    love the video... looking at ideas to include a RF dog door in my house doors... one thing i would LOVE to see is the detail mechanism of those rotating 'murphy' beds. it's a shelf system on one side, and bed on the other, it rotates vertically... lots of examples but you can't buy the hardware and hard to see the details

    Some of those designs are problematic like the pulling rollers over a 90 degree edge in a track. Itd work if there was a counter balance pulling up in the last roller so the pulling mechanism and structure doesnt have to put so much force into pulling a small length to get that middle roller axle to continue pivoting over those last few inches of lip. Remember, to pull a non-ridged length flat ( or parallel with the ground, usually used in the design of high tension power lines when exploring the concepts of cable sag and stresses on mount points, but can be applied to lengths of chain or hinged flats) the force at the ends of the span approaches infinity. So to raise the center a small amount against the weight of the span pulling it into a curve, a LOT of force goes into pulling the end apart an absolute minuscule amount. Of course in power lines its typically balanced against the next length of span, but you still can only put so much tension on the cable before it fails. And that idea plays across in a few of these mechanisms. Lots of insane potential side loading for a few designs too if used on something as large as a garage door or something. One of the doors was close but omitted the coil counter balance springs on the other sides of the arms. It seems these are more animated than simulated. but still......
    ....All that being said, this video is still a VERY cool collection of example mechanisms. Besides, if you can see where a mechanism might be problematic, you have a good eye for engineering in the first place! And sometimes its more important to understand how the levers interact than tracking all the force vectors. Id love to see more of those parametric views that trace out the path of the pivots. Youd think it just goes up and swoops over, but it might actually follow a slight wave like path. So cool!!!

      You don't need an engineering degree to make these mechanisms. All you need is knowledge of electricity, dc motors, 3d modeling software like blender, and a 3d printer to bring it to life, all of which can be learned on CZcams for free, I'm currently doing this right now.

      @@lukanator2753 If you're producing with an extremely high tolerance, you may need CAD software such as those. But from what I've heard, for general precision modeling purposes, Blender is pretty precise, and you can get additional software for it at a fraction of the price (at the cost of some functionality, I suppose)

    • @StoicStimulation
      @StoicStimulation Před rokem +2

      @@426F6F IDK man I don't have much experience with blender but the main purpose of it (freeform modeling) is virtually useless for 99% of engineering. For all of the mechatronics projects I have ever done, everything has been done in solidworks, onshape, or fusion.

    That one at 13 minutes 10 seconds is completely bullshit. The pivot point where blue meets yellow would have to be offset to let the game enough leverage to Upright itself otherwise when pink start sliding to the right blue would just be pushing directly straight into the pan on yellow and there would never be any lift

    Some of these are nonsensical, Rube Goldberg-type assemblies (meaning more complicated than they need to be), are incomplete, or simply won't work the way they are animated to work. Some would produce too much stress/would incur a lot of friction on their components. A couple of them might work ok with some modifications. Animation can make things look like they work when they either shouldn't, or would be highly problematic. A few of them are pretty clever, though -Retired mechanical engineer.
