the panel must be reset. This is done by lowering and raising all of the jacks at least 6". Lippert calls this a re-home procedure.
      The easiest way to do this is hitch the RV to your tow vehicle;
      Keep the tow vehicle's engine running and connected to the RV; or ensure the battery is fully charged. One common way to get this error is with a low battery.
      By hitching the RV to the tow vehicle, you ensure you obtain 6" of travel in the jacks. Any less travel and the system may not reset.
      Run the jacks down until they are at least 6" from the top.
      Press FRONT to lower the front jacks.
      Press REAR to lower the rear jacks.
      Press LEFT and RIGHT simultaneously to lower the center jacks.
      Then press ENTER to auto retract all 6 jacks. That lets the system know where the end-points of each jack are, and the error should clear.
      If the error does not clear, or if all of the jacks do not lower and raise, you may have a wiring error.
