Terrifying. So very close. Absolutely a miracle no one was seriously injured.
Thankfully, there were no fatalities in this incident, but it might have been lot worse if the plane had collided with the apartments!
I assume since there were no fatalities, those pilots will still be allowed to fly planes again after all of this blows over

Too dangerous WAY too dangerous. If that would’ve hit an apartment complex it would’ve killed at least 100 people or more

Many US experts on KM-1M ejection seat I can see here. The father of my friend has actually ejected from MiG-23, he survived and he has NO spinal traumas.

This is crazy… they’ve been doing an air show above my house for years it’s lovely to watch and thankfully nothing has happened but now I’m a little weary..
Aerobatic demonstrations should only be permitted over shorelines or deserts, never over a populated area. When a plane goes down, there should be a wide safe bailout zone at one side of the flight line.

Call it aerial. Call it Samantha or Kevin. The point is that air shows doing demo flights over populated areas should not be happening. It's a gratuitous danger. People who want to witness them should be willing to assemble at suitable locations and not expect these air shows to come into every major airport like some Shrine Circus or County Fair event.
The crazy thing is that this wasn’t an aerobatic demonstration. The experimental certificate issued by the FAA only gives them so much to do at these shows. There were only a few passes with no extreme maneuvers.

@@puirYorick The thing is that these airshows don’t go to major city airports to do these shows to minimize the risk. Usually they’re held outside city limits or on the outskirts in less-populated areas again to reduce the risk of any major accident. Even if the aircraft was flying with no aerobatics, do you just not expect the aircraft to not fly at all? It does have to fly to airports (not even during airshows) which are usually populated by people who should have knowledge of the risk of living near an airport that hosts an Airshow or not.
The pilot was trying to troubleshoot the jet and co pilot pulled the ejection with no regard to where the plane would hit. Extremely lucky.

Both pilots are surely suffering spinal compression, hopefully will recover completely. That ejection process is brutal. Yes, no airshows over populated areas are needed- we see this situation too many times. Crashed into an apartment complex, seriously - how is this even type of display even being approved these days, we've seen this all before haven't we?

This guy is a retired lieutenant commander as a combat pilot for the US Navy. He is a seasoned pilot, and he also flies full-time for a commercial airline. I know him personally. If the decision was made to eject, then that decision was made consciously. He would not have left his plane had it not been the absolute last resort. Thank God no one was injured. Including the pilot and the pilot observer.
Was he in the front seat or the backseat? I heard the back seater pulled the ejection handle and it fired both seats.

At first I was wondering why he ejected so high rather than sticking with the plane to make sure it went somewhere safe, then one of the chutes opens well below the plane. Any lower, and they wouldn't have made it, there was barely enough space as it was.

Wow, apparently the forward pilot wasn't ready to eject, but the rear guy was like we're out of here and pulled the handle. Probably saved both of them. But could have ended poorly on the ground.
It’s a usual scenario that takes while Double Penetrating
as the operators of the aircraft you have to put the lives of the public over your own. even if that means sacrificing yourselves to divert the crash as far away from populated areas as possible

It actually happened just before the show wrapped up. Sunday was the last day and it happened around 4:40 with the show ending at 5.

Incredibly? No. They ejected from a low speed, low altitude, stable aircraft. It wasnt "incredible" it was routine. And went just how it should
before ejecting pilots should ensure that they don't hit anything

Airshows should be banned near populated areas! The pilots punch out and the jet crashes near an apartment complex. Fortunately, in this case, no fatalities but it could have been much worse if the jet crashed into the apartments!
The unfortunate thing is that people start to build around airports. Build it they will come.
@@Tom-hv2eu Move the airshow to a different airfield far away from population centers then. I like airshows but I don't want them to endanger anyone. There have been two many incidents when innocent bystanders were killed by airplanes that crashed in airshows.
They don’t care. Dozens and dozens of people have been killed over the past few decades at these stupid events and they just keep on keeping on. Should’ve been cancelled years ago.
They had barely any time to get out, they did at the last second. If they didn’t and still tried to fly there *would* be casualties

I acctualy just saw a plane stall mid air (A small prop,) it started to bank, and then it stalled. Just a few minutes later,me and my friend heard a plane start up and heard a "POP, POP" right after and staled, then nothing else. I hope everyone is ok, i will keep updating this comment on anything else.
For ships there is this rule, something like: "The captain leaves the ship last". And this is for people doing their regular jobs. So I suggest a similar rule for airplanes especially if it's about entertaining some and endangering others. "Do not eject as long as you play with the lives of others". Just a thought.

Even if they got it working by the time they ejected, they still couldn't really steer because of low air speed. It wouldn't have mattered.

The mig-23 is a nightmare to maintain, lots of engine failures, very troubled aircraft, the Russians tried to sell them to their allies, most of them said, no thank you.

I'm hit of miss. I live in Monroe but my parents live just off from the airport. I saw the mig flying Saturday and my kids loved the f22 just before the show ended for the day. Then I was fishing in van Buren park when the pilots ejected.

@@stephenw.9647 for how urbanize the area is there's plenty of places safer to aim for. 2 large lakes (one the pilots landed in), a large land fill, a divided highway with the north bound traffic diverted to the south bound side due to the north bound portion being under construction, a large farming area that when I lived near it would be harvested at the end of July. Raised land where an apartment complex was torn down, lots of places to aim the plane and they picked the corridor with about 6000 people in it.
ejecting can ofter fracture the spine. Tho this isnt a huge deal your not allowed to fly fighter jets after so lets hope they are bother fracture free

You are aware that planes can still crash outside of an Airshow as well? Might as well ban any form of transportation all together as car crashes also tend to happen in residential areas. I suppose we should all tremble in fear every time something with a motor passes by us.

@@Greysky2024 Sometimes people go to car meets, pretty much an equivalent event to an Airshow, and I see a lot more deaths and injuries coming from there. Who would’ve thought that taking any motors vehicle and having “fun” with them would have such a risk

They were flying too low. The plane flies like a rock when you lose power and control.
High altitude gives you more time to regain control and more time to maneuver the aircraft. They had seconds and were surrounded by infastructure. Would've been killed with the same collateral. The real issues likley is in maintenance or bad choices.

This is why I am terrified to fly, one little malfunction and it's bye bye. A friend told me about flying 12 hours to Japan and it made my legs weaken lol
It's just like a car. Poor maintenance leads to poor results. That's why we'll never have flying cars as so many people have terrible vechile maintenance and even worst descion making while driving
@dan…If it helps, you literally are safer in the air than on the ground. Check the statistics. One is much more likely to experience catastrophe in an automobile than in an airplane.

I still would like at least a little bit of control, if something goes wrong in a car you can pull off to the side, if something goes wrong with a plane, me and 200 other people are going to have a horrific plumet to the ground, zero chance of survival. I will take my chances in a car lol of course there's things like head on collisions, in that case, anybody in that car is fucked.
@@danbaker7640 I completely understand that. I always liked to be in control. I began to enjoy flying when I finally decided to cede control to the pilots, and just relaxed. Of course, the personal television at each seat helps. I remember one time being so engrossed in a tennis match that I didn’t even realize we had taken off!

These Air Shows shouldn't be near corperated areas so as not to danger communities on the ground. Why this show is near apartment homes as opposed to an isolated air field is beyond belief.

A well maintained aircraft is just as safe as a new one and just as prone to accident. You cannot judge the safety by the country of origin.
