Thank you so much!! ❤️
Starting my loc journey on my birthday which is this upcoming Monday! 😁 Binge watching your videos. They’ve been so helpful 🙌🏾
Happy late birthday 💕
Happy belated birthday 🎉🎂 mine was the 2nd 😁
🎂😁
@@ladyram5290 🎂😁
Me too girl!
I am the hair dresser of my home and I've decided to commit to the loc journey for all of our heads due to our lifestyle, beliefs and time ofc! Ive done my research on cost and cannot afford a loctician right now so videos like these are very helpful. Thank you so much for you wisdom and knowledge !! Much love and appreciation! God bless you sister!
How’d it go?
Starting my locs, the girl I'm probably going to go to is both a loctican & stylist. She has locs and is very experienced so I trust her to do it correctly. I haven't really seen a style that wasn't doable with diamond parts. Sooooo diamond parts, 90-120 locs, comb curls, smedium parts maybe? That's my goal 😁.
Love your videos! Getting my locs next week and I’ve been loving this crash course! 😂So excited for this new journey!
Love that your videos are straight to the point and very informative. Thank you and many blessings to you!🙏❤️
Thank you so much for watching and engaging! 💓 Glad they help
I'm 3 years and 6 months on my loc journey and mine were started with coils but my hair is so soft I inner locd it. Only thing I can say I could use more moisture now that's its longer and at my shoulders. My 10 year old wants me to start his and I want to do him right from the start so your videos have really helped
Starting my second set of locs, so glad I found you! This was very Informative and presented well.
Overloading on your videos as I prepare for my starter locs!! 💕🌱
Same!!
Love your content! Very informative and clear 🙌🏿 Please do the sizing video!!
The Virgo in me is commitment phobic to restarting because of my pale scalp and various hair textures around the sides and back just as you said. Your honesty is refreshing and clarifying.
Pale scalp? Then give your scalp more sun exposure? Idk, sounds like you're overthinking it (which isn't due to some stars in the sky). You might just need to determine whether you really want locs or should instead go with temporary styling such as twists or faux locs. Trying a temp style out first can help you determine.
Medically retired for over 10yrs and it could be meds. Started a set and it was nice, but I am very particular and do believe it's the stars for me. Thanks for the tips too, I will try again.
Just started my 2nd set of locs last week. Did my own diamond parts with 2 mirrors and all my shoulder muscle strenf. Took my time and they turned out great! (Definitely some triangles around the edges and middle) Going semi free form, so I look forward to see how they move once they loc and grow
Haha I did the same. It definitely took a lot of shoulder strength lol.
Woman! You’re goated! Them grids gave me a headache just to look at em! Great job 👌🏽🥳
Thank you so much I’ve been on the fence of wanting to log mines and have been trying to figure out hat parts would help voluminous my hair based on how think I believe it is. So this video is perfect ❤❤thank you
was very subconscious about my natural parting in the front but seeing the pics of others with it was helpful.
Starting my second set of locs an ur video really help me when I was deciding what an how to put my hair the first time I didn't think an my hair did look beautiful an thick it still wasn't what I wanted but now I did brick pathing an put more locs an I'm loving them already
Me too
I'm starting my locs. Your videos are so helpful.
I’m so happy to hear that! Thanks for watching ❤️
Soooo happy i found your page ! Thank you for all info given, can we get a video on bleaching locs and care for them ?
Yes! I’ll add that to the list
I LOVE ❤️ the practical knowledge you give with our explanations! After having had 5 sets of locs in the past (I'm loose narural now, but not by choice 😪), & all the frustration that came with each set & dealing mostly with stylists who didn't know their 💩, I can NOW pretty much tell right off when a stylist DOES know their craft. I justvwish I had known about the different parting systems when I did have locs. The only 1 I knew if was the brick format. Well, that & the freeform method. And although the idea of not having to be anal about maintaining my parts appealed to me, the idea that some of my locs could be the size of a tree trunk, & others could be thinner than a spaghetti 🍝 noodle at random places on my head was a greater turn-off than the sporadic maintenance aspect of that style was appealing.
I wish you were in ATL as that's where I'm moving in less than a month. It seems that the locticisns I vibe with are always someplace far away from where I'm currently at. Do you have any loctician friends in ATL that have the same philosophies pertaining to their styling methods & similar level of knowledge as you that you could refer me to?
I’m in ATL and have been searching high and low. It’s hard to find good locticians. I found a lady that gets high reviews called locmama but I’m worried her locs may be too tight due to some pics. Let me know if u find anyone please
@@citizencoy4393 I didn't end up moving to ATL after all. But if the person's locs look too tight , I would definitely pass.
I love allll of your videos! So informative!
This is like the 3rd vid I’ve watched from you! & i just had to subscribe!! I am getting my locs in 18 days!! And I honestly cant wait since its been since last yr November I’ve been showing interest in locss 🖤!
great advice! extremely informative, thank you so much!!🥰❤️
My pleasure! Thanks for watching ✨
You're so pretty! Thank you for that this video was very helpful.
