Sounds like Sour Grapes to me. In my opinion the majority of these other Musicians are so completely self-absorbed and are complete legends in their own minds. They were just jealous of the huge success of The Mighty Zeppelin. The fans understood them and appreciated the variety of musical styles that they incorporated into their repertoire. And they performed to massive audiences and changed the way that bands were compensated for their concerts. before them the bands received a cut of the gate, and the promoters made the higher profits. Their music sounds as fresh and vibrant to this day as it did when it was first recorded. Criticizing them calling them boring and sloppy and immature. That is about as a moronic of a comment. that you can say about this band.

I don't think PF or Roger Waters have any real reason to be jealous, vindictative, or nasty in their musical aspirations towards Zeppelin, simply because both bands' musical styles, image, lyrical and album themes were so radically different from one another. In terms of actual accomplished musicianship, Zeppelin wins over PF, big time, Waters is no musical genius, or savant and I think the fact that Page, Bonham, and JPJ's skills on-stage, and in-studio blow him in the Thames every time. David Gilmour, FWIW, is the closest thing to being a natural, pure musician in PF. PF, however does beat Zep's brains in when it comes to depth, talent, focus and intelligence in terms of song-writing. Pink Floyd released 3 legendary albums in the 1970's based around strong lyrical themes and concepts, thats their super-power.
Musically, on-stage, PF are likely a better, free-form psychedelic band in that they could play, and improvise odd, peculiar time signatures with songs in a way that Zeppelin wouldn't do.
Crosby and Joni Mitchell's views strike me as two, old embittered hippies whose mindsets and tastes never really evolved and I don't think they or their generation ever understood the rise of hard rock, heavy metal bands from the late 60's onwards. Gene Simmons once said that rock and roll, for the longest time was long and boring, and when he and his brother would travel to S.F. and see a lot of underground, S.F. hippy bands like the Dead, Airplane, and Quicksilver, they would often literally turn their backs to the audiences while jamming on-stage, Gene sort of found that insulting as it was wasting his time.
Zeppelin was a band that represented a philosophy in rock music that was moving away from that. Not just them, but also Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple.

In terms of "freaky", free-form, long, psychedelic jams interposed with weird, odd improvisations, peculiar time signatures in "Interstellar Overdrive", " Reaction in G", "Astronomy Domine", I don't know if Zeppelin could match some of the insanity, chaotic musical nature of some of PF's early live recordings at London's underground " UFO" club where sometimes you didnt know what kind of songs, instrumentals, or music Floyd would put out in their early days with Syd from late 66-early 68. "Careful with that Axe, Eugene" in a way, is sort of PF's "Dazed and Confused".
Also, taking into consideration, Pink Floyd had 4 albums in the 1970's and early 80's that in some areas, outsold Zeppelin, I don't think Waters' comments come necessarily from a place of jealousy. Waters has always been and still is a very outspoken, opinionated musician (he's a life-long socialist who's political views are more left-wing than most Democrats) and lately, some of these views have gotten him into trouble or he's been labeled an anti-semite. He's difficult, arrogant, very brazen personality, some people upon meeting him might feel tempted to punch him in the face and more then likely Robert P!ant and Jimmy Page are a lot nicer people to meet, Ive been told some stories about how generous, approachable, and friendly Plant is. Page and P!ant know their musical legacies are secure, they make music now because they like it and its in their collective blood, it's fun and enjoyable and if one isn't having fun or enjoying themselves making or composing music, then there in the wrong industry.
