Scotty Kilmer great vids, your one of the best mechanics on you tube, you should start selling merchandise, like shirts, coffe cups, ect. Many of us viewers would definitely buy it. I seen some shirts from labels but they say sold out.
#2 Sir is becoming a rare commodity.
Scotty Kilmer so mine flashed then it went away then minutes later it flashes again and then just stays on. 3 days later it went off.
Scotty Kilmer Sometimes a bad battery can trigger codes & other electrical parts to act up too,, right!???
Wheres the link to buy common sense? Unsubscribed.
Easy fix for that engine light on...I put a tape on it..so I don't see it
Best Solution Ever😭🙆😄😂
Just like driving a "low mileage" vehicle after resetting the odometer.
🤣🤣🤣
LMFAO
It works!
I just fail to understand why would 20 idiots leave this guy thumbs down! he's going way out of his way to help people, and he gets thumbs down for his pains!
Scotty, please never change your channel content. I love the great advice you have and the goofy stuff you do in your videos. Popping out of the trunk and filming random things like you do always makes me smile.
Bought my 1st car yesterday after watching most of Scotty's videos I went with a Toyota Camry :D
BOOMER90100
You can't go wrong with a toyota. ...
Excellent car =)
If it's a 2018 it may not be a great buy. Only time will tell
Good choice. I have a Rav4 going on 2 years and 19k miles no problems. Of course I baby it and am very picky with the oil and gasoline it gets.
🤦♂️ hope you enjoy it. Any car can be a good friend if you treat it right.
I’m so glad you said that Scotty!! I almost added Pepto to my gas tank!!!
You’ve saved me again!!
Fools! I added it to the oil crank case like you're supposed to do.
If you watch one of Scotty's video and you didn't smile, you're having a really really really REALLY bad day!
Abdulhaffiz Anoze and you just need to rev up your engines!
Been there🤦🏾♂️
Abdulhaffiz Umar true that!
Im such an idiot when it comes to cars. But thankful your videos have saved me thousands of $$.
Knowledge is power lol
Scotty Kilmer videos always are like therapy after work... I love watching your videos. Over and over... you make to see the car problem so funny and so easy. Thank you MR. Scotty Kilmer.👍👍
Thanks for the support!
It means your wallet will suffer a huge weight reduction
Very accurate, But in many cases it's the sensors getting corroded so i just throw some electrical contact grease made for sensors/electrical components on cars.
which indirectly means weight reduction for the car. which equals to better fuel economy and handling. the positive side of things :D
Viewing even on new vehicles 👊🏻
Which isn't good because, then, you have no money. Fuck that.
Hey Scotty, I really appreciate your videos. They helped me understand a lot. I was able to pass my ASE G1 test. As a new mechanic I have learned a lot and just wanted to say thanks for sharing your knowledge.
So helpful gives me piece of mind I swear this happened to me last week and Iv been living in fear thinking something might be wrong
Brilliant advice Scotty. My 2003 Envoy XL threw a P0172 code on the obd2 reader... too rich. But then about 300 miles later it went off and hasn't come back yet. I think I am going to forget about it for now. Good advice again like always! Keep up good work.
This is probably the most helpful vide of Scotty's that I have seen. I like a lot of them, but this one answers a question I have had for years!
Scotty, you don't age! I have found a ton of information in your older videos, but you always look the same. Great genes.
I like that Scotty keeps his vids short and to the point, for the most part.
My car's check engine light is always on. It's been about 7 years. It was one of the reasons the dude sold me the car. I just check the oil and use some common mechanical sense. No probs and I got it for a good price.
Best auto mechanic show on CZcams keep up the good work Scotty!
Love your enthusiasm and character. Been watching a while and lots of laughs (from a hot rod kid). Yeah I'm still learning lol
*#LetsGetScottyKilmerTo1MillionSubs*
Well deserved and one of the most respectable mechanics that posts videos for *free.*
thanks for the support!
He should replace the annoying rev up engine intro, it's really loud and gets old after 10 years of watching his videos, I been subbed since he started on CZcams and i love scotty but this intro I just immediately skip to 0:20 all the time
Well, I hope he's respectable but I know he's respected.
