    I'd give you 2 thumbs up if I could. I landed here after struggling for hours watching another video which was a 4 part series. It basically shows how to rebuild everything from the top and it's super difficult. Thanks for the fresh perspective; now I have a plan! That q-tip trick is my missing link. Now I can rebuild the top with the trigger group totally out of the way and all the room the rifle has to offer for my fat fingers to hold the seer up and out of the way while I install the hammer. What a 180. You're a genius for getting that on film. Thank you so much!

      I am in absolute and total agreement Greg and I wish there was a way to get this video to be the first one you find when you are actually trying to get an old topper 88 trigger assembly back together…. Love your little Q-Tip holding trick and I was thinking about trying to make a little pin that exact pin diameter and then I realized how much I was obviously over thinking the whole deal…. I need a new trigger guard as my plastic or whatever they used is broken off on it’s bottom side so it’s not completely surrounding the trigger… not a huge problem but it’s not very good looking in this condition so hopping I’ll see a replacement trigger guard ??

    Thanks for this great video. Cleaning up a topper 88 that hasn't been used in 30+ years. Think my mom got it as a kid. Going to surprise her with it and a couple hundred target shells to have fun with.

    Thanks for the info. I got my great grandpa's topper 88 and it's seen better days. I gotta replace the trigger guard and reblue it. This is very helpful.

    Nice trick with the Q-tip.....going to give that a shot!!!

      Thanks, I just found it works easy enough without having to find or make a small metal pin to temporarily hold it.

      I ended up having a bit of an issue with the pieces moving, and used 2 sections of the q-tip shaft, as it fit tighter. But still, it worked!!! Unfortunately, while I now have a nice, shiny new trigger guard assembly, I bent/mangled the damn barrel break lever spring by trapping it under the block, and am waiting for a new one to come from gun parts....(siiiiigh)......

    I'd make a slave pin out of an appropriate sized roll pin. That way when the pins get punched in, it's a close-to-exact fit. Much easier. Keep the slave pin and label it.

      Oh the forend removal is just take out that screw and just wiggle and pull the forend off, nothing special to it.

    Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement trigger guard for a 1985 vintage H&R model 88 - 20 gauge? Thanks in advance.

    Any idea where I can find a replacement metal trigger guard? It is still a mystery as to who did what, but mine got broke, and the broke part vanished. Wife and daughter said they didn't do it, and the dog doesn't know how to lift the lid on the trash can, lol. Great video, BTW. Thumbs up, and all that....

    I did this q tip trick and can't get the trigger back in. Can you help with that part? Is there a trick?

    • @RustyGuns
      @RustyGuns  Před 11 měsíci

      You can try a smaller punch and use like the q tip
