    Great video. Had been thinking the longer wheelbase would help, and you showed that to be the case. Now if Axial can offer a Gladiator kit so we can build it brushless from the start, that would be awesome.

    Very nice and entertaining video as usual Francis! I am waiting for a replacement servo for the DIG on my gladiator from Horizon. I heard that the EPAs are not adjusted from the factory which causes them to burn out so quickly. BigHead RC has a video on how to adjust the EPA's on the stock dx3 radio to prevent this from happening. Waiting to test this out. Hopefully it will solve the annoying problem to an otherwise nice little truck.

    I set my end points on dig. Went full max and backed it of just barely. Have noticed it would definitely benefit from a stronger servo. I did finally get my replacement Transmitter and was able to take it out and run it. Definitely top heavy on the side hill. But climbs like a mountain goat can't wait to put some decent tires on it.

    You mentioned that end points of dig servo aren't adjustable but I have just looked over the manual and it gives instructions on how to make the 3rd channel a 2, 3 and 4 position switch as well as end points. Granted that it should be set correctly from the box though. As I've heard of a few having this issue I would advise anyone buying an Axial rtr with dig installed to re-set or check when unboxing and before using.

    Wheelbase is important as the low centre of gravity and weight on the front: the more wheelbase is long, the low is the centre of gravity, the more the weight is on the front...the best you can crawl ascending (descending may be affected from front weight).

  • @RaceHeadrest
    @RaceHeadrest Před 3 lety

    Good work but you do realize what lockers do, right? I have seen in your previous video that you compared a fully open diff all around TRX4 steering radius to the Axial SCX10 III steering radius when the Axcial SCX10III is always locked up, not only on the diffs but also in the center diff. I do believe you do not fully understand the effects of locked up differentials, how much they reduce steering, cause drive train binding with traction increase (more traction more severe binding). Locked diffs great on crawling, climbing, moving on lose terrain but create unwanted driving conditions on dry even surfaces. In short; power always follow the path of least resistance. When a wheel is over ice or hanging in air, on a fully open diffed vehicle you will see all the power going to that one wheel, spinning it wild, but only that wheel leaving the vehicle stuck. When the diffs are locked up, or the axles are locked together with a center diff locker, then as long as any of the 4 wheels have some traction that wheel will push / pull the vehicle as the entire drive train (or one or both of the axles are locked depending on configuration) locked together, turning together. If you want tech people enjoy your vids I recommend to highlight the effect of the lockers on these vehicles as these days using lockers on RC vehicles are common, but not always used (most serious crawlers locked up by default which cannot be turned off), while other older or scale vehicles do not have lockers, and the TRX4 (not the sport), has both option (lockers can be engaged independently for front and rear axles. PS. I have both the TRX4 (open / locking diffs), and the Axial SCX10 III Gladiator. I hope this helps.

    • @RaceHeadrest
      @RaceHeadrest Před 3 lety

      The purpose of the open differentials is to compensate wheel speed differences in sharp turns, as for instance on a left turn dry surface the inside (left side) wheels turn slower compared to the outside (right side) as the right side wheels are moving on a line following a larger radius (circle). Since one side of the vehicle is moving faster, while the other is slower, vehicles are equipped with differentials to compensate for this wheel speed difference. Open diffs are good for parking your car at a shopping center but will prevent any serious off-roading. The middle ground is limited slip differentials where an internal spring will generate artificial counter force and allow about 20% of the engine power reach wheels that have traction, while one of the wheels are spinning wild.