Scotty Kilmer Your channel helped me and friends multiple times. It's only right that you hit 1 million subscribers soon!
WholeNwon Even though i work on cars as my hobby, I still watch all the videos because there is always something new to learn. Scotty has decades worth of experience with cars in general, He is both respected and trusted.
this is so weird... my light came on yesterday and today this was in my suggest list to watch.
-Big Brother government- Oops, I mean Professor Google, knows all about you.
It is probably just because you like to watch Scotty Kilmer videos.
Yosef MacGruber ... THE GOVERNMENT... LOL
Well the evil NWO stole free-energy technology from Nicolai Tesla and from the American people. Had free-energy not been suppressed, most of the reasons for the stupid idiot "Check Engine" light to come on would not exist. Rather than having some complicated chemical reaction factory underneath the hood (the internal combustion engine), we could have had free-energy cars by now. Even better than electric cars, as not only would they not burn even a drop of fuel, but there would be no recharging either.
I about guarantee you told somebody with that phone rather text phone call or Facebook vent and it picked it up
Many times I'm thinking about a certain topic to do a search on and as soon as I type in one letter, the topic shows up!
Scotty, I'm old-school and pretty much know what my car is doing, all the time. Believe it or not, but I have never been compelled to stop at a parts store to have one of those diagnostic machines read my codes. I bought a 1991 Chevy Cavalier RS, 2.2 Iron Duke with 94,000 on the clock. The previous owner said, it was on it's last legs. After driving just five miles, I discovered his "mechanic" had set his plugs at .035 when they should have been .045! I changed the radiator and starter, oil change every 3000 mi. The air never worked but I don't mind. It doesn't burn oil and doesn't leak and the 3 sp. automatic is sound. It's my daily driver putting 84,000 bringing it up to 178,000 since I bought it. Just today, I noticed the oil is down about a pint. I know when I need a tuneup just by the feel of it and my Check light has never come on.
My check engine light was on for about a month. Recently turned off and still is off
Maybe your computer thought you are not gonna fix it, so just shut it off 😂😂
@@jasmeetsingh6978 just kill it bro 😹😹😹
Hey , is your car check engine light set now ?? What was the problem happen with it can you plz tell?
My check engine light has never lit up while driving until last week for a brief moment, did it again yesterday so I got worried BUT after watching this video I feel relieved
Scotty, your popularity is now stronger than ever. Fun, informative and to the point. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks!
Scotty Kilmer, you are a perfect CZcams personality. Like a throwback to 70s sitcom tv. ❤️
Most common cause is usually a faulty O2 sensor. I never knew the check engine light would flash if you had a serious problem.
flashing generally involves some kind of mis-firing situaton
Stephen R very true , my 1999 ford expedition Check engine light came on die to a misfire in cylinder 4 . It was a bad coil .
It wants to get your attention
I had that same problem with my 2017 Chevy Malibu 2 days ago. As soon as my engine light came on, I went to a mechanic shop and got the code P2096 for bad O2 sensor. I couldn't get it fixed that day because all the repair shops were full. The next day I started my car and the engine light wasn't even on. I was more shocked than happy to see that but hopefully it stays off.
@@dwizzle810 i hope it cleared it. My engine light turns on after they plug in the scanner. And my smog is due so need to fix it soon
Mine has been going on and off for the last 60k miles. It’s just my o2 sensor.
I love this channel!
me too
Hi Scotty. I have enjoyed your videos for years now, and I hope you continue with them for years to come!!!
I've been to every Auto Zone in town and none of the men at any of them gave me any of this info. Thank you!! Off of This one video I got all the info. I needed. Thanks again for sharing!!
You are so old school it's awesome Scotty!
I always watch Scotty's videos. Always.
Ring the bell and run like hell!
Goes from "in paradise" to "out of the trunk of a car" and then ringing a bell in the snow. Scotty, are you a magician?
This started occurring with my 2006 Pontiac Montana after filling up at Costco. I want to blame the Costco gas but I did plug in my code reader to see it's P0171. I panicked and told my mechanic but then the check engine light went off. My mechanic gave basically the same explanation as Scotty. Yet now the check engine light came back on again. It's annoying because the van is running fine. I love Scotty's videos. He reminds me of my late father who was a damn good mechanic. Thanks Scotty!
