Did I get a deal on this collection of old paper money? Or did I just throw good money after bad?

  • In this video we're going to look at a stack of OLD CANADIAN PAPER MONEY I got the chance to pick up. I paid 2x face value for the bills. That migh make it a bargain for some bills, but maybe not for others. Some old currency is only worth face value - it all depends on condition, of course, Let's have a look together and see if I got a great deal, or if I overpaid!

    My favorite series of notes were the 1937 series notes. However my favorite note ever if I had to pick only one is the $50 Scenes of Canada with the RCMP Musical Ride on the back. I saw that show when I was a little kid and its a memory permanently engraved in my mind. It brings me back to my childhood instantly when I see it. This was such a good pickup of notes. Lots of history in all the notes and lots of things many people will overlook.

    My favorite note is the $50 bill from the 1954 series. For Canada I collect the 1 and 5 cent coins. I've been able to find several semi-key and key dates. My best Canadian is the 1875-H Small Date 5 cent silver in VF-EF I picked up a few years ago. But there are finds to be had. Once I picked up a lot of junk silver. In it was the 1875-H Large Date 5 cent silver, but it's been holed.

    • @CADRollHunter

      That $50 is one I don't have. As for finding a nice older coin in junk silver - that's pretty awesome. (I might have a few similar finds in an upcoming video!).

    This video got me thinking about the history of the 1 and 2$ denominations in banknotes. Did they completely leave circulation or do they pop up now and then? How common/uncommon were dollar coins before the loonie? When did the switch in popularity between coins and banknotes occur?

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter  Před měsícem

      Retailers won't accept the $1 and $2 bills anymore, so they left circulation pretty quickly after their coin counterparts were introduced, even though many are still legal tender. The $1 and $2 coins were pretty much embraced right away without any significant push-back. Before the loonie, however, the older nickel dollars didn't really circulate. It would have been an odd sight.

    I think you did well with purchase. Value is there and more for sure. As a currency searcher one feels lucky enough to simply inspect each old bill one comes across. Congrats. Yesterday, I bought a 1954 $1 and determined it does not have the devil's face feature. It's a 1954 BABN (JRB, LR) T/M prefix. This is my first Canadian $1 bank note in my collection. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
