I think he fell in love with her in season 1, but couldnt really admit it. And she had feelings for him in season 1 too, but she wasnt sure what her feelings were or what she should do with them. The moment they met, they both knew there was something there. He just found out sooner because his background is less traumatic than hers and his soul is carrying less weight.

in that epsiode, there was a psychic & she told beckett she had a vision about her meeting an alexander, and that he'll be very important to her & will save her life! later in that episode, castle tells her that his middle name is alexander & beckett is all bluffed :)