Thanks Scotty
My check engine light comes on and off as well for being a 18 year old car.
You're awesome 👍😸
Did your car pass emissions like that?
i don’t know anything about cars but i enjoy watching your videos because you’re hilarious to me
My check engine light just went off. I was gonna get it looked at anyway, but may not bother now as the light is still off. You have saved me money. Thank you 👍
Scotty gave me the best info for someone who knows nothing about cars on video. Others can learn from Scotty on how to talk to Non mechanics about car issues.,
Your videos that are even 5 years old helps people even now ❤ wish you were here in India
Thanks a lot Scotty you're a good man and great mechanic who loves his job.. I highly appreciate your generosity, giving us a great amount of your time to share your experience.
If I was a King I would've assigned you as the minister of transportation.
thanks for the support!
Very timely video. Bought a '03 camry last week... after my child filled the gas tank the cel came on. Had it scanned at parts store thinking that it was a " small evap leak"... and it was. Put the cap back on... properly... and the cel eventually went out.
Your video confirms what I thought was going on.
Thank you Scotty!
holidayhouse03 also he could of overfilled the tank, and usually it goes off after a day unless its a very cold day.
holidayhouse03...... same happened to GF 06escape. Code indicated the same problem, evap. Added a can of seafoam, light went out during the next drive. 2 mths later code was for cat converter. Another can, light went out and has stayed out since. Now a can goes in every 3 mths.
Just passing it on and hope it saves someone some mula.
"keep the faith people, and keep on keeping on"
Hopefully she didn't. She's been told about the perils of topping off the tank. And now she been told about the need to properly secure the gas cap. She was raised on 30 year old redblock volvos.... this camry is a bit more sensitive than a redblock.
Thanks.
Thanks J.S.
check engine light on , humming sound , sounds like it's coming from fuse box when engine is switch off, now days later car switching off while driving
The ending reminds me of Michigan so much..one minute it is paradise, the next, there's snow on the ground.
Nice explanation, Another thing is disconnect the battery before you change any sensors, if you forget to disconnect the battery you may end up with an ecu that ignores the sensor you disconnected and reconnected, easy fix though disconnect battery for 10mins or so for the keep alive memory then reconnect the battery , usually works.
closertothetruth try volkswagen touareg 5 cylinder diesel engine
Laurence Lee Roceta id be too afraid, maybe exclude all euro cars LOL
I don't want to be "that guy", the one that comes in and disagrees with people, but fuck it I will. That's some pretty bad advice you gave. Disconnecting the battery for any length on most modern fuel injected cars will clear the ECU's stored info and AF maps. If I disconnect the battery for 5 seconds on my 2004 Tacoma, it clears everything and the ECU has to relearn it all over a period of weeks of regular city and highway driving before it has passed all self tests and is ready for emissions testing. It drives like shit too since it has to relearn everything. I've replaced sensors such as o2 sensors and recently the MAF sensor and never disconnected the battery. I do what the manufacturer says to do as part of the procedures and no deviation.
What will have to be done for any vehicle in the state of Washington to pass emissions is to clear the MIL code before going to emissions and let the ECU cycle through everything and pass its self tests.
Tim Nelson good info, I was just following a Gregory service repair manual they all say remove battery first. and what a service tech told me, after two cars I disconnected O2 sensors and they ran like shit and I had check eng light for O2, so the service tech said remove battery for 10 mins after that both cars ran fine forevermore, maybe you just need to remove sensors quite some time after you turn you're eng off.
closertothetruth oh ok, makes sense 🙄
Thank you! Got gas last Wednesday -engine light came on for the first time in 3 years (2017 Jetta 😟😤) had a due appt for oil change they checked the car with the computer thingy 😀 found out it was P068A code- road my car out of the dealer ship drove the gas out went to my regular gas station and the light went off- gonna ride some more tomorrow to see if it was the gas- but my dad did tell me to never go to that gas station the gas is like "water"- I learned my lesson. And you proved his point. Cars are sensitive. I do love my Jetta tho- but thanks for making this video so my dad can send it to me and caption it "I told ya so" 🎯 thx
this dude is hilarious. You really lighten up my day - keep up the great work
A few days ago the CEL came on on my 05 Civic as soon as I started it. I just unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and so far it hasn't come on. I think there could've been a misfire which set off the CEL.
