    Hey up youtubers, this week we change the timing belts belts on the newly bought Ducati Hypermotard 1100s, the proper hooligan bike.
    Usually a job for the main dealer, but you don't have to be frightened of this belt swap as its easy a pie.

    The belt tensioner bearings are expensive. Solution since I can see yours are in need of service. Take them off. Cut the the shaft off the one and replace the shaft with a grade 8 bolt and get some 7mm bearings from your local bearing shop. The single none adjustable is just paring two 7mm bearing and reinserting the bolt no problems there either. You just saved yourself 600 USD for about 20 USD to replace them all. I have been over 2k miles and they are still in perfect condition. The problem is Ducati uses a plastic roller insert to separate the bearings and that gets pulverized inside the housing. So the balls runs free and eventually burns out. If you own a Ducati you know parts take a long time to get or are too expensive for most. You can spring for a like a german bearing cost like 7 dollars a bearing mine were 4 dollars a bearing but again i'm still running fine. Long trip to vegas on the broken one and then another trip to vegas on the Fixed one and what a difference. Vegas is a 4 hour ride from Los Angeles and my 2007 Ducati Multistrada 1100s has been a dream to drive. Expect to do all your servicing in LA as there is only 2 dealers here and one private mechanic that I have found so far. 951-640-8908 ask for Nick he's in Encino, Ca

      @@SIMONB1 it's advisable to tension them using the tuning software or a digital tuner.. the belts are rubber.. they can absorb.. or.. generate harmonics that transfer to.. or .. from the valve gear.. which WILL over time impact cam lobe & rocker gear life.. advisable to retune the tension a 100miles or so after fitting new belts

      Yeah, just done my 1100 monster, easy job. Hardest part, removing the tank and exhaust. Doing the belts, 10 min job, and that's taking it easy and letting the tippex dry...

      @SIMONB1  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey up David, taken some years to stay calm and collected whilst fixing stuff 🤭, it makes it easier when you prepare and understand the details, as detail is key 😁, my wife won't be very understanding when I evict her washing machine and dryer from the garage to make more room for some more motorbikes 🤭, I think 10 is enough at the moment so they are safe, for now, ride safe, Simon B 👍

    Tension of horizontal and vertical belts is checking with different crankshaft timing mark positions. 99-110 Hz? Workshop manual recommends 140 +/- 5 Hz for the new belts.

    Hey Simon
    To rotate the valves you stepped off camera.
    This was to check you had aligned the belts in the right teeth
    And the valves were not going to bang into each other.
    I trust you were spinning the back wheel..
    You had left the bike in gear? Which one?
    Thanks for a concise video.

    Question... (i have a 2012 796, i'm assuming this is the 1st gen as well, because you said air cooled?) one thing you didn't mention is how to get the crankshaft lined up (you already had it lined up before you started the video). Can you explain how to?
    Also, do you know how old the belts were that you changed in the video, you mentioned it should be every 2 years, I've read that it should be every 5 years. Curious of just how old the belts were that you replaced.

    • @SIMONB1
      @SIMONB1  Před 2 lety

      Hey up Lkeabss, I half mentioned the way to get the marks lined up at the beginning, remove the spark plugs, put it in second gear and by hand rotate the rear wheel, untill the marks line up, I had no records of when the belts had been changed, so better to be safe than sorry, for the cost of two belts, saves blowing the engine 😁, it's the degradation of the rubber that they need changing I believe, hope that helps , ride safe Simon B 👍
