    The people Daemon killed were actually criminals. Idk why every reactor has questioned that so heavily, lol. He wasn't killing innocent people, it was vigilante justice against well-known criminals.

      Because we recognize that the standard of "well-known criminals" is an incredibly shitty way of determining guilt. As a POC, the history of lynching in the US comes to mind. As a lawyer, the fact that people don't understand this is genuinely concerning.

    The writers, directors, and actors did an excellent job making us care about these characters in a very short time. Especially Queen Aemma. Her death was even more tragic because she was so immediately likable.

      I was just saying something similar in a response, couldn't agree more, I don't even know how they made us care so fast, but they did. And that's a good call out about the Queen, she was a likeable character pretty quick and just as quick... She was sadly taken away.

    A few clarifications for the record:
    - While dragons are actually hermaphroditic and capable of asexual reproduction, Syrax is a “she”. There will be a few dragons gendered as he or she, which will help make them more distinct.
    - Criston is “commonborn” but his father is a steward. Meaning his father is very, very minor nobility from the Stormlands, while his mother is a Dornish peasant woman. This is an even bigger deal because Dorne still hasn’t joined the Seven Kingdoms by the time of this show.
    - The title “Queen Who Never Was” isn’t an insult. It infers “the Queen who never was… but should have been.” Basically Baratheon (who is Rhaenys’ cousin by her Baratheon mother) was openly disrespecting King Viserys I by implying that he was chosen wrongfully by the Council of 101.

    • @JustJeffers
      @JustJeffers  Před rokem +6

      - Ooo that's a really good note, I actually wasn't sure they were asexual, but that distinction definitely will help identify with 10 dragons in the Targaryen kingdom.
      - Okay that gives a lot more context to Criston with the commonborn and the surprise regarding him being Dornish. We didn't realize Dorne wasn't a part of the 7 kingdoms at this time (does that mean it's just 6 kingdoms right now?)
      - Ah so total opposite of what I was thinking as it being an insult to her it's actually to Viserys. Thanks for the clarification, that gives that interaction a much different meaning than the one I inferred.

    • @LuxLoser
      @LuxLoser Před rokem +12

      @@JustJeffers It's still the 7 Kingdoms. Aegon the Conqueror declared himself Lord of the Seven Kingdoms even without Dorne because he was laying claim to Dorne, and that's why all kings after him tried to get their hands on it.
      Also, there are actually 9 Kingdoms: 1 Crownlands, 2 Riverlands, 3 Stormlands, 4 the Vale, 5 the North, 6 Westerlands, 7 Iron Islands, 8 the Reach, 9 Dorne. But before Aegon I, the Riverlands were ruled by the Ironborn, and the Crownlands were contested between the Stormlands and the Ironborn. So Aegon created 2 extra kingdoms. "Seven Kingdoms" refers to the historically 7 kingdoms of Westeros.
      (Which kind of makes it weird for Bran to rename it the 6 Kingdoms. He was still ruling 8 kingdoms when Sansa secedes)

    • @LuxLoser
      @LuxLoser Před rokem +1

      @LuxLoser Před rokem +1

      @@blaubeer8039 Well, the title of the King is "Lord of the Seven Kingdoms," and the areas are referred to as "kingdoms" by people in-universe. It isn't inaccurate to call them kingdoms. Like how the Kingdoms of Scotland and England were, prior to the Union of the Crowns in 1701, two separate "kingdoms" that shared one king and one government, but referring to each as "kingdoms" despite Scotland being governed primarily by an appointed steward.

    • @camachoreloaded5496
      @camachoreloaded5496 Před rokem +1

      This is very interesting. I'm sure the vast majority of viewers saw "the queen who never was" as an insult towards Rhaenys, but if it's actually an insult towards the king, that would make Otto's remark to Viserys about cutting Baratheon's tongue make more sense. At the same time though, doesn't Rhaenyra call her that in the second episode, and it definitely wasn't in a complimentary way. And in the first episode, that one lord in the council also refers to her as that when Corlys brings her up as a possible heir, also in a mocking tone.

    Just for some more clarification, House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire & Blood, which is written like an in-universe history book, meaining it is heavily biased, with many contradicting accounts of the same event. So while we know the general outline of what happened, theres alot of little details that can be added and expanded upon that the book never could, which is why this adaptation is so interesting for book readers.

IMO that performance by Matt Smith is nothing less than perfection, and I can only hope the show runner's stay consistent with the writing of the character. Because right now Matt Smith is stealing every scene he's in, and I'm sorry fan's of Dany, Rhagar, and Aegon the conquer, but Daemon Targaryen is the coolest Targaryen in the lore with Aemon the dragon knight & Daemon blackfyre a close second an third.

