This video presents the following types of shoes:
Flat shoes: gladiators, ballerinas, moccasins, loafers, Mary Jane’s, mules, slingsbacks.
Heels: ankle-strap heels, kitten heels, stilettos, scarpins, killer heels, platform heels, wedges, chunky heels, peeptoes heels.
Boots: Chelsea boots, cowboy boots, knee-high boots, thigh-high boot.

I had decided to wear high wedges for My wedding but they were so heavy that when trying to walk in a small stair ( to see if it would Work) I slipped and landed in a painful heap with a twisted ankle at the bottom , needless to say I changed shoes to extra cushioned low healed with a small plattform sandals which I had worn before to the actual wedding . And also changed shoes a lot to the dinner etc ( even though I was mostly sitting)

I would like to suggest that the ballerinas are not inspired by the block toe shoes that ballerinas wear en pointe, but rather by the practice slippers that are soft.

Justine, I love all your shoe descriptions, very usual, but when I need to share a fantastic shoe these days. I forward the website or take a photo of it to share with a friend or family member. You are so right; many of us don't know how to describe different styles of shoes.
can you talk about how to identify good quality shoes? By price, or maybe where it's made? A lot of high end brands now make their shoes in china, Thailand, etc, but still charge over $300, e.g. Frye. Are those brands still high quality and environmentally friendly?
In Brazil, we have "chinelo" wich is what in US is called flip-flop, but usually is made of rubber. The most famous brand is Havaianas. I personally love oxfords. And boots!

Dansko clogs have been my favorite for 12 hours on my feet. As a nurse one often walks and stands for many hours during the day. The composite sole now makes the clog even more supportive and flexible for one like me. I’ve had flat feet and surgery age 16 to remove bunions bilaterally. I wear Danskio and Sanita clogs to work too! Massage therapist. I have a few pair of Clog Mary Janes - they are so cute and still have the supportive base.
🇵🇹tamancos, wooden shoes, similar to what was once typical of the Netherlands. No one wears them anymore, but I find them gorgeous!
Lots of farmers still wear them because they are warm but not too hot and protect your feet when you work with machinery. I've even seen one ride a bike while wearing wooden shoes…

It's funny that you have color theory videos that talk about how to figure out your skin tone and undertone which is where this is really all centered from.. people are WAY too easily offended! Really it's 'Murica who can't figure out if they want to be straight edge and offended at EVERY turn or so blantantly RUDE to people on purpose and call it a free country and say they are entitled to their opinion -everybody is. Very good and informative but you forgot a very popular kind of shoe ...espadrilles! Canvas top, or linen, usually a rope or straw decorated bottom. Great with skirts, casual dresses, shorts and pants esp. cropped/capri pants! Comes in all colors and sometimes with laces to tie around the ankle! Merci beaucoup!

In my country espadrilles are called Alpargatas (a brand) and are not fashionable because they are associated with gauchos and low class workers. Some brands produced luxury espadrilles, but apart from a fad in the 80s they were never fashionable again

I’m from India and here, we have flats-jutis and mojris, (both closed at the toe) and Kolhapuri chappals (open, with toe support).

In Australia we have the Ugg boots and thongs, in the USA theyre called flip-flops I believe. What are they called in Europe?. When I visited Chile in 1980 my grandfather made us what I now know as Clogs . A hand carved wooden platform for your foot to sit on, with a super soft leather covering over the top of the foot with the heel exposed. Magnificently comfy shoe. Wish I still had mine. Cheers Luisa

Since this is tropical Caribbean climate, apart from flip-flops, gladiators, slide sandals, ballerinas, boat shoes and sneakers, I like alpargatas (espadrilles) and Menorcan flats (avarcas) to endure the year-round humidity and summery heat.

Most of us don't care about the redskin thing FYI, especially when we know that someone's native language isn't English. It's called context and I'm usually pretty good at it. Hell I just laughed at the faux pas. I call myself Indian a fair amount of the time just because it's the word I grew up using. Both my father and grandfather called themselves redskins every now and again.
Can people not get offended for me and other American Indians? I'm right here and if I want to get offended I can do it for myself.

