Thank you for your review Anthony! The final mini will ship with softer buttons and also RGB LED! Thanks for the new quote now I don't have to update the website I guess! :) The kickstarter finished, but pre-orders for the mini will be available once the new prototype is validated!
I feel like a great addition to those device would be a induction shaker/flywheel battery/capacitor ofc with loading LEDs and overload cut off.And eSIM capability...
The Arduboy is already mini, but some sadistic folks thought they needed an even smaller one and made it....and then some seriously deranged folks out there said: we can go even SMALLER!!! Insane, totally insane🤣🤣
Project get niche, he'd have to spin off yet another channel. Plus other people are already doing it and he doesn't want to step on someone's specialization. A bit lime what happened with only fans.
@@ReceptiveRaptor Dronebot workshop is one of the best, Ben eater if you want to go really low level, Andreas spiess for more generalised electronics and radio engineering, Zack Freedman for some wild and wacky stuff.

I would love more videos like this! Anything that involves openness, community, and ingenuity always fascinates me. Things like indie games, custom built keyboard, or crowd sourced and open sourced tinker-able devices like this. I think a lot of seasoned programmers and engineers had a leg up by growing up around simpler tinker-able devices being the norm, whereas many of us today need to go out of our way to have a similar experience.
I'm in pain just looking at this. Like the gameboy pocket is already so small that I couldnt play it for more than a few minutes before flaring up my carpal tunnel, and here they made the arduboy about an inch wide. So Thanks Guys, you're causing physical pain (I guess technically its just in my head and feels physical). Now keep working to make it smaller than my thumb!
Anthony's enthusiasm for anything is contagious. Hes so very smart but communicates in a very easygoing way. The sort of person who makes life more enjoyable for the people around him. :)
A lot of people don't realise just how much these things can revolutionise the stuff they carry in their pockets. Small devices running games is hard enough, but when you get to managing input and output within the same space as a flash drive, to me that just boggles the mind.
Yes, please more like this. I've finally gotten on the maker space after getting a Raspberry Pi, and I just can't stop having ideas and FUN now! The communities that have sprung up in the maker space are brilliant, and it just brings me joy to see tech that invites you to kinda choose your own adventure. I haven't had this much fun since I was a kid dissecting computers for parts. Things are just so much more accessible now.
The RP2040 is a great chip, and quite inexpensive. A little bit of work, one could easily make a better 32 bit "mini game boy". People have gotten DOOM to run on a Pi Pico. There's a dozen or more 3rd party boards using the RP2040 chip. Some with built in displays and buttons. The RP2040 also can do CD quality i2s audio. It can do a LOT with it's programmable i/o. VGA, HDMI... (not a paid shill, I just love the RP2040, I have a 10 picos, they are $4 each, and a Pi 3B and a Odroid, I'm with ya on Raspberry Pi stuff)
As a developer I'm intrigued. I don't have the free time anymore to play with something like this but I would have loved it in high school. I made lots of programs for the ti graphing calculator. I even bought the overpriced TI 84 silver edition so that I would have extra flash storage for all my programs.
Whenever You’re ready Anthony. I truly believe you can take your own future into your own hands should you choose too. You’re extremely smart and a natural behind camera . You’d excel no doubt if you start your own LLC / Own Media Company . I think you have enough charisma and smarts to carry a channel alone. I hope one day you’ll do So.
This video is honestly fantastic, Anthony is so passionate about this little product, and the way he explains everything down to the button feel is just lovely. By far the best host of LMG, right next to Riley.
More of Anthony, and more of this cute cool microconsoles! Have you checked out the Thumby? it's.... EVEN SMALLER! I made a game for it just to see if I could, it's pretty cool.
The mini is probably great for DIY Tomodachi builds. 3d print your own enclosures and bam you're re living 1997 and not feeding your pet until it dies.
There's a reason why despite semiconductor things getting smaller the actual user devices stay the same or get larger. Usability and readability is important! :)
I don't comment to much on internet, but this is time when I feel that I need to. This type of content - nerdy, hacky, DIYy projects are something I love, and something we need to see more! That's something which can bring more people into creating things, into thinking like engineers.
Kids these days with their backlit game playing electronic devices. Back in my day, when we had a portable electronic device, we had to play it in the dark with no backlight. If we wanted light, we either turned on the bedroom light, or got a magnifying glass with a light.
I doubt a mini game device would have prompted you to start learning C. The real advantage these kids have is the whole arduino project and the availability of information and components in order to make simple circuits, controllers, and being able to program them easily. Arduino I’m sure has inspired a lot of kids to learn computer science. If arduino were around when I was a teenager I definitely would have done more with circuits. All I had was a stupid fan that you could hook up to a nine volt battery and slap a switch in the middle of there, and then technical textbooks on C and assembly.
I design electronics sometimes. The way some of the features come together, these will not last even through moderate usage. Don't waste your hard earned cabbage on this. Example, button under the acrylic is held on via small solder pads. That's absolutely going to just break off when you apply a hair too much force to press it. These are actual landfill material. Just buy an arduino - cheaper and more capable.
One of the best videos on your channel. More, please! Especially anything that runs MicroPython or CircuitPython, which is super popular among elementary school children. Linus: Let's give the smallest computer to the employee with the largest hands...
It kind of reminds me about the mactini - the apple advert parody, very funny. Also there is one little thing that kind of popped out to me, for the mini version must be in some kind of encloser as I thin the bear contacts will be a perfect ground for collection of skin oil which are fairly conductive, so the thing can be killed by just handling it.
I swear, I must be the only person that doesn't see what the big deal about micro-B is - this is like the most quintessential 1st world problem lmao. Still have PLENTY of micro-B devices working fine years later(and they don't collect gunk that I have to regularly clean out like my oh so great type-C devices require; especially phones, they love to pick up pocket lint) ...anyway, the Arduboy/Mini is cool, but I could never justify it cuz I know I'd only play it a couple times, then lose it or leave it on a shelf collecting dust. Love seeing enthusiasts out there making this kind of stuff though!
I personally would love more content related to really really simple electronics, things like this that are simple enough one person can learn everything about them, from the pcb design to the software, and make it totally from scratch themself.
I love the coverage of building things from the ground up. Like software developer tools, hardware hacking tools, etc. I also watch a lot of coverage around folks these days still writing old commodore programs, etc. I think there's some overlap there and it's worth checking out for sure!