This was so helpful! Thank you!!
Thanks 😊 for the info because I’m trying to decide to start locks and you are very knowledgeable!! 👍🏾 Where is your salon?
thank you for this. i have brick parting cuz it’s simple and easy. my cousin want me to start his locs so i’m thinking about brick parting for him too.
Did it grow out beautiful? I’m 4c but my hair isn’t really dense neither is it fine… I just started and it’s two strand twist, hopefully I can keep in for a while cos my hair is really short and I love the twist lol.
Just found your channel tonight and love it - going through all your videos now! You said the first three are better for a fuller look. I have been told by every stylist every that I have extremely dense and a full head of hair (God must've put about a billion strands on my head haha!). Is there a particular parting that would be better for me since my hair already appears so full all the time (even when I just do temporary two-strand twists on my natural hair)? Thank you!
It really comes down to preference really, if your hair is super dense, you can do pretty much anything! Thanks so much for watching 💚🫶🏾
Ma’am! This video is so informative. Thank you!
So glad you think so!! Thanks for watching
Thank you for these explanations! This helps a lot! I absolutely LOVE the diamond parts. But I’m noticing that I also like the C-shaped parting style. It’s unfortunate that you don’t do diamond parts (I totally understand why lol). Can you send the contact for the one you know that does diamond parts?
This was useful, thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 💓
really love your videos, wish I found them quicker
So informative 💕
Glad it helped!
Thank you from the video. Question, if you have full thick hair with a few different textures which parting would you suggest? So many loctitions mention what's good for people with fine hair that want it to look thick and full but not what's best for hair that's already thick and full . I'm starting my loc journey next month and I have thick thick hair and I want it to be full but not to scalpy as well as lay nicely.
See this is me. What did you end up going with love?
Can you do a video on loc ends I like the loose curly ends and I currently have the blunt ends what should I do.
Yes C is really growing on me
I love c shape parting
Excelelnt info thanks helped me out allot !
Dopest video ever!
Thank you so much. This really helped.
You're welcome! 💞
Look at God. I’m here watching all your videos so I can decide how to start my locs and you’re in my area 😄.
Very informative, thank you
Hello Ms. Courtney ,
Your video helped me a lot with deciding on which grid is best.
I'm interested in locs..no I do not want to do my hair
Are you taking new clients?
Hey I have a question first how are you? And do you do starter locs on all hair textures as long as the hair is curly?
I am 2 weeks in my startee locs!! I love the process
Love that for you!! Welcome to the loc’d team ☺️
@@CourtneyGrayton appreciate the love
VERY HELPFUL
Can you change your loc parts after they are loced??
New here. I've started my three strands locs. I'm thinking about trying the instant locs🤔. My hair is so soft it won't stay twisted.
You definitely should do instant locs
Hello sis, I wished I would have ran across your channel before I cut my locs off, I was loc’d four years and I just cut them on on 12/1 because they were damaged and breaking really bad from the color that I gotten and I didn’t have anyone to tell how I could save them
I started my own locs and did c parting. Mainly because my ass can’t part. However I noticed that my hair looks full. People seem to think that I have more locs than I actually have.
I'm going to start mines and I think I will go with c shaped as well
I have box sections on my hight top locs ….in the future with my new growth could I get triangle or diamond parts??
So how do I help my clients that have thinning hair I see this more with my older clients especially if they're taking like medicines and things for like certain conditions or is that something that I should direct them to a dermatologist for. Because I am pursuing my esthetician license but I'm not sure how to help them and I don't wanna stir them wrong
I'm in Maryland and I'm looking for a knowledgeable loctician to start and maintain my locs. Where are you based out of?! I'm willing to travel at least one state over if needed. Love your content :)
Great video!!
Thanks!
i have a question, do you personally help people start locks, and if you do where are you?
I’ve had two sets of lox and never focused on parts. Now I’m doing my son’s hair and researching parting🤦🏽♀️
Hi i want to know how much do you charge to start locs? I will travel to you from nyc..
Im interested in c-shape method
I’m starting my loc journey myself, next month. I’m very excited. I like the “informal” parting idea. I do have a question. I have a somewhat sensitive scalp (which is why I make my own oils, butters and flaxseed gel.) do you have any recommendations for what NOT to do with a sensitive scalp/skin?? I got loc gel (natural ingredients) and I use a diluted leave-in, mixed with aloe and rose water, sealed with my oil (very light). Is that doing too much?? I’m a low porosity mixed type 4.
Hi! How’d the installation go? ☺️ And what you described seems like a good line of products to use!
Great video! Would you say the brick pattern is easier maintained on your own vs C parting?
No c-parting is easier!
Where’d you taking the parting class??
Can you do barrel twists with c shaped parts
I love c shaped parts but I noticed once you get the the top of the head there are a few that are very oddly shaped. Is there any way to ensure all of the locs are c shaped?
