Deric DuBose Teammates defend each other, so, some of the astros most likely thought that he could’ve just taken an outside line. It might not have been on purpose to run the catcher over, but he knew that they were going to get him back for that. Usually hitting a batter with a pitch like they did is a way to get even. Just lets out anger for their team too.
Also idk why they called Marisnik out, sure injured a man and that sucks but the ball popped out before he even made contact so he would have been safe even if he took the outside line.

When he saw that the catcher was on the outside he made the decision to slide headfirst around the inside. The throw brought the catcher inside (as the announcers said) and they ended up colliding. He looked sorry and publicly apologised bc he was trying to avoid a tag altogether, not cause a collision.

The bullpens sometimes have done something. The infamous Yankees-Orioles brawl in 1998? Graeme Lloyd ran out of the bullpen and was the first to start throwing punches aimed at Armando Benitez, after Benitez (thrown out for hitting Tino Martinez on the very next pitch after surrendering what would be the game-winning home run to Bernie Williams) challenged the Yankees dugout.

More mass higher up means it takes longer to lean back to hit an inside pitch. His arms are long enough to reach for a pitch on the outside corner.
That upper body caused him to lean in quite a bit on the high inside which pitchers dont like which demonstrated here they like to have the entire strike zone open so I guess step back some if you're gonna lean in that much

@@christopherdraper5815 I've never played though done batting in the nets here in the UK and pitched a few as I played cricket and even I could grasp why it's much more difficult for a larger player to get any/good contact when the ball is thrown closer to the body, it's not much different in cricket tbh.
As Cap Fantastic explained, the announcer was Ralph Kiner, who hit over150 more home runs in a 10 year career than Pedro Guerrero hit in his 15 year career. Ralph was an early proponent of weightlifing in baseball. He knows exactly what he's talking about.

I really didn’t like that slide by Marisnick at all. Not that I thought it was intentional but he went in really hard at the plate. Calhoun’s throw didn’t exactly help Lucroy in that spot but it was just a nasty collision. With that said, you’re absolutely right. Jake took the retaliation very well, I guess knowing that he was in for it. It sucks to see Lucroy got hurt but kudos to Marisnick for not making the situation worse
The rule is there for a reason. MLB protects catchers now. HE knew he screwed up as soon as he did it.

5:10 what people might not see cuz the frame isnt shown is that the runner tried to avoid the catcher. The announcers mention it too. The catcher was outside but the throw took him inside, but by that point the runner was already trying to go inside to avoid him, hence the collision at full speed

Love how an unwritten rule of baseball is essentially: Rule - 'Batter must not hurt the pitcher's feelings.', but with the following clauses:
Clause 1: 'In the event a pitcher's feelings are hurt, the batter may be on the receiving end of an ill aimed fast ball."
Clause 1a: ' In the event the ill aimed fast ball hits the batter's head or elbow, both benches and bull pens must clear.'
Clause 2: 'Subsequent to brawl of Clause 1a, if the feelings of the pitcher are not adequately subdued, then Clause 1 may be repeated. However, this is no longer considered justified. The pitcher is to be ejected from the game immediately."

That clip where marisnick (however you spell his name) runs into Lucroy was not intentional, he said it was a split decision to try and deke lucroy but the catcher stayed with him and boom collision.

Scuzzithree he went inside because almost all the time the play at home is outside on the foul side of the line, he went inside to try to avoid the tag but the catcher stayed inside too. Marisnik was trying to avoid a tag by not being where the catcher thought he would be but it didnt work. The dude felt terrible about it, its not like he wanted to hurt him. Of course hes going to he low, hes diving for the plate, he didnt “lower his shoulder” into him to hurt him.
@@shutitdownnow0676 it does matter. It's called normal baseball in the running lane. He decides to go inside and once he sees catcher there what do u want him to do? Open his face up? Go run into something and let me know if u just let your face hit it or if u lower it under ur shoulders to let ur shoulders hit. Its human protective instincts

As a former pitcher, I can confidently say not once did I ever get upset at someone showboating against me. All it did was give me motivation to be better and smarter against the next batter.

Honestly the entire Marisnick/Lucroy situation, how can you not admire and respect Marisnik? He never intended to hurt Lucroy, he just made a really poor decision, immediately apologized and wished Lucroy the best. He took the retaliation like a man and put his head down and went to first. And on top of that he tried to de-escalate the situation with Pujols. I think I just found a new guy to cheer for
Marisnick didn't break any rules. (Written or not) What happened was a misread. It happens. The way he reacts to his HBP is pure class. Knew he didn't deserve it, but knew it was coming, and still wore it right. Moments like that are why I love baseball.
