I remember my grandmother in the early 60's saying one day the Monarchs might be gone because the farmers were tilling under the milkweed. I noticed I didn't see Monarchs anymore when I lived in WA so when I inherited my grandmother's home in Idaho I started including Monarch plants on her 1/2 acre in the city. I saw a few in my garden last year and was SO excited!

It’s difficult not to get frustrated that so many just don’t understand how easy it is to help use native plants trees and shrubs and build back our biodiversity. Even people who believe that climate change is manmade go home every night to turf lawns and a few non native, and even invasive, plants. Rather than protest climate change they should first act in their own yards.

Another thing a person can do is talk to their electric company and encourage them to start planting milkweed and other Monarch plants in their right-of-ways.