    Just so you know he ( daemon ) calls his wife his " Bronze Bi**" because she is from House Royce.. who call themselves the Bronze Kings and descendants of the 1st men.. Lol.. funny little quip from Daemon.. Also, Daemon is one of the best and divisive characters in the fandom.. he can be brutal but he loves his family and house Targaryean.. Trust me.. Its Otto Hightower you wanna watch out for.. I am team Targaryen/Velayron all the way... BTW Daemon would NEVER attack or harm his brother, he loves him.. and he is right.. Viserys should have named Daemon as his hand.. The Hightowers are just as grasping as the Tyrells but more vicious.. like the lannisters.. Otto Hightower is working so hard against Daemon being the heir because he KNOWS if Daemon is named the heir.. he is out.. he will kick out the high tower family because he sees right through them unlike his brother

      Daemon is such a complex character and I'm really looking forward to seeing Matt Smith flesh out this role, I think he's doing a phenomenal job. The comment about a "Heir for a Day" from Daemon though crossed a real line with his brother and house Targaryean in my opinion. I'm interested to see Otto Hightower show his cards, since he played it pretty close to the chest in Ep 1, despite sending his daughter into "comfort" Viserys.

Also very interesting prequil in that it doesnt start with the great houses we know but instead the Hightowers and Velaryons which we didnt see in Got! So thats interesting! The others will appear... Not sure if you caught it but Rhaenys (the queen who never was) is related to the Baratheons (her mother was one) which is probably why they highlighted them so much! So excited for next week and allegidly we will actually get credits! They wanted this to be a long cold open sorta. Its Jon Arryn dying, not Bran being shoved out of a tower, if that makes sense.

    Here's what the book Fire & Blood says about Daemon Targaryen: "In his day there was not a man so admired, so beloved, and so reviled in all Westeros. He was made of light and darkness in equal parts. To some he was a hero, to others the blackest of villains."
    He is George R.R. Martin's favorite Targaryen. He's called the Rogue Prince not because he's a Menace to society, but because he does what he wants. And a lot of negative things you heard about him were said by people on the council who don't want Daemon to be king because they know he'd get rid of them because he sees through their lies for the "council of leeches" they are. Several reactors really aren't understanding Daemon Targaryen and his complexities. I hope you see it with a rewatch. He loves his brother, and some of his "asshole" moments are specifically to spite Otto Hightower, who is a cunt like Daemon said. Otto literally pimped his daughter out to the king, and Daemon sees he's a snake wanting power for himself. That's why Otto doesn't want Daemon to be king, because he knows he'd be fired as Hand. Also, those WERE criminals that Daemon rounded up and punished, even his biggest hater Otto called them criminals. The problem wasn't that he was slaughtering innocents, it's that he made a public show of it to intimidate other would-be criminals to secure peace for the tourney. Does anyone else remember when Ned Stark chopped off a guy's head for running away from the Watch? These were brutal times, and the punishment fit the crime.

      I agree that what Daemon did wasn't as bad as it seemed. I think people see it as bad because in GoT we saw the slavery and the children who were crucified. But we never actually saw any of these criminals doing anything so it looked as if the Prince was attacking people who may or may not have been criminals just to flex his power.

    • @JustJeffers
      @JustJeffers  Před rokem +1

      I think you have a valid point, but as Kim said I think the brutality of mutilating people without really seeing the crimes at hand made it difficult to watch. Plus it seemed more of a flex towards Viserys that I command this watch, they are loyal to me, and I have a lot more power than you think, brother.

    The reason Game of Thrones ending was bad was because of the 2 showrunners. HBO is not to blame, nor is the fact the books were not finished.
    It was 100% David and Dan's fault. I can explain in more detail for anyone who wants to know more.

    The two are so easy to manipulate. Hightower only needs to tell what Deamon allegedly said and they believe everything even though they never heard that from Deamon himself. Deamon may have said the words "heir to the throne for one day," but it makes a big difference how you say something and the mood you're in. And they believe a man who prefers to put his daughter in the king's bed.
    In the same way, the two simply assume that Deamon has arbitrarily killed people and commit themselves to the fact that innocent people have been called thieves, rapists and murderers. No thought that this was justified. These people may have been known for a long time, only the king has done nothing so far. Deamon then actually did something against these criminals, although not the legally compliant way.
    The two have absolutely no idea how this world and this series works. Nothing learned from game of thrones.
    And they don't really listen either. Either the king saves his baby or both die. That was the choice. The mother would have died one way or another. The king was just too cowardly to tell her that.

      To be fair, GOT had incest in it and also, in actual history the olden royal bloodlines throughout Europe/Egypt/Russian Empire were absolutely notorious of incest. Also, girls were considered women as soon as they "bled", regardless of age, so I don't think it's really that far out of left field to think that regardless of the "ick" factor of it.
