@Forrest Robles oh honey....he absolutely did
@Forrest Robles Relax it's half a page and the rest of the book is awesome.
@Forrest Robles Oh yeah definitely. There are so many awesome scenes in the book that cant be put movies because of time. The only way to truly show the awesomeness of the book is if it became a full fledged TV series.
Best comment.
Yeah that was... gross
*_"Return to the 90's version of what the movie's 80's were, the 50's!"_*
Can we take a moment to appreciate that?
Seriously haha! maybe the vacuum that was 90s -y2k will blend together and be remembered like that in future media
“Return to the 90’s version of what the movies 80’s were: the 50’s, a time when cops were Irish, the bullies were murderers and the fat kids were skinny” I just watched Stand by Me and this is so true 😂👌🏼
Seriously though, thanks for remembering Jonathan Brandis. He had a lot of promise.
Sad to say that he joined the 27 club.
Yes
so sad what happened to him. Its even sadder when we think about the Hollywood child pedo scandal. I really hope that never happened to him. He was so talented.
Oh man, this makes Stan’s suicide a lot worse
Time to google a name.....
“When the fat kids were skinny”
So true
Ben was clearly chubby, but not really fat like todays american kids
Took the words right out of my mouth. That kid was husky at best. I remember the kid Rerun from What's Happening (I think that's it) and he was constantly being picked on for being fat. Kid wasn't even big by today's standards.
I didn't understand that one.
XShrike implying fat kids are fatter now
michelleprieur1 Rerun was fat
Tim curry looks like he's having fun in this series.
If Tim curry is having fun..... WE are having fun.
you should see him in Muppet treasure island
Playing Pennywise is probably fun.
@@yelloweyesazazel9491 that's pennywise without the makeup though. But man can he sing a tune.
aHA! aHA! aHA!
That part about Jonathan Brandis really got me man. The feels... :'(
Same
So sad he wasn't given the chance he deserved. I'm tearing up. RIP Jonathan.
RIP Jonathan Brandis, he was a great child actor and 90’s heartthrob
Thanks for the Jonathan Brandis appreciation. He was a good actor. :(
So true. Such a talent, gone too soon from the world.
Yeah, that made me tear up a little.
Sidekicks is still one of my favs
@@thatlpman9546 I LOVED sidekicks, lol. It was just so good. :)
just searched it and he hanged himself while 27. what the fuck Jonathan.
Considering the restrictions of doing a horror movie on 1990 network television, It was awesome and Tim Curry was outstanding.
Definitely one of the better King miniseries from that era. Langoliers was utter garbage. There was also one where a green glowy thing landed in the woods (naturally) and people became possessed or something. Tommyknockers I think. I was awful
Yeah, IT (1990) was good, especially part 1. I even think Tim Curry was better than Bill Skarsgard. He was fantastic and he could not rely on Special Effects and a great cinematography to make his appearance creepier but he still totally nailed it
Exactly, this and the stand are incredibly faithful considering the restraints they had
Well, it was basically Tim Curry channeling some of that Freddy Krueger. Back then acting was all about persona, and actors like Curry really knew how to steal the show. Skarsgard is a really interesting Pennywise in his own right; I honestly don't think either one is better or worse than the other, just different. First one is held back by some really hammy acting and painfully limited special effects, the second one is held back by LOUD NOISES AND THINGS MOVE REAL FAST.
I just hope that in Chapter 2, they'll give us a movie that isn't held back by those kinds of constraints, cause the second Pennywise could have been a LOT more scary if the editing wasn't so amateurish. American directors don't seem to understand how far subtlety can actually take you in horror. Asian films are almost just as handicapped as the 90s It was in terms of their budget, but they're legitimately terrifying to watch.
@@TKe-wf2to Tim Curry is a force of nature, but I think Bill has done a good job making this version his own
That scene with Jonathan Brandis was so good, glad for the acknowledgement.
Thank you for the little Jonathan Brandis moment. It is so sad that he is gone.
Can we all just appreciate that when he said “Scott” he said it in Dr Evil’s voice lol 😂
1AgentTex lmao I caught that
That's the joke.

R.I.P John Ritter
Harry Anderson
Jonathan Brandis.
❤️❤️💖💖
@Madeline Harper John Ritter passed away in 2003, from heart problems.
@Madeline Harper If my memory serves me correctly, I believe he died in 2003. It happened on the set of the tv show Eight Simple Rules. I remember babysitting my sister's children at that time, and it was one of our favourite tv shows.
@Madeline Harper You are correct, he was the dad. They brought in James Garner(R.I.P.) and David Spade as new family member's, but it never really recovered from when he passed away.
@Madeline Harper it was initially diagnosed as that, but then it was discovered he had a tear in his aorta. He died during corrective surgery, age 54.
Jonathan Brandis was amazing and is still missed. Rest in peace
Watching this in 2020, and suddenly "face touchin'" is the scariest part.
...and group hugging *shudder*!
RIP you two 💀💀
I was terrified of Tim Curry’s Pennywise when I was a child. The movie may have terrible production values, but, Curry is always amazing.

This comment was so good i actually laughed out loud. You just earned a sub!

