    As a dog groomer, trimming the hair in between the pads is hugely important! Especially when there’s wood floors!

      Yes that's actually one of the first things that occurred to me about the wood floors. People don't understand that not keeping the pads trimmed, including in between, is like us running around on a polished floor in socks.

      @@BayMaxAcademyI know it’s probably fun and you likely enjoy giving your dog a cute wardrobe, but I’m not sure it’s the greatest idea to do the most with a service dog’s wardrobe, if that is indeed what you’re doing and I understood your comment correctly.
      A service animal’s vest is a uniform meant to convey a message to the public, so it’s possible being too cutesy with it may lead to some annoying and unnecessary doubt of the legitimacy of your service dog. I know you know that happens all the time, due to ignorant people who don’t know the basics about service animals, and ignorant dog owners, who also don’t know the basics about service animals, but still pretend their dogs are service dogs so they can reap the benefits. Both are problems, so it just concerns me a bit to imagine a real service dog not being respected because it’s walking around in a frilly pink vest or something, and it’s handler potentially being seen as a faker for the same reason.
      Just a concern of course, I could be totally off base in what I’m imagining! But frankly, I know there is no standard uniform for service dogs, so I can’t quite think of any reason you’d need to have tons of expensive service dog vests other than maybe a bunch of utilitarian options, which makes sense. But if it’s a bunch of cutesy stuff, I’d be cautious, because a serious doggo with a serious job doesn’t deserve to be taken unseriously because his owner maybe got a little too excited with the accessories. With peace and love, of course!!

    i still don't grasp why they didn't just put carpet runners on the stairs anyway. wooden stairs are slippery even to people. it's different on stairs because you have to push off from the step below to get up and sometimes if they are polished too well or the varnish is slippery you will fall especially when you get older. and if someone comments about people falling down stairs because of incompetence, that is rude. people who are 60+ have harder times on steps anyway and it's worse when they don't have something to grip on to.

      Speaking as an RN and volunteer EMS responder, I've had MORE patients fall down stairs that were carpeted than wooden. Most slippers, shoes and even bare feet can maintain a hold on a wooden stair, but will slide on carpet. The most ideal surface is wood with a gripping runner across the center. (Although I will admit after I'd injured my back and had a bad pain day at my nephew's house.... I had to crawl up the stairs for help, and was thrilled the stairs were softly carpeted....... shame on me, I know...LOL)

    A therapy dog is not there just to sit in people's laps, and forcing one to do that is ridiculous. Let the dog move around from one person to the next, or sit in front of a child while it reads. You can't force a dog that doesn't want to be in those situations, a dog either wants. to be around people, or it doesn't. Maybe even go to hospital and see what therapy dogs do because it takes a very calm and confident dog to do therapy work.

      I agree! I actually thought my dog wouldn’t be a good therapy dog because he’s not everyone’s best friend, he just sits there and let’s people touch him. A very calm, obedient, and confident lump of a shepherd. Doesn’t care about being your friend. I did all three canine good citizen classes with him and a local therapy group founder wanted him on the team because of this temperament. The nursing home folks can’t get enough of him haha

      My one pup Tucker we thought would’ve been a good therapy dog. Though he’s too attached to his brother. Otherwise he’s just a very chill dog who will just hangout for pets and move away if he isn’t getting them. He’s an English Cream Golden Retriever. Typically he can be pretty derpy and playful if he sees something like a squirrel or sometimes another dog. He’s 8 but acts like a pup! He’s just so mellow and chill. Plus his tail was docked for medical reasons so no worries about the tail being an issue around medical supplies if it wags.

    The best way to love a dog that you feel is "like a child" to you, is to love the dog AS dog. After 11 years with my first doggo, who I absolutely felt that way about, I can say that I never had these issues BECAUSE I always tried to approach my "love language" with him as "human & dog" not "human & smaller human".
    To really love someone or something, you have to love THEM and not what you want them to be. So, to really love on your doggo, you need to take care of their needs as a dog. To know what those are, you have to learn about dogs and consider what a dog might need to be happy.
    Never get a pet to replace something else in your life without first ensuring you are dedicated to taking care of the animal how it requires, as anything less is not an act of love but of selfishness (no matter how well meaning or with how much love you enact those bad behaviors).
    Poor lady, I hope she and her doggos are all much better off after the doggovention!