You're such good fun Scotty - you brighten up my day! Keep up the great work. Are all Texans as crazy as you? 😂
My mom's type 141 Fiat Panda E2 had a MIL on when you went over 54 MPH, replaced the O2 sensor, worked like a charm!
I really should get a scanner great investment
Get a decent one!
Yes they are
If you have an android phone you can get a really cheap setup that almost as good as a shops! Total cost around 20 bucks! Two apps are forscan and torque. You can get a cheap Ob2 Bluetooth adapter off of eBay for 5 to 10 bucks...
I have an iPhone but that is a good idea looking into ones that connect to a phone
Maybe 40 bucks for one that just extracts the codes, and just google them. I've done enough technician work to know P0303 is a misfire in cylinder.. (googles) cylinder 3
I love this guy. I want him to be my doctor in the future who tells me I have only a year to live and I will be ok with it
Scotty you are" that guy". It's funny in my natural intuition. I had a feelin what you said about the gas in this video was the problem before I watched. What a kool confirmatio ....Subscribed!! Cheers!
Quality as usual Scotty! Hello from England.
Hello!
A simple personal tip: make sure the gas cap is closed tightly. I once had the sign on, freaked out, but figured out that it was due to loose gas cap. If the light stays after you drive about 50 miles with gas cap tightly closed, then go see a mechanic.
No car on Earth gets as many check lights as mine. If there was a Guinness Book of Records category for this I'd have my name in it and never have the record broken !
Mercedes? jk
Nope. :o)
Make and model?
Australian V6 Mitsubishi 380. In the U.S. it would be a Galant, 05 to 08.
Ellesmere Wildwood - buy a dodge if you want the light always on. I always say. If there’s no light something ain’t right.
Hey Scotty 🇨🇦
2013 Cadillac ATS 2.OT. Engine light comes on every couple of days then goes off. When the light is off all seems great, but when it comes on it seems to idle a little rough. But when it goes back off all is fine again. I’d love to hear your initial thoughts 💭 ✌🏻
Oh mines is doing this now. 05 Saturn Vue v6 what was wrong with yours???
Did you find out what was wrong?
This content is gold .
Great advice as usual Scotty! My 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible had the CEL come on while I was on a trip in Massachusetts back in 2014 (I live outside Dallas). Luckily for me, Chrysler setup the computer to do a "key dance" to get the codes and I did that. Turns out the computer itself was having memory issues in it's "temp space" area. No change in the running status of the car. I drove it back to Texas a couple weeks later, no issues and didn't end up replacing the computer (only way to "fix" it) until 2015.
When the engine light is on call Scotty!
Thanks for the clarification. I thought pepto bismal down the intake fixed a bad afr. Now I know it doesn’t. :)
That really doesn't help if your car has to be inspected.
Tnx for the advice! My mini 2013 engine lights on during 4000 elevation- then go off after to turn off when u stop
One dislike from someone who doesn't own a car
jaromecgreen or someone who ownes a vw golf mk3😜
jaromecgreen or someone need a scanner thats in Scotty hand lol
I found on my X5 M that the engine light went on and then off. I took my scanner, and it didn't find any codes at all. A few days later, it stayed on for a few days, so took my obd2 scanner, and found a code of cylinder 6 misfire. It would run rough, then after restarting the car, was fine. I cleared the code, and added a a half liter of injector cleaner. It has been running fine for a week. I'm assuming if there was a problem with the coil or spark plug, it would just continually misfire, and not start running fine after engine restart?
pepto bismol! lmao! Scotty, you have an addictive personality, and I always look forward to your videos. if I ever make it to Houston, I would like to stop by and have a beer with you and talk cars.
How to turn off check engine light: *Tap the dashboard* 😂
Armour Shooter or use duct tape.
Or black electrical tape.
lmaooo i forgot he said that 1 time lmao
I used the black tape method on my old Kia Sportage after a lady I my car pool kept freaking out.
Remove the negative head of the battery for 5 minutes then fasten it again
It wil turn off...