Not really.. wherever the part is, middle or side, there will be at least one that’s not.
@@CourtneyGrayton thought soo. Thank you so much for replying boo
When I get my hair done for two strand twist, I feel like it shows my head to much and not full. I have a lot of hair but when it’s done the twists look mad small. I usually ask for thicker two strands but they come out real thick.
Love the video
Does Brock oart come in your face like does the dreads come in your face
c shape da way to go
My personal favorite!
My question is how can I change the parting shape cause it's a c shape and I would like to change it to a square parting please help 😢
Is there anything wrong with having different sized locs? I made some of my locs smaller and the rest medium, My hair is super thick and very dark so you can't really tell too much when my hair is down but I havent seen anyone else talk about having locs that are different sizes and its starting to make me question if its okay or not. My locs are still in the starting stage so I dont really want to make any changes to them until they have locked up enough/matured.
I was gonna ask that because some of my locs aren’t the same . But then I think there are NO rules with YOUR hair do whatever you like .! If you don’t like it you can change it or start over . It’s all a journey it’s just hair . Good luck !!
I started my last set without parts. She just grabbed similar size sections of hair and coiled it. I want to start a second set the same way. I HATE parts. Do you just grab a section and coil too if that’s what the client prefers?
Yes! It’s a little harder to do since I’m use to creating parts lol but I have done it before!
@@CourtneyGrayton okay good to know 😀
I am personally very particular about my parts and my locs
I started 2 weeks ago diamond parting interloc with instaloc. Can I just mix oils with rose water and spray.
I recommend keeping them separate, but mixing works for some people!
i want to get locs, but i dont know where to start. i want neat locs and i want to have a lot of them aswell
Thank you
I have lots but they are so Fri zz. What's best product for my hair
I started my locks again 6 months ago, and they're larger, but I believe she did the grid.I'm just wondering why she did the grid because they're larger. What do you think?
Not sure! I wouldn’t but I’ve seen it done. Is that what you asked her for?
I wish you would’ve added some examples of the seat parting styles that you’ve done :(
🔥
I personally prefer my scalp to show so I went with a grid pattern
Thanks!
No problem!
Should interlocs be palm rolled?
Have you seen clients doing no grid at all for microlocs. I would think it makes reties more difficult but could it be detrimental for hair health to not have a grid?
Yes! I have a picture of microlocs with no grid on my hair page @/hairgoalswithcg on IG. It’s actually not a problem. If I got microlocs, I wouldn’t get a grid
@@CourtneyGrayton i saw that! Any retie advice since the parting was random?
Where is the shop?
I wish you worked in NC
I have a normal size on my locs wit the grid pattern
Can you part your hair down the middle for styling with the brick pattern? What parting method is best for optimum styling? Im sorry if you answered this already.
yes you can
How do c-shaped parts look in styles? Like if I were to get cornrows on my locs would they look wonky?
Not in my opinion! You can check my hair page @hairgoalswithcg for examples
Not at all I have c shaped parting and love the way my hair falls. I've styled twice with my loctician and the styles came out great.
@@rwilliams1080 thanks! I’m definitely leaning more toward c-shaped 😃
It’s been a year. Have you changed your mind about doing the diamond parts? Lol I am really low density in the front and would like volume and want to book with you!
I still prefer c-shaped over diamond! I'm sorry
If I want to achieve a full look and I have thick dense hair what would be the best choice for parts
If you have thick, dense hair it'll likely look full no matter what you do. I have very thick and high density hair, I wanted to control volume a bit so I didn't go too much over 400 microlocs, and I did a grid.
hi Courtney are Triangle parts the same as Diamond parts?
I want to know which style will fit me best.
Try out a few before committing
Can the c parts be done with 2 strand twists? I’ve only seen coils
Yes, check out my social media pages for lots of examples
Can twist loc up
Are you re upping on your oils on your web?
Yes! Make sure you’re signed up for our newsletter
Is there a way to control how many locs go into your head?
Absolutely! You can pre-section them if you’d like a specific number
This all sound so complicated! 😭
People keep saying locs are low maintenance, but every time I try to learn about them it seems like so much work. I'm tired of having to do my hair, and was hoping locs would be the solution.
It depends on if you get sister or micro locs vs traditional locs. Sister locs are high maintenance and so are micro locs. They require no products especially at the beginning and you are required to braid and band to ensure the locs are not fusing. This and the time to start and retie the locs are why I won't do those but I had traditional locs and I just want them a bit smaller.
Every single style you ever get will require some form of upkeep and care. There are ways to streamline your routine so that it isn’t time-consuming but you will have to do something! Going to a professional regularly will also take some of the responsibility off of you.
I’m gonna do it 2024
Yes! Excited for you!
I got a Afro at a decent size but I want it a little bigger before I loc it
I keep redoing my locs over because I’m not satisfied with the parts smh
This video would make so much more sense with pictures
Understood! Check out the thumbnail of the video for examples of each
