🇬🇧 “Hey, sokoly!” (“Hey Falcons!”) is a Polish-Ukrainian folk song, which for me is a symbol of the strong connection between Poland and Ukraine. This is a song that was born in Poland but has become a true folk song in Ukraine as well. I decided to record it as a sign of my immense gratitude to all the Polish people for their incredible support of Ukraine in this difficult time. Thank you! Together to victory!

That is not so folk song. Melody is Polish called "Na Zeloney Ukraini"(At Green Ukraine") was written in XIX century it has a composer (don't remember), words in a song partly the poem "Zapovit"(Will) of XIX century Ukrainian national Renaissance poet Shevchenko.
This song became popular after Polish movie "Fire and Sword" about Ukrainian rebellion in XVII century against Rzech Pospolita (Poland Kingdom).
And there's a vid of UAF aerobatic squadron on MiG-29 called "Ukrainian Falcons" (Ukrainski Sokoly) accompanying by this song. Besides Ukrainian Trident means a falling attacking hawk, and a word "воля"("freedom") encrypted in it.
She singing Ukrainian, after Polish, after Ukrainian, after Polish. Like this
And because she is Ukrainian, she softens the Polish language very nicely, so the two languages blend together.

This song is a quintessence of common Polish-Ukrainian-Lithuanian history which lasted for several centuries and was destroyed by Russian empire and Russian nationalism (with help of Prussia and Austria). Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian people have been trying to get rid of slavery for at least 2 centuries.

We really like this song. Perhaps it's not noticeable for speakers of English or many other languages, but she here sings in Polish and Ukrainian in turn. Now we appreciate the connection that was restored between our and the Polish people. I hope that all issues between us will be finally resolved. Together we can be much stronger.
🇺🇦Доброго часу доби! Велика подяка за те як ви дивитеся, слухаєте наші пісні і коментуєте.
Ukraine language is very beautiful and melodic 💙💛
czcams.com/video/2uKvZJf9wEw/video.html так співає соловей. Ось чому українці називають свою мову солов'їна.
I like the polish one ❤
You see uncle, she is singing that in both Polish and Ukrainian, which are similar languages anyway. Some words are absolutely the same, for instance "falcons", some are similar in sound, for instance omeenitie (Ukr) and omeeyaytchie (Pl).
I used to hear that song in childhood at family meetings when my well drank uncles were singing that.
Eileen is the best cover performer in Ukraine for me. Love her covers in Ukrainian. Her vocals are amazing 😍💙💛

The song that can bring tears to ukrainian (and I believe polish) eyes:)
Every Polish know this song :) (most common sing when are drunk ;)) any way its remember Poplish-Lithuinian-Ukriane Commenwealth where we ware one nation. Strongest cavalery units thous time (Winged Hussars) next to unstopable Cossacs deffend feom Ruissians, Tatars etc. Strong Commonwealth was not good for Russains, they tried to devastate it in many times. We all know that only strong West Europe (Poland, Ukraine, Lihvinia etc.) prevent us to be again tender card of German-Russains bussines.
@@blurrpp314 there were thoughts about adding the Ruthenians as equal part to the Poles and Lithuanians but nothing came true. For Muscovites/Russians to be happy about it, unfortunately.
Actually, Olena signs the song on two languages Ukrainian and Polish.

It is famous song of Polish musician of XVIII-XIX century Matsey Kamensky. It was very popular in Ukraine and Poland and became the folk song with dozen of variations. Now Ukrainians and Poles sing this song remembering the time when they fought together against all enemies of their common state Rzeczpospolita in XV-XVII centuries (Moscow Kingdom, Ottoman Empire, German states and so on). In some way, the places where Ukraine fights against Russia (South and East of Ukraine) are the same places which we are talking about in this song. So this song unites memory of both our nations and Eileen sings it in both languages. Every Ukrainian can understand every word in Ukrainian and Polish row of the song.

8:20 Cossacks were living on the frontier in villages, far away from government and law. So, they are (very very harsh comparison) like cowboys for the US. The picture of Falcon - as a predatory bird (birds of prey) has left a significant print in the Ukrainan culture, and is mostly associated with the militaries (not only Air Forces but more general). Since the falcon is so fast in attacking their prey, by comparing the militaries to it folks are picturing the speed and inevitability of attack.

Now, during the war, Poland and Lithuania are helping Ukraine the most. And no wonder, because once Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland were part of Rzeczpospolita - the largest state in Europe in the 16-17 centuries. Then, part of eastern Ukraine was captured by Moscow. In 1721, Muscovy takes the old name of Ukraine - Rus, in order to claim the lands of this Slavic kingdom. Thus, it acquires the name by which it is widely known today - Russia.
Later, many Polish and Lithuanian territories also fell under the influence of Moscow. In the 20th century, all three countries were under Soviet occupation. So it is not difficult to understand why Lithuania and Poland wholeheartedly side with Ukraine now.

@@UNCLEMOMO To be precise, this is the constitution of the Zaporozhian Sich. it is called the Pylyp Orlik Constitution in honor of the hetman who signed it
Not really, and actually kozacy zaporoscy took inspiration and based their laws on the laws of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and thus Rzeczpospolita called Złota Wolność (Golden Liberty)- built upon Neminem captivabimus, Statute of Nieszawa, Nihil novi, Henrician Articles and the Warsaw Confederation etc.

About Cossacks and Nature.
Cossacks are something between a knight-errant and a nobleman. It is usually believed that the main kind of their activity was military affairs. They entered the traditional Ukrainian canon during the war between Ukraine and Poland. At that time, Ukraine wanted more freedoms as part of Rzeczpospolita, and then the creation of a separate state (alas, these wars weakened Ukraine, Poland and Rzeczpospolita, giving Moscow a chance to conquer). Due to the fact that the Cossacks took part in the national liberation war, they are often associated with military campaigns and military camps in a wild remote area. Their image is associated with freedom and long journeys.
In folk paintings, a Cossack is usually depicted sitting under an oak tree, with a national instrument (kobza or bandura). He sits with his legs folded in Turkish. Behind him is a spear, saber, bugle and horse. Probably modern musicians imitate this canon or intuitively use its elements.
Cossacks were not only nobles. All strata of the population were there. They had their own government, court, religion and much more. Yes, they were an army. When a man reached a certain age, he went to Zaporizhia Sich. By the way, it is a myth that they did not have or were forbidden to have a wife and family. Also, the Cossacks were not only in the east of the country, but they are the most famous. Cossacks were strongly associated with music. During the hikes, someone always took an instrument and played. Kobzars are strongly connected with the army
There was two types of cossacks. The first one is the cossacks in Rzeczpospolita, and all as you wrote. And the second one is the guys who provoked the initialization of cossackship in Rzeczpospolita, the people of Zaporizhia Army, cossacks. They had their own democratic government, even president was there, he was called as Sichovyi Otaman, they was very militarized and every men had two options: to serve in army for years or buy himself a freedom.
