It is impossible for me to name my favourite Clint Eastwood. Movie he's made so many he has to be the movie world giant I've been a. Fan for at least 50 years
Thank you so much for uploading this! Where did you find it? I'm amazed. It was so true when the man says: «You can bet on one thing: he is gonna be around making films for a long time to come». Clint is 91 and still killing it!
Amazing western ....the best actor and deriction you clint eastwood ......one of my favorit actor in all the times.... the vengeance...Sometimes we find revenge from last terrible silence kills enemies ... Wounded anguine that pain from the wound before death ..great job clint ...my respect
That's great! Never saw it before. THANKS SO MUCH !!! I know a company that could restore the colors - they took care of some of my 60's 35mm western trailers for DVD release and worked wonders! A W E S O M E !!
Sez' the man in 1973 «...be sure of one thing, he's gonna be around for a long time, making films» - sure he didn't figure on another 37-and-counting? thnx a million for posting this!
Thanks, fascinating stuff. You can see in the film the vulnerability that the Stranger has - tormented as he is by nightmarish visions of being whipped to death - which is completely different from his character in the Leone films in which nothing ever troubled him. I've never been convinced by people claiming HPD was Eastwood under the influence of Leone. I think it's very much Eastwood under the influence of Eastwood. The female charactesr too - even if one of them does get raped - are far more forceful than any in a Leone movie.
To all the detractors of the narrator. He did it just the way most narrations were done in the 60s and 70s. The style has changed since then. To the better? I'm not sure.
Just above Mono Lake is the ghost town of Bodie. It's where a lot of these scenes were shot. It's really an incredible place. And no, it wasn't really painted red😂
Interesting clip there of a guy fighting an invisible force. I wonder whether this spelled out the idea of the film a little too much. I love the vaguery of this film; is he a ghost etc?
james marshall Still, that isn't the same as living it. John Wayne's characterizations in the movies aren't exactly realistic themselves. I'd say Eastwood's version are closer to reality .
james marshall For some of his movies. Some were bad, but this particular movie is one of those things you can only do once. Even with it's flaws, it's something you can't stop watching. The most brutal western ever made.
Evelyn Draper, and Alex Forest. Charming, engaging. Until they're after you with butcher knife with your back to them. Play Misty for Me, a movie Clint did in the 70's about a wacko-chick. Alex probably a lot more of you guy's know; Fatal Attraction. Women are scarier crazy's than dudes. Watch that one, it's as good or better as Fatal, I think.
Who cares if John Wayne didn't like this film. Maybe he wouldn't like pale rider either, that was basically the same story line as Shane. A lot of the cookie cutter westerns we're usually well written and the acting was better than what we see today. It really becomes what the story was all about and this movie causes one to think about what was and what is. John Wayne probably wouldn't like the outlaw Josey Wales either and that was a great film.
It would have been nice to have seen how other scenes were made: The dynamite scene where Morgan is killed by Stacey; the whipping scene at the end; interviews with some of the actors/actresses. One of my favorite movies but inmo doesn't top Heartbreak Ridge.
I cannot bring myself to like this film because of what Clint’s character did in this film , it’s just disgusting and he should’ve been took out for it
It's almost 2019 and he is still going strong 46 years after High Plains Drifter!
2021 here..watching from India with love
2023 and he's still going strong !
@@KingKenny.
Sorry to say not so strong anymore
High Plains Drifter is my absolute favorite Clint Eastwood western.
Good, Bad + Ugly + Josey Wales are mine but this film IS the man with no name and it is up there with his classics
Mine is Unforgiven. Then Outlaw Josey Wales, the Dollars Trilogy, and this of course.
The Outlaw Josey Wales, Heartbreak Ridge, and Pale Rider are the best.
I can't think of a bad Clint Eastwood movie. I would have to agree that High Plains Drifter is one of my favorites, if not THE favorite of mine.
He knows what audiences want 👏
Probably one of my favourite films. Clint Eastwood certainly is a legend.
The best beyond the grave revenge western, or only ever made...Thanks Mr. Eastwood.👊😎
Pale rider 🐎

Clint Eastwood is an Masterful Filmmaker.
Great Director and still going almost 44 years later
I read where Clint always made his movies both on time and within (or in some instances, below) budget.

I dearly miss those days. A quieter world, easier times, and westerns at the drive in movie theater..........
@Robert Hamilton: Did you REALLY watch the movies at the drive in?
2027850
Yeah. I'm old.
I can't remember any of the movies I was SUPPOSED to be watching, LOL.
Wish I could have been there, glad to have been a kid in the 90s tho rather than the mess kids these days have for a world
Filmed on the shores of mono lake california.. I was just down there exploring the area. Great landscape and backdrop for this gritty old western!
Peter Graves does a good job of narration.
It's not Peter Graves, it's Haven Earle Haley. Says it at 6:41. Great movie.
Amazing western ....the best actor and deriction you clint eastwood ......one of my favorit actor in all the times.... the vengeance...Sometimes we find revenge from last terrible silence kills enemies ... Wounded anguine that pain from the wound before death ..great job clint ...my respect
One of my favorite movies ever...
Amazing ... I just got done watching HPD and just happened to stumble across this
One of his best in a long list of bests
Such a legendary character. Clint Eastwood is an enduring cultural icon of masculinity.

Amazing vintage doc, wow
great movie, clint at his very best
"The whole crew wants this film to be great". And it is.
This really looks like what inspired Quentin Tarantino in the black and white Bounty Law sequences of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
nice little documentary. it's interesting to see what his reputatuion was 40 years ago
he is the best

And the movie was Great
Bad ass film...

on itv 4 again good BTS looks easy.
Why is everyone so hard on the narrator sucking up to Clint?
I highly doubt he wrote his own script, he was just reading it.
No. He was a hero in a time we needed heros
So they had the panavision film camera during the 1970s
😍♥️
I've been to Mono lake and it's out in the middle of nowhere. Must have been a tough shoot.
Just above Mono Lake is the ghost town of Bodie. It's where a lot of these scenes were shot. It's really an incredible place.

Yes. He certainly is a ghost.
You still here...
"Joey, you like movies about Gladiators?"
That's some amazingly cheesy narration. 'Gee whiz, go get 'em Billy!'
john wayne wrote Clint a letter (( that isnt the way the west was settled))
as if J ohn Wayne would know.
TheProfessor Fate the history was not that far in the past, cowboy days were around 1866 - 88. wayne was born around 1910

Come on now. Is this documentary real?
"Loved all different things"
*shows him holding a dead fish*
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Loved the movie, except there should have been more character developments, and a more in depth plot point.
Ridiculous
Black and white? It's the 1970s...

I heard it was HELL making this film. Afterwards they painted the town RED.
No. They painted their set Red
I cannot bring myself to like this film because of what Clint’s character did in this film , it’s just disgusting and he should’ve been took out for it
😂😂 oh boo-hoo... poor baby 😂😂😂
Except....his name ISNT really Eastwood.
His name IS Eastwood... At 0:59 in this video you can see him in what looks like his high school year book photo, with his name next to it.
Because maybe you didnt go back for "more"!
Disgusting scene and don’t know why He allowed Himself to do such a thing in a film . For Me that scene took away any love I had for the film
