- Before the Westworld community starts diving into Season Three, I think it's only fair to look back and get a clearer picture of the story so far! Westworld has an interesting way of story-telling, and I think some of the incredibly beautiful parts of this story are often overlooked. This is my attempt to condense the entire first two season into one video for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy, The Westworld timeline, chronologically!

I believe the real significance to the first encounter between William and Dolores is that William gets to personally see a host, far outside her loop, starting to gain consciousness. Since William didn't really understand what he was witnessing, when Dolores was killed, her memories were wiped, and put back into her loop, William concluded it was all a trick to make the park seem more real, which started his 30 year journey to find that realism again.
This is spot on imo
Oh man, that’s deep. I didn’t realize that, but yeah. The only other time he got a glimpse of that realism is decades later when he saw Maeve come to life after he shot her and her daughter.

I am always amazed of Michael Crichton's ingenious stories. I just found an Audiobook of Andromeda Strain here on CZcams and it was one of the most informative sci-fi stories I have ever heard, it has 10 times more information than the movie.

U know when u space out for a few minutes in class and then feel lost and scramble to copy down what was written on the board in ur notebook before the professor erases it and moves on to the next session but u still have no clue what u r writing down? Well this show brings back those nostalgic feelings over and over again.
OMFG, I watched it like 3 times so far and I still can't unpack everything. This is probably the best recap of any series ever made. I sincerely thank you for all your time and efforts. You're brilliant and I hope you get the success you deserve.

The story is so much more complex than realised even tho I've watched all current episodes. I would never have put all of this together....
I have never been as perplexed/intrigued by any other show in my life! Every layer of storyline is as rich and deeply complex as the last. I'm sure I've missed something along the way and your video just confirms it, lol

I just rematches this after two years and a few episodes in to season four - I totally forgot that when Bernard goes into the cradle to talk with Ford, he comes out as ‘ Fernard’. OMG, this is hands down the BEST SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS OF WESTWORLD - AND FAF TO BOOT.

Once the show “Lost” was complete, a fan project did that exactly. Unfortunately, copyright takedowns, lawsuits against people using torrents to share the massive files, and other similar shenanigans mostly negated the thousands of hours that the fans put into recutting the show. I can certainly see AT&T doing the same thing.

This is by far one of the most comprehensive, well mapped out chronological timelines of seasons 1 and 2. Thank you!
One thing that still puzzles me is why Ford made Clementine kill Bernard. Bernard is a host, built in the image of his best friend Arnold. If Ford intended to set all the hosts free, allow them free will to choose their own paths, then killing Bernard went against that very objective. If he didn’t want Bernard to get in his way, he could have easily freeze him right then. And in the aftermath, Bernard would have to choose his path. Killing him was just too drastic a move.

Thanks so much for this, I sort of realized my opinion of the 2nd season had fallen so low, because I watched it in parallel with Preston Jacobs's analysis. I started watching season 3 without seeing the reviews, to try and escape the popular bias of it being shit, and it turned out I actually still love Westworld. And especially after watching this amazing analysis, I definitely back in the park.

Ive been waiting to start season 3 so i can binge a good part of it, so this morning I started on episode 1 but wasn't able to watch it today. I just so happen to see your video thumbnail in my recommends and just finished it. I knew going into episode 3 i was a bit hazy about what was going on and wasn't 100% on the story line, but I feel like your breakdown was the PERFECT add-on right before I catch up. I understand exactly what is going on right now and I realize I didn't really pay attention too well. lol

Btw I suppose this is something we're way past narrative-wise, but a bit I've rarely heard discussed. I've always felt, since pretty much my first viewing of it, that the entire point of the conversation Ford has with "Old Bill" in the opening of 1x05 was giving us the audience the "answer", if you will, of the William season 1 storyline. There was the other scene of Lawrence's daughter trying to warn William directly and overtly that the maze wasn't meant for him, but the Old Bill scene drives it home for us. In this story of Ford's dog when he was a boy running after and killing the cat when he was let off his leash. That here was this goal of sorts (the cat being equivalent to the felt rabbit to this racing dog), the chasing after which had basically come to define the dog's existence, but once he caught and killed it, he was left lost and confused. He didn't know what he was supposed to do now that he'd finally reached this point he'd mistakenly thought was going to be so meaningful for him.
I'd always found this very interesting, that it was the writers' way of slyly confirming for us that early on in the story that Ford wasn't just trying to fuck with William that the maze concept wasn't about him (or ANY guest, for that matter), that he was flat out telling him the truth with that warning. I mean, if it's NOT about that idea, I can't imagine what else the point of that scene would've been, because on the surface it doesn't really seem connected to anything else at that time in the show.

By far this is the only video that didn't sound salty, bitter and hopeless about westworld season 2. This also shows several reviewers made review videos trashing the whole season shows they miss several points in the season to make it final sense. Also, I can say season 2 has more complex narrative than season one and I really thank you for elaborating.
