    It seems there would be alot of friction on the rods as they slide in and out. Seems high maintenance

    looks good but practically not possible . Rods will bend after it will get load . plus it will have too much vibrations .After getting load It will run for five minutes and mechanism will collapse .

    This would cause jamming at extreme angles, not to mention a LOT of wear on the rods sliding in/out of the discs. A lot of strain is also applied at the right angle connections. This would only work on light duty, light weight applications. You'd not be able to move a heavy loads. You would also need a lot more oil/grease as you have far more moving parts. A gear has only 2 moving connections, where the two gears mate. This has at least 6. Too many parts, too many possible failures. Good animation, tho

  • @florh
    @florh Před 6 lety

    what is it's purpose, just to be able to angle your rotating object? in that case, why not just rotate the motor and save a lot of weight that the motor has to spin resulting in a more efficient transfer of power.
    The idea works, very nice, but what are the applications that we can do with this, which we can't using conventional ways?

    pretty picture, but it will fail.
    Only 1 bearing support on final drive shaft. Need at least 2 or a much longer sleeve bearing.
    Not enough support for sliding rods, pretty sure they will bind up and bend.
    These drives generally are not as self centering as people think. Especially if those drive rods bind up in the housing. Just my onion, you know what that's worth lol

    Why are so many people running down these young engineers. I am an Aero Space Engineer with 45 years experience. I have seen proposals which were run down, by dumb asses, and further developments and they became success, and I have heard”why we did not think this before”. Encourage these young engineers.

    • @mickcarson8504
      @mickcarson8504 Před 3 lety

      What are you talking about? Who is running them down? It's just that this supposedly gear-less method will not work under a load because the rods will eventually bend when torque is applied. The driving part has to spin the rods and the driven part is under stress to meet the demand from the rods. So, if you apply a load, e.g. a wheel, or pulley and it has a weight to torque ratio similar to an engine/gearbox torque applied to a car rear wheels via a tailshaft fitted with universal joint, the generated torque forces the wheels to spin. If you provide a torque from a car engine/gearbox to this thing to rotate a wheel at the driven end or something to cause a rotating traction, those rods will bend and snap into smithers. All we see here is a free rotating device that only works without a load applied. So, what are you actually talking about these guys? Nobody is saying anything about what they made. It's just that it doesn't work when a load is applied, simple as that. Nobody cares about your 45 years experience in whatever..., it's just that people with a lesser intelligence know that the project will spin, but would it still spin if a load or torque is applied at the driven end? You're angrily criticising other commenters for nothing. Geez 🙄
