  • Here am I starting my Velo from cold. I slightly over retarded the ignition hence when it starts after a few kicks it spits a bit.
    However, enjoy the sound.

Your bike is the exact same chrome version as my dads. One of the most beautifull bikes ever made. And still, the only 500 to average 100MPH for 24 hours.

What a great bike, i always wanted one. I have a 2015 Bonnie and guess what, Its been sat in the garage for a while as I've been busy, and now it needs a new battery! I'd go back to a kicker everyday. You're bike looks and sounds great thanks for sharing.

Yes it still needs priming, but very rarely floods. As long as you follow the "drill" it is a good starter.

Good job there was nothing coming up the road when you backed out!

In the 1960's I dreamed about owning a Velo after reading an article about how they were hand made.

A lovely sight and sound, but obviously a bit hesitant in starting. I notice the green can - is it drinking unleaded petrol or maybe it would prefer a drop of 5 star leaded? (if you can get it, probably not!) Thanks for sharing.

    Hello Simon,
The monobloc block carb can very easily flood the engine, if, as you say it is a new one, do you still have to prime it by pressing the plunger down a few times.
With the concentric, it has an automatic built in choke which works very well. The only problem I found with the concentric was that the machining in the barrel was not very good. I used to find that the throttle slide would stick three quarters open and would not shut down. That used to worry me a bit. I had mine sleeved and that solved the problem. Keep in touch.
    Best regards.

Simon, Get yourself a concentric mk 2 carb, have the barrel sleeved with brass. No more starting probs.

Very interesting, I put a new monoblock on it, it was a tricky choice. No one seemed to offer definitive choice at the time

No wonder there's so little motorcycle crime in England: you could never make a fast getaway.