I'm always using your videos...they help and save alot of money thanks scotty
If the check engine light goes off, the code may still be stored as a "confirmed" code, which means that there was a problem for at least two consecutive "drive cycles", I believe. Depending on the nature of the problem, it shouldn't just be ignored. For example, an intermittent transmission problem that causes the transmission to go into "limp" mode can exhibit this check engine light behavior, but the transmission should still be serviced if you don't want to be stuck far from home in 3rd gear!
(btw - I learned this after purchasing the Blue Driver scanner recommended by Scotty in another video. Great product!)
*life's a glitch*
Thanks, Scotty. My Saturn SC2 does the intermittent flash. I'll treat the car like Terry Labonte once said when interviewed about the high tech in racing: "You're still gonna run it 'til it blows."
Hi Scotty
I have a 2000 Chevy Astro van with an ongoing, intermittent SES light issue. No one can figure this out, and I've spent literally thousands of dollars paying mechanics, and I still have the misfire code. The code that came up when I first started addressing the problem was P0300, random misfire. Then I went through a lot of money where I was advised to do the following things, and had them done:
Sadler’s Work:
• MAF cleaned
• PCV valve replaced
• Plug wires, cap and rotor and spark plugs
• Throttle body cleaned
• New fuel filter and gasket, fuel rail cleaning x 2, BG fuel system additive
• BG EPR treatment to remove carbon
• Rear main seal done
• New gas cap
• Engine oil filler cap replaced
Dealer work:
• New fuel pump
• Water pump, thermostat and serpentine belt replaced; when the dealer did this job, they said they replaced a lot of hoses
• Rear end work: pinion gear and rear axle seals
• CPS and its wiring harness replaced
Other shop work:
• Fuel Injection Spider replaced
• Manifold gasket - when the shop did the (water) leaking manifold gasket, they said they replaced a lot of vacuum lines.
• MFI upgrade to replace the poppet valve assembly, and they replaced the plenum gasket when this was done
• Resealed differential with new plate and seal
Muffler shop:
• Catalytic Converter replaced
Other work:
• Person I bought the van from stated they replaced the alternator right before the sale
• Had all deferred maintenance done at 107K miles when I bought it
•
Then in reading in the Astro-Safari forums, these things were the common fixes mentioned that I have not done yet:
• Distributor problems appear over and over in the forums as the reason for random misfire: distributor timing off/needs adjustment, camshaft position sensor inside the distributor going bad, distributor drive gear worn, hairline crack in distributor drive body, defective new parts etc.
• Vacuum leak at intake manifold or? smoke test?
• Wiring issues: sometimes a wire where the insulation has worn off can be grounding and triggering DTCs. Some people reported they found the wiring loom worn/insulation worn off on wiring inside the doghouse and replacing some of these wires fixed their problem.
• ECM: If fuel, vacuum and spark have been eliminated, it could be an ECM failure of some kind. How can that be tested?
• Dealer in Arizona said it was the EGR valve where a small piece of carbon gets stuck in the valve and triggers a DTC…others in the forums have also reported cleaning the EGR valve and replacing with the screened gasket fixed the misfire code issue
• Some people said it was a switch on the transmission
• Cracked spark plug when being installed
I STILL HAVE THE SES LIGHT COMING ON...but now the code is P0304, #4 cylinder.........I am distraught at the idea of a valve job at $2500+...
The BG EPR treatment was run at 1500rpm for a half hour, then 1700rpm for another 20 min, then 1750rpm for another ten minutes. Then the oil was changed and it came out black, indicating a lot of carbon was cleaned out. Given that I run synthetic oil and it is always still pretty clean when I change it at 5K miles, coming out black (I thought) was a good sign.
I can't afford to keep giving these mechanics thousands of dollars, and still have the problem.
What do you think?
Man paradise has some crazy weather, it’s nice and sunny one minute and cold and snowy the next.
Thankyou mr. Dale Gribble😂
Something about the guy’s format, I fuckin love it lol. That’s for all your help!