I think JL has shown time and again in her choice of subjects, models, and general commentary that she has an exemplary commitment to diversity as central to creating and maintaining conditions of social, political, and economic justice. Because I thought she and followers would want to know, I was going to try to raise her consciousness, as my own was raised by indigenous activists, about the history of the use of the term "redskin," beginning with the bounty paid by early colonial governments to European settlers who showed pieces of skin as proof of helping to carry out legally sanctioned genocide, the chief means of securing land on the ever-expanding colonial frontiers. I don't know what the tone of the responses to JL's use of the term was, since I haven't seen them. I would be sorry if they were condemnatory, since we are all works in process in learning about and respecting others in a world divided by race, ethnicity, class, faith, gender, gender orientation, etc. I feel hugely grateful to those, usually people of color or poor whites, who over the decades have addressed my own offenses born of ignorance. I hope that in your remarks you are not denying that many indigenous people would think the use of conventionally derogatory terms is of considerable consequence. We act on our thoughts, and our thoughts rest on our perceptions. Fascism is on the rise globally as economic conditions deteriorate, and ignorant, frightened people will band together for survival of the basis of dangerous ideas about their particular group's biological, mental, and moral superiority, if progressive people do not challenge their rationales.
@@starrbowie8649 I understand your point, but honestly when I compare what my grandfather went through as a mixed race kid born in 1927 in a tar paper shack in and industrial area of Peoria whose mother would go on to be sterilized by Indiana for being on welfare after her husband was incarcerated. His brother was taken by the state to be adopted out because he was white passing.
I feel pretty blessed that my worst problem has ever been a few verbal insults and two physical altercations.

In the Philippines, we have a traditional shoe called a bakya. It's a chunky slipper with a wide strap in front because it's hot in our country, so our shoes need to be open. It's made of wood, it makes a lot of noise when you walk on wooden floors which a lot of vintage houses have, and it goes with our traditional dress, too. Love you :D

The 'Punjabi Jutti' is the north Indian version of a ballerina and the 'Kohlapuri Chappal' is the Indian version of the Gladiator.
You missed D'Orsay type shoes.
I noticed that too. I'm sure she didn't mean to suggest that the shoe types she covered were a comprehensive list but the D'Orsay style always reminds me of Marie Antoinette for some reason, although I don't think they were created until just after the Revolution.
Those are my favourite! She also missed brogues, and some other styles of boots that I cannot mention hence why I watched the video haha, I think she should make a part 2 with more 'obscure' and specific shoes

I noticed that many luxurious brands (like moschino) are making very expensive slippers...platform, jeweled, etc etc. But I really cannot understand it. Aren't those for the swimming pool? or a not-that-sexy way to be comfortable around the house? I've seen american girls wearing those in the streets with socks...here in Italy is just not that fashionable. Same thing with jelly sandals. Tell me what you think :)
+Arianna Danesi hey, well... One of the methods to innovate in fashion is to take something and use it for something else or in another situation. For example take slippers and use them somewhere else. It can be fun on the runway - but it doesn't always turn out well commercially later ;-) There are cases where the "innovation" just doesn't get accepted because the image of the object is just too strong ("slippers = home shoes"). I definitely get your point for Italy.
But hey, there are countries in other regions of the world where everybody wears "slippers" on the street ;-)

I adore your channel! I learn so much from you. In one video, where you were telling us about shoes, you mentioned wearing a flat shoe (loafer) with a very small block heel. I didn't think it would look good on my size 9 seats, but they were perfect! I bought different sorts and lots of colors so I can wear them with anything. I usually wesr ballet flats, but they have definitely been replaced. Thanks you!

From California in USA, we live in flip flops, sneakers or athletic shoes. These are more for casual wear and for both men & women.
Irene Mueller In New Zealand we call them Jandals and not a single person doesn't own a pair.
In the US jandals (at least among teenage girls) refers to a specific brand of slippers (that are ridiculously comfortable).
seriously why does the world always hate on our flip flops? it's our culture! we live at the beach and only wear actual shoes while exercising, at church, or if it's raining
@@mroxannevh "our cuture" funny because flip flops originate from Asia LOL. And they have been rpoven to be extremely bad for joints and the feet because your toes have to crawl all the time in them.
I would love to visit California and also seems like a cool place to live, but even if I did I would always look like a tourist no matter what. I refuse to accept those options for everyday wear haha. To me they're like crocs, comfy but only acceptable around the house/gym/pool. So many beautiful, breathable, comfy sandals out there.
Gladiators were from ancient Rome ( not Greece) and fought in the Colosseum, which still exists today
