- Jamie Dornan and Eddie Redmayne began their time in Hollywood as roommates. For Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” presented by Amazon Studios, they reflect on driving their tiny red rental car around Los Angeles, only to be rejected at auditions over and over.
Dornan and Redmayne also discuss their most recent roles in “Wild Mountain Thyme” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” respectively.
“I found this very unique feeling on ‘Chicago 7,’ going home at night. ‘Oh, I don’t get to say those again,’” Redmayne says. “And the weird thing with jobs, you find that years later, occasionally, walking down the street, and the odd line from something will have remained.”
Dornan had a similar experience on the set of “Wild Mountain Thyme”: “When I finished, when we wrapped, I went into my trailer and had this strange, physical reaction to not getting to have another day with these people on the set. I sort of collapsed and cried

I wonder if we tend to hear the stories of failed auditions more from actors who have eventual success because that success means we hear their stories. There must be actors who never break through but we never hear from them as they have no exposure.
They were so fun... those early days...so precious! They mentioned the the failures and the difficulties. They've come a long way.

Agree 100%. Those people that didn’t like it, went into the movie with different expectations. It was meant to be odd and lyrical and silly but lovely; not the stereotypical love story we see in every single movie.

I soo love Eddie!!! The trial of the Chicago 7 and Danish girl are two of my favourite. And then Mr. Dornan, I just discovered him :) watched the fifty shades films during the lockdown , and I though he was great portraying Christian. I also loooved wild Mountain Thyme! A bit of a shock though to have binged on Christian Grey then right after to see him as Anthony on Mountain Thyme :)

Guys, I’ve looked this up, it’s Benedict Cumberbatch, not Robert Pattinson. When Robert left school, he was cast as Cedric diggory in Harry Potter and he was instantly famous. Jamie dornan and Eddie are both friends with rob, but it was Jamie revealed in an interview with variety (who do this) that they both became friends after meeting on the set of fsog in 2015, and Eddie stated in the interview that this all happened in 2009

I would like to know how they all met initially. Did they hang around in the same circles in a London then moved out together. Or did they get you know each other in LA by attending the same auditions, exchanged numbers and ended up hanging out because they’re all a similar age and from the same part of world.
Rob Pattinson and Tom Sturridge went to school together, and Tom Sturridge and Eddie Redmayne did Like Minds together in England
Jamie and Eddie met in 2005 then in 2006 Jamie and Andrew and Tom Sturridge met. Charlie cox maybe known Eddie, Tom, Andrew, Jamie since 2006 cause They all auditioned for a 2007 hit movie "Stardust". Rob probably known all of them since 2005 or 2007 via Tom.
