Aside from the work George did with Zappa and so many others plus his own releases, if you really want to hear one of the all-time great Rhodes piano performances, listen to "Heather" from Billy Cobham's _Crosswinds_ (1974). They had never played together, yet they nailed it on the first take. Michael Brecker's sax is stellar. 45+ years later and it still puts a lump in my throat. Sheer musical magic.
George knows how to get right into your heart when he plays solo piano. Its amazing how many of the new age pianists from the 70's through the 80's site him as a major influence.
This was one of the most promising platforms for electric pianos going into the future. Such a shame it was abandoned. And such a shame George isn’t with us anymore. What a legend 😢
This guy!!!! If yous get the chance to watch the clip on CZcams of GD playing Because You Loved Me with Kirk Whalum, do. It is an absolute treat. Keep a tissue handy though!
Through the years You have given a lot to my spiritual inventory how does the universe replace someone like you .Miss you, will see you after the resurrection until then R I P
Regards George ! I wish to hawe , ewan 30 procent of Y'r scil ! Evan , V piano is fantastic sounding digitall instrument , huge lesss sensitive to transport from stage to another from an real Grand and , huge less expensive , here , I'm mising an EP , for that money !
It takes time. You want play fast flashy rag like George Duke does here overnight, but once you get a hold of a few Scott Joplin ragtimes, playing them rather slowly. I think "slowly" is the keyword here. Most Scott Joplin ragtimes are in fact meant to be played slowly. I know it could be boring at first, but it's the only way to eventually achieve speed. Speed without accuracy and feel means nothing in terms of piano.
Andrew Piatek I play piano mate, I know, but I have not played ANY ragtime. Only classical and then completely switched to jazz/pop/rock based music. Lotsa fun! :D
raicho20 Scott Joplin's ragtimes are basically classical music. No far off from say Chopin's waltzes. In fact, Joplin like Chopin's music. Yes, for most people Joplin's ragtimes are too difficult technically. But once you get down the "jumping" left hand, and some octave syncopations in the right, the patterns seem to repeat in most of his ragtimes. It's like with everything else. Once you're past the technical obstacles, it's as you say "Lotsa fun!"
It's all great, but I so much prefer the looks of the RD-1000... The RD-1000 sounded amazing, very expressive, had those long wooden keys, and looked beautiful. I have problem with rather tacky looking front panel switch gear, display, and the dial on the V-Piano. Of course, thanks goodness they didn't put a color touchscreen on it or some "super knob". But still, I find the RD-1000 superior to the V-Piano, call me shallow, but that's what I truly like.
It's got that, too. No, you definitely got that! RIP to one of the very best pianist AND keyboardist . But he was humble so wouldn't agree with me. But I'm right. Oh, and I cant really play rag...(proceeds to play the best rag I ever heard...)😅
I sure hope that George was well paid for this, since it must have been very obvious to him that this Roland "modelling" crap was miles away from sounding like a real Grand Piano, on which he was used to playing. I had the opportunity to play this on a demo unit in a music store back then, and the rompler Yamaha CP5 from 2011 was even sounding better than this.
Each to their own. Some keyboards VST's can get very close to sounding like a real piano. Kontakt are very good for piano sounds but its 50gb of memory. Not a fan of digital piano's and VST's as such as they don't sound as good as real piano's and have killed off the demand for them.
@@jaggass Ohh so that's what killed off demand for real piano's. I always assumed it was the $80K price tag and that fact that not everyone has a 300 square feet living room. I guess I assumed wrong.
Miss you George!! Thank you for the many treasures you've left us.♥️♥️🎶🎶♥️♥️
@8:04 "i can't play rag"

To think anyone would even dislike this clip. RIP Dukey!
What an amazing Keyboardist he was. RIP George Duke!
George knows how to get right into your heart when he plays solo piano. Its amazing how many of the new age pianists from the 70's through the 80's site him as a major influence.

Roland
Porque não fazem um vido com O Ronald Fonseca ?
Endorse da Roland no Brasil
Super.
I saw the George's grave. Every time I see these videos...I can't believe it....
If he would have lost 100 pounds, he might still be alive today. A happy, cheerful man, nice player.
You’ll NEVER see one of these on the used market. $8000 price tag didn’t help move a lot of them but I’ve played one and it was (mostly) justified.
What is the song of the intro ?
RIP
The rag sounds mario esque
I'll also get!
#RIP ❤❤❤❤
That intro !
I almost had a praise break when he took it to church
lol he doesn't play rag but then he continues to play the best rag time i've ever heard
Regards George ! I wish to hawe , ewan 30 procent of Y'r scil ! Evan , V piano is fantastic sounding digitall instrument , huge lesss sensitive to transport from stage to another from an real Grand and , huge less expensive , here , I'm mising an EP , for that money !
beauty and the balls
"I can't play rag"
Yeah... Neither can I...

Roland was ahead of their time in 86 with the RD-1000. I think the V-Piano is the true successor to it.
lol "super knob"... yamaha makes a great synth and yes, they put a horrible knob there
It's got that, too. No, you definitely got that! RIP to one of the very best pianist AND keyboardist . But he was humble so wouldn't agree with me. But I'm right. Oh, and I cant really play rag...(proceeds to play the best rag I ever heard...)😅
8:51... That´s not sth I really do... HA HA HA!!! For sth he did not how to do, sounded spectacular...
I wonder what happened to all of your other students.
yea.. George it was the worst rag I've ever hear in my life.. RIP :D
Yea, he was messing up playing ragtime + barely with any soul, but still he knows how to play it.
Well it costs over $7000, it must be good.
George played very well. Too bad this crappy sounding rompler wasn't up to the task of sounding as good as George.
It didn't use samplers it used remodelling.
I sure hope that George was well paid for this, since it must have been very obvious to him that this Roland "modelling" crap was miles away from sounding like a real Grand Piano, on which he was used to playing.

Insanity
The decay is really not great.
George........"I don't really play rag". Proceeds to smash it out the park........