    People who love their dogs like children that even children need "training". When you have a kid sure the very beginning is babying since they are literal babies then but then you have to potty train them, teach them appropriate behaviors, teach them right from wrong, look or for their well being, adjust your parenting/training for the individual, socialize them, accept help from others, work to stop separation anxiety, help them feel secure and safe, make room for yourself and just make sure they are decent members of society. You can't call yourself a dog parent if all you do is spoil your dog without taking on any of the hard tasks of actually being a parent. Anybody can be a parent or pet owner but to be a good one takes continuous work

    All these people create neurotic dogs because “they love their dogs like they birthed them” don’t understand that there is no cookie cutter to loving children either. The best way to be a good pet owner is actually the same as the best way to be a good parent and that is to love and guide the beings they are responsible in the way the child or pet needs it rather than the way that is gratifying to the guardian.

    • @AW-vi3df
      @AW-vi3df Před 25 dny +1

      I agree, but I have to add a very important element that you left out…. Just like with children you absolutely MUST educate your dog. You absolutely must educate and potty train your children, and teach them good manners and teach them boundaries and the things they need to learn in order to survive in this world. You need to do the same for your pets. You must educate and train them and provide the quality of care that they actually need, not just the care that gratifies you and makes you feel like a mommy. It may be gratifying to you, but it sure as hell is not gratifying to your dog.
      Just like that, being overbearing and smothering may be gratifying to you as a mother, but is certainly not helpful to your child. This leads to very neurotic children and separation anxiety and feelings of abandonment if you are not there, 24/7 which is actually really damaging to both children and animals alike

    “Oh the pieces were too big!” Hah! Hardly!! Dogs throats can fit way more down than a humans. My corgi wolfs down frozen chicken feet like it’s nothing, pun intended. Not in one bite of course, maybe three or four, but she’s doesn’t take long devouring them at all. She’s always monitored on anything she has in case she chokes though so don’t worry. But this is just another example of how much she anthropomorphises those dogs and treats them like actual children.

  • @goldwink
    @goldwink Před 11 měsíci +22

    Pls stop with the “Tilly! Tilly! Tilly!” You’re just making Tilly tune you out when you call her name. Say it once and demand attention. They’re not children. Be firm, consistent and follow through on the first command. If Tilly doesn’t obey and respond the way you want, stop dead in your track and fix your gaze on her until she pays attention to you. Keep the leash taught and tap on the leash for attention. She will know something’s up from your silence and you looking at her. Then give her the command again ONCE. If Tilly does it, reward. If not, tap on the leash again and try once more.

    To be honest, as someone with autism and adhd - this really looks like hyperfixating to me. In addition a lot of autistic people suffer with anxiety and social isolation, and bond strongly with animals. This isn't a justification for her smothering behaviour, but I can understand how this could have happened. I think that needs to be addressed at least.

    I love Maltese. My maltese is my service dog. He also does agility, canine freestyle, and dock diving. When I retire him hes going into training to be a threapy dog. The best ways to spoil a dog of any size is training, giving them a job and doing active stuff with them like dog sports or hiking. Dressing them up and treating them like a child instead of a dog isnt spoiling them.

Also she is devaluing the dogs’ names by continuing to say them over and over multiple times in a row with no response. She’s like ‘Tilley, Tilley, Til, Til, wait Tilley, no Til, Til come’ I mean come on, this poor dog is not gonna respond if you address it that way!

    I think people get confused between "dogs being like children" vs "dogs are children". Hence we fur babies and babies. The fur part indicates that you are like a parent to your dog, but your provide this fur child with what the fur child needs to be the best fur child, not the best child. Also, yes, both children and dogs require responsibility, hard work, teaching, and love. That is as far as the similarities go.

      Even those who say they don’t need socialisation, do. You make symptoms worse by isolating yourself and increase anxiety when you do want to do something social.
      Its fine to want to be left alone for 6 days in a week but for the seventh, you need to find somewhere you are comfortable with going out and you shouldn’t be dreading it either. Every human needs social interaction, its just finding the right space and environment

    My diabetic medical alert service dog Shih tzu was also a therapy dog for cancer patients but my health made us stop. Your dog must be a very chill dog not scared of anything, very very adaptable to every conceivable situation. From puppy on up you train a dog not to be scared or anxious. A dog needs a minimum of 2yrs of training before you even think of testing a dog for therapy dog status. The stupidity of this dog owner and the audacity and the ego to think her dog could pass as a therapy dog status makes want to shake some sense into her. A therapy dog must love people and be gentle and 100percent fully trained. There can be 0 percent anxiety in the dog. At 57 I have had perfectly trained dogs my whole life because you start training a pup before its weaned. Socialization very little. My uncle was a awesome dog trainer and a Breeder of German Shepherds . I was involved in training from toddler on the training of dogs. My dog started working with Cancer patients. He also alerts to diabetics when their blood sugar levels are too high or too low. This is his special skill. I would have had carpet on the stairs for me, or something non slip. It is safer for humans as well as dogs. N nice oriental rug runners. With non slip back ing safer for everyone. What that girl does not know is training never ends if you want a excellent dog.
