      In my video "Vares" I used neutral angle except for the little girl at the end. But I didn't tought about that- just filmed it.. ;-)

      Im shooting downwards with a wide angle quite a bit to emphasize perspective and height. Depends a lot on the genre of the video :)

      In my short film "CARPE NOCTEM" I shoot mostly at eye level or slightly from above. But honestly, I didn't think about it too much, also if it matches quite well the idea of ordinary working class people. :)

      yeah i agree angles tell you alot .like you see in most movies where they show the mafia kind of villan stepping out of the car n the camera is like on down shooting upward which show the subject bigger and scary

    Some nice insight there and you make really good videos with great camera angles. And I agree that camera angles affect perspective of the viewer, but I don't really think that it decreases the value of the character because of camera angle, I think the camera angles decide which part of the story you want the viewer to focus on. Thoughts?

    I've always understood the concept of shooting angles depending on how you want to portray the character, however coming from a wedding photography background, shooting down is always a more flattering angle over shooting up, particularly with females. How would you combat this if you wanted a flattering angle without making the subject appear weak? Great video as always :) (p.s. which of your LUT's do you use to grade these advice videos? I've purchased them and love your grading on these)

    • @mattih
      @mattih  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for the great comment! I think thats actually a bit of a myth that its always more flattering to shoot down. You can make a person look really flattering and still film a bit upwards but I wouldnt go too far with it. For females especially it helps to just tilt the head up a bit when your filming up. And I use the cine desaturated on these tutorials but of course I modify it a bit 🙏

    • @AdventuresofSarahJames
      @AdventuresofSarahJames Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the great tip! I hadn't thought about tilting their head up a little too, I'll definitely give this a try! I'm very new to film making (well, more vlogging) as I've always been a photographer, watching your videos has helped so much, I hated Premiere up until watching one of your video last week and now I love it! Keep up the awesome work!

    Great info! Does the same pertain to wedding film-making? Many times I use the downward angle on our brides for a more flattering look, and use the upward angle more so for the groom.

    • @mattih
      @mattih  Před 7 lety

      Yea I dont think a downward angle is necessarily more flattering. When I did film weddings I filmed a lot just slightly up and if your in the right place then it looks great.

    I once came face to face with the President of Kazakhstan - in London's Natural History Museum of all places . I'd have found it really difficult to get a low angle on this guy, he was small - I mean Danny de Vito small plus the fact he had five 6 1/2 footers in eighties tracksuits with earpieces and shooters protecting his low flying ass. Just a point. Still searching for that feel. Love the channel.

    Im having a tough time deciding on if I should get the A7S II or the GH5. I use alot of Continues Auto Focus, and with the recent auto focus issues with the GH5; its got me tossing and turning between the two.
    Given that you are currently using the GH5, what is your experience with the auto focus and if there are any issues with the 5 axis stabilization (because there were also issues with that when walking forwards, and how it would create a swaying motion.)
    I also really like full frame sensors, but going to a GH5 wouldn't be too much of a change for me as I currently use the a6000.
    What has your experience with the A7S II been like aswell.
    Thanks so much for any feedback!

    Hey man, I want to say thank you so much for your wonderful work! You make great videos and you have helped me a lot! I'm only 14 and I would love to one day be a freelance filmmaker. Right now I don't have that much gear, and all of my videos are edited in iMovie, yeah, iMovie. I have to be creative and use what I got and keep advancing. I would love to have a bunch of gear, but I have to be realistic and work with my small budget. I have had a camera in my hand for many years, but I want to advance with what I have. Do you have any tips for people like me who are in this stage of fiilmmaking? Thanks a lot! I appreciate it! Cheers, Nolan
