I just did my first flight with the Avata and the motion controller -- very cool! A completely different experience from the standard controllers.
Thank you, hope dji fix this in a firmware update so we can dive and have fun with the motion controlleren.
Agree! Would be awesome if we could dive deep🤭 or at least 50-60 degrees without seeing the “miss placement” of camera/guard😅
Agree, I used the motion controller today for the first time and I actually really liked it. Its easy and intuitive. DJI wants to gain more market and I believe it will with the motion controller as newcomers will feel more confident flying with the motion controller to start.
Footage is crazy good quality regardless.. Dare I foolishly say it looks like a video game (in a good way).

The majority of the criticism I've found online about this drone is that it is for beginners.
I agree.
But so was the DJI FPV, which I previously owned. I never thought of flying it manually, simply because I recognized the complexity of flying acro and the realization that, if I crashed it, it would be expensive and time consuming to repair for my skill level.
Now, we have a drone style that it is more crash resistant than the previous iteration, albeit, not as fast but with some advancements that make it more appealing for beginners in the FPV realm.
Me included, it’s fun with the motion controller. Eventually, I will want to get to the other controller though.

The DJI RC can't connect to the simulators?
If you don't know what to do with your motion controller, save it for your non-flying friends who want to try your drone. That way they can enjoy the experience of flying with the goggles and you don't have to risk them crashing your drone.

Yeah the controller thing is a big bummer
Shows what proper Fpv is compared to the DJI entry stuff, it’s all about manual mode, it’s great that the motion controller can do what it does tbh, but it’s always going to be limited compared to a set of sticks on a controller and full acro mode. Tbf tho, the avata is a cinewhoop and isn’t for diving or crazing flips and flops, it’s for those cinematic shots and keeping the horizon level.
i think acro mode on the motion controller could be fun lol maybe in a update lol I don't care about the dji fpv controller i got my fast drones for acro that are easy to repair on crashes. Looks like a fun drone to have my kids fly when im out flying and a good drone to fly around new spots i want to fly at to find gaps i want to hit. i dont look at dji drones as a fun drone to fly i look at them more like tools they have there place in the market.

No. It’s a setting you can configure.
Did you turn on the head tracking feature?
Yes. Also turned it off quickly. My opinion, it’s only a selling point tbh. I’m sure some people will enjoy it, butni just don’t see the point.
I literally bought the Avata recently.. never been interested in FPV etc.. The inclusion on the motion controller seems to be a decent gateway. If you have the money to buy the bundle with the motion, after you like or love it... you will buy the proper controller. That being said .. i fired it up and flew around my house easily with the motion.
Rob, ***Big issue*** the motion controller may not charge with the battery pack per the manual, LIKE MINE. The only workaround, you’ll need to find an old Apple charging block (the small one) and a USB-A to USB-C cable only to charge it. Nothing else will work, trust me I know. This is a known issue. I spent hours trying to get mine to charge and almost sent it back per the warranty.

I think what we have here is a guy with thousands of hours on real fpv drones and not a guy who is moving from a DJI phantom 4 pro to fpv . From what I see of the avata and motion controller it will be a blast after having only flying DJI camera drones.
The biggest Achilles heel of those goggles is the lack of defogging fans.

A lot of the motion controller shots look like you could almost get them with the fpv mode(disabled sideways flight) on an air 2s/m3/m3p, its just not made for that dramatic fpv flight.

@@RobHK Definitely for somebody just starting out this would be the first drone I would mention for FPV because you can step it up with the new FPV controller after you get the hang of the motion controller and the brake will save people for sure. I really like that they gave the motion controllers out with the package because it handles some aspects of flight for you and I think that will make it easier to get into. Love the channel man, keep the videos coming!

@@RobHK It depends on how you look at it, I think from the beginner view point I want to practice as much as I can before jumping to the advanced controller and if the price point and having to buy a second controller slows that down and gives me more time to learn with the motion controller it might be a benefit; and really to DJI less crashed and replaced drone from pilots just learning to fly the better.
I mean. They offer a combo with the MC, so should they with the RC2.
Using the RC2 over the MC has no effect on the beginner experience. The RC2 comes locked to N and S mode and you need to loosen the throttle to be able to fly manual.
At the end i think DJI is more proud of their MC invention than its actual real world use.
Nevertheless, 2 combos or 4. With the new and old goggles as well as RC2 and the others with the MC 😅🤷♂️
Or include both and raise the price with $79-99. People buy it anyway
We need an effective digital system in addition to the dji. Fpv pilots will always suffer if they are the only alternative.
It has it's purpose!!!! especially if you have only one hand!!! please understand what this for the first time enables those of us who require a one stick controller, other than that I Love your site.

I think DJI bundled the drone with the motion controller because most of the people who will buy this drone do not know or want to fly in manual mode. This is marketed more as a toy, while the FPV Drone was marketed more towards professionals. Also, regarding DJI Care Refresh, they will get waaaay less returns and complaints because of crashes with this controller. If everyone got a manual controller, most people would crash instantly in manual mode - again, because it's not marketed as a professional drone. You can hand the motion controller to a kid and they will be able to fly the drone in seconds. I also think it's much more fun for the average user and less technical, complicated and scary.
Fpv controller doesn’t mean manual mode!
Its comes set for normal and sport only. You need to loosen the throttle before manual is actually possible to fly. Which means the fpv controller is targeted towards beginners with a manual option!
@@RobHK That is fair enough. I still think it was very intentional by DJI. Not once in the trailer did they mention manual mode and it's barely mentioned on the webpage. I feel like manual mode is something they are "trying to hide", but it's still there for the pros. Having the FPV controller would encourage and market this as a manual drone with the option to fly safe and not the other way around.
I feel the same, but they need to realize the fpv market, they didn’t with this tbh. Fpv controller included would potentially double the sale🤷♂️

I’ve had mine for only 24 hours and the novelty of the motion controller has worn off after maybe 40 minutes of flying. I’m getting much better shots with my old Mavic Pro. Any action shots I’m using the Skydio 2 with the transponder. Maybe if the FPV controller was available I’d have a different opinion but right not I’m not impressed at all. Most likely going back to DJI.
That noise really is the main reason not to buy it. Hope there will be some prop upgrades even at the cost of less flighttime

The sound of the drone itself is so annoying. That alone is enough for me to avoid this release.
Full stop with that controller, get you some sticks you would fly so much better.