Anthony’s the best, just find him any bit of gaming oddware and he’ll deliver an entertaining video. I kind of want teenage engineering to make more stuff like the playdate. I feel like they were there early but now others are stepping in and this definitely has the look of their other products.
Oh cool, Catacombs of the Damned is a game I made for the Arduboy! Another great thing about the community is that most of the games are open source, so both the hardware and games are hackable.

Love this stuff. Though I'd probably be more impressed if I didn't own a Thumby… Serously, look them up. Even smaller and less useful! Also, weirdly, a lot more accessible in terms of hacking/coding. For the Arduboy you generally still need to use the Arduino toolkit and write C; with the Thumby it's just… you connect it via USB and go to a website, BAM, there's your IDE. And you write in Python. I wish there was a slightly larger Thumby, or a more easily accessible way to program the Arduboy. Best of both worlds etc.
u can tap twice onto that Anker powerbanks button and it enters a mode where it supplies up to 1A (I guess) until it dies with no auto off or something like that
I think there's a line when a product is way too small for it to be fully usable. It's cool that they made a gaming system that tiny but it's just impractical.
I don't know if there any youtube ready projects yet, but tinyML projects show that microcontrollers with miniscule storage and processing power can do amazing things. The OK Google function on android is actually a neural network that runs on a 14kb flash controller because they had to use the DSP controller since it needs to work while the CPU is off during sleep.
The only reason Anthony got to present this one was that he has the largest hands at the office and it makes the size of it look even more ridiculous. :^)