Great video Scotty - Same kinda thing happened to my 2005 Audi A3, where the EPC light came on as i drove the car. The car ran poorly and couldn't rev the engine over 1500 rpm. I decided to turn the car off and then turn it back on, and now the problem is gone. Hooked up the VCDS scan tool and it told me that the computer, controlling the throttle body has a intermittent malfunction. A new throttle body with control unit from Audi where i live in Denmark is almost 900 dollars, which is crazy for a 1.6 liter engine, so i may have to buy a aftermarket one for like 300 instead. But hey, now two weeks later, the car still runs fine, so probably don't want to do anything about it now till it gets serious. Just another example ;)
Did you clean the IAC?
No, but the car did idle and run normally before the problem happened. And i forgot to tell that it could not rev over 1500 rpm because the car went into limp mode. I tried to re-calibrate the throttle position to see if that could fix the problem. It could re-calibrate but the code p1388 is still shown and i can't delete it. The throttle body wasn't dirty.
Ring Ring 😂. OK I loved the video and you are awesome.
So my car check engine light goes on for awhile then off, and repeats that sequence pretty much how you described the last part of the video as in chalking it up as a glitch. Well so I have a glitch of my inmyhead haha.😂 .I drive a 90 Miata and took it to a shop to have them check the computer but they couldn't because the computer was and is not working properly and needs more intensive testing. Any ideas? Really hoping it's a glitch.
Thank you so much Scotty you are the number one
Cool vid. Was that Jamaica? I know way off topic. 😁
As usual Scotty, great video!
Scotty is the man
I have a question for you and I’m asking you because you seem like an honest guy that would tell me the truth I have a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 and I have an evap leak and gives me couple codes po442, po456 and po455 how can I deal with that? Oh an it say gross leak idk what to do
Scotty is driving my favorite car... The Lexus SC430 its a tank! Never had problems with mine.
The engine check light has flashed intermittently, particularly when accelerating onto the freeway. It does not occur when revving the engine in neutral. The vehicle is a 2002 Toyota Solara V6. I suspect a sticking injector may be the issue. Previously, I received a P0301 code, but it cleared after replacing an ignition coil and adding Sea Foam to the fuel. During that time, the check engine light would blink upon acceleration and then remain steadily lit. I've heard that other things can cause the same issue, so I didn't want to change the injector yet. I just need it to pass smog in CA.
Very informative scotty.
Thanks for the video
My CEL has been on for about 7 years. Last summer, it turned off for about 5 minutes and came back on again. Can't be that important.
My car has done 100k miles with the CEL on :D
lucky basterd .
Why would you say I haven't scanned a code in 7 years?
I bought one of those Cheapo code scanners on ebay for a few bucks. They connect via Bluetooth to your phone and even give you a link to the problem description
I've found that seasonal gas changes....i.e., summer to winter formulation changes, will often trigger a check engine light to come on. It goes away in a day.
Hi Scotty, thanks for all the great advice and information. I have a 2015 Sorrento, engine failed and replaced for free by KIA. The CE came on, scan says Crank sensor, I replaced it, light went off. A week later, light back on, scan says crank sensor, i buy another, before I can change it out, light off again. The entire time, car runs exactly same, idles great, accelerates normally. Light off and on, randomly. What the hell could it be?
Scotty love your stuff. how about this one for 6 months no check engine light 3 failed emission tests. Hyundai service or parts no knowledge there? Ground CPU good.. disconnect battery 2 minutes all that done too.? Going bananas, Steve thanks Scotty
As we would say in California, this video was fire 🔥!
Enjoy Paradise Scotty 😀
Scotty thanks for your video u are the best.
It’s happened today to my car while i started driving suddenly i gave a full gas to my car for a short time then the check engine comes on and after 10 minutes its turned off, if anyone know please help me if its okay or if i should go to mechanics
Wow what an amazing video, very informative. Thank you
Love the bell ringing ending
Scotty, question: my check engine light triggers when I use the AC or heater for a extended period of time. What can this mean?
Thanks Scotty
I only have a flashing check engine light when i accelerate (sometimes)... Anybody knows why? The vehicle is shaking/stutering when it happens too. Thank you.
Love the videos, Keep em coming.
Scotty - why did I not check your channel first??? This happened to me, and I was scared I had a bad lifter starting on my crap GMC AFM system or something. Looking back, it happened right before the change oil alert came on, so I bet it was just the system flagging it before it through the alert. At least I hope so.
