The water spray is to clean the radar absorbing skin/paint. The base is located near the ocean.

At about 4.15 the closeup of the fuselage showed VFA-101 which is the Grim Reapers, a Naval Carrier squadron training F-35 fleet pilots. Both VFA-101 and VFA-204, a Naval Reserve FA-18 squadron, are actively working and training future Lightning pilots of all branches.
I hope that those in Congress will fund the Super Hornet or, better yet the F-35, to the remaining Naval Reserve squadrons as the FA-18 A+ currently assigned to the reserves and the Blue Angels are way beyond their projected lives.

Flying a jet fighter is not a question of gender, but being able to do it. If you are good enough, you must do this.

She used to fly an F-15. Most F-15 pilots that were chosen to fly the next gen. fighter aircrafts usually receive an F-22 not F-36.

She would be much better off in a more conventional plane like the F-15,F-16 or F/A-18 because unlike the F-35,those older planes can actually hold their own in an actual dogfight.

Fernweh When it comes to aircraft,American technology is just about as capable as any other nation on the planet. It's just that the United States Air Force has a history of preferring to be lazy and rely on technology the whole time with the weapons and avionics,but they forgot about the mistakes they made during Vietnam. When the war in Vietnam was just getting started,they thought that all dogfights were going to be about guided missiles and that the gun or cannon was obsolete and so on some of their planes like the early F-4 Phantom jets,they tried ditching this weapon and soon found out that dogfighting skills were just as important,meaning that ditching the gun was a big mistake and later started reequipping their planes with it again. The Russians always knew that the gun was important on fighter and attack aircraft and that's where America screwed up. Now America thinks that fast and maneuverability once again should take a backseat to high tech weapons doing all the work again,however should the wrong sort of circumstances occur again,which they likely will our military forces will realize that using the F-35 to replace almost all the current fighters we have like the F/A-18 Superhornets,F-16 Fighting Falcons,F-15 Eagles and A-10 Thunderbolts will be a big mistake. A plane like the F-35 which has been described as slow and unmaneuverable has no place trying to dominate all forms of air combat including air superiority for dogfighting in air to air combat or the attacker role for striking ground targets,much less the multirole position in which it can take on both tasks of air superiority and the role as an attacker all at the same time sort of like the F/A-18 Superhornet can. The F-35 has been criticized for it's poor performance in Red Flag exercizes by none other than some of it's own test pilots and performed with very poor results when compared with many other aircraft. It looked pathetic compared to all the other American,European and Russian equivalents and was considered to be the plane that couldn't climb,couldn't turn and even couldn't run! Now that's pretty sad in my opinion.
And yet the F-4 was quite vulnerable to more than a few MiG 21's which were even older and technologically inferior aircraft at the time as well. Speaking of which,it wasn't even 2 years ago that many pilots and experts studying the F-35's performance as being even worse than that of the good ol' MiG 21 Fishbed,which is absolutely pathetic for any so called "sixth generation fighter jet".

SUB ZERO LIN KUEI Once upon a time the F-16 just entered service and killed many pilots due to technical problems such as wire chaffing. Now people use words like legendary when referring to the F-16. The F-14 was drastically under powered by brutally unreliable engines. Now it too is considered by most to be a "legend". The Su-27 was so bad that a pilot died, when testing the early model, and the designers literally went back to the drawing board and made a completely new fighter.
Perhaps you're not aware but the F-35 is undergoing testing. Testing is for working out the bugs. It is unreasonable and unrealistic to expect perfection from a new, and very complex, war machine right out of the gate. That has never happened before and is highly unlikely to ever happen in the near future.
I wouldn't be so quick to dump on the F-35 just yet!