M@d props for Brandis appreciation, him and River Phoenix were super talented and tragic end to short lives....
Also kudos for simply saying Scott, LoL 😂
Jonathan Brandis in Seaquest was my childhood, props for the moment of respect guys. A beautiful human with enormous talent, gone far too soon.
He also did that adorable Karate Kid knock-off. Such a talented kid. I wish he’d gotten some help.
RIP Jonathan Brandis. It’s been so many years since your passing but I’ll alway remember you as my first Hollywood crush. You were a superstar even if you didn’t feel you were.
I was a little too old to crush on him but I remember saying at the time that if I’d been a decade younger I would have had posters of him all over my bedroom.
I had a crush on him, too, and my friend teased me about it (if I married him my name, Candice Brandis, would have rhymed).
Thank you for the Jonathan Brandis shoutout, he was a damn good actor
No word on how Seth Green fears werewolves in IT and then becomes a werewolf in Buffy?
I thought the same thing!
Karma is a bitch.
"Scott" in Dr Evil's voice cracked me up way more than it probably should have.
Same man

Not helped that it was followed by a long sincere statement.
Zip it!
R.I.P. Jonathan Brandis, John Ritter, and Harry Anderson (the judge from Night Court). 🙏🏽
Wait... the judge from Night Court is dead? 😨

LillyianPuppy I was shocked. I didn't find out until a few years after it happened. It makes me angry that he would do that.
A bunch of other people already said this but your shout out to Brandis was wonderful to see. I went from liking him as a kid because I thought he was cute to growing older and realizing what a great actor he was.
huge props for the Jonathan Brandis shout out. He was fantastic in this movie.
I properly chuckled at Scott! Love that you gave a moment to Jonathan Brandis - RIP
the kid actor parts on this were actually really good. They had some of the better kid actors of that period in time. Same for the new IT-also really really great kid actors. The adult actor parts were a mess though
Tim curry to this movie was Robin Williams to Aladdin.
that's a good way to put it
The difference is that Aladdin was a good movie
Only the Robin Williams parts was good
@@mandm7950 Wrong. The original IT was also good. Much better than the millennial trash version that all you people know about.
@@mandm7950 you cant compare the 2 so easily, look up budgets and filming time and you will understand why it is a great movie. a decent meal made with week old leftovers is more impressive then great meal made with the freshest and finest ingredients.
Tim Curry acting the shit out of this character !!! i love how for real scary he was in this, always will

MovieCore ok good im not the only one who thinks he sounds like Pooh
Not even one, "Goodnight, John Boy." For the old people. How could you?
"He's basically Logan Paul in clown face"
Sooooo Logan Paul?
Use to see my cousin watch this film, it was pretty scary for me , but nowadays while Pennywise was still pretty freaky the movie is insanely goofy.
The chapter 2 first part is creative horror with characters you can relate to them but when to see adults acting like the adults in the second part you can't stand them really
I honestly can't wait for IT Chapter two to come out also can't wait for joker watched the Steven universe movie last night it was so good made me cry
pretty good for a made for tv movie thair aired in primetime though
Like Freddy Kruger
"He is basically Logan Paul in clown face!" lmao
feels like people will want to bashs him rather than kill him. lol
This feels like a good segue to the most iconic horror movie of the 80's, Flash Gordon
"I don't see what the big deal is! This happens every time I get my Panda Express on!"
The miniseries scared the crap out of me as a kid, but I rewatched recently and it really is so goofy. I give the actors credit though- sometimes they are really trying. John Ritter absolutely cracked me up with his "Damnit Bev, is that you in there or the clown?" Hilarious!
Lost it at Dr. Evil's "Scott" 😂
Seriously I saw this when I was 10 years old. Still enjoy watching it nearly 30 years later.
Staying with the Tim Curry theme, you should do Clue.
How dare you compare the legend that is Tim Curry with that trash Logan Paul
That fucking hack's name even being in the same *sentence* as Dr Franknfurter himself is a disrespect.

Right that what I was thinking lol
I love that whoever wrote this wasn't watching back in 1990. It was great and honestly the 2nd part is less scary because trying to kill kids is way scarier that adults.
I think "Logan Paul in clown face" perfectly encapsulates the horror this series bequeathed upon me as a child.
i think it perfectly captures the horror that is Logan Paul!
Speaking of Stephen King, Do The Shawshank Redemption for its 25th anniversary.
I support that
Such an underrated masterpiece, I'll love for them to review it.
@@007Julie underrated? you joking, right? please tell me you are!
@@MrGenexxx isnt it critically acclaimed and on a lot of critics top10 movies of all time list?
I've been suggesting that one for ages. Hell yeah.
OMFG, thank you so much, i have been looking for the langoliers movie for a very long time, i saw it when i was a kid, and never could remember anything from it not the plot or anythng, i just remembered people being stuck on the past, i could never find it until now.
As penance for missing John-Boy you should do an honest trailer for The Waltons!
He specifically mentioned "people under 30" and said "meet them" so anyone under 30 wouldn't have seen The Waltons. I'm pushing 40 and I've never seen that show, though I do know he played John-Boy. The joke was introducing these seasoned actors to young people, so it had to be a reference they'd recognize (they could have used The Americans).
I'm 28, British and grew up watching The Walton's and have friends my age who did too! What a classic
You missed the only thing anyone ever talked about which was that it's John-Boy in a horror film.
Tim Curry was the best part of that movie.
Honestly, he was really the ONLY good part of that movie as far as I'm concerned.
@Brandon Spain *Pedant
Not nearly enough Tim Curry appreciation.
To be fair, there usually isn't enough Time Curry appreciation. He does an awesome job with every role he gets!...even if one of those roles includes the creeper priest from Scary Movie 2...
Am I the only one who thinks that 1990 IT was way scarier and better than 2017 IT? Come on, the only real advantage of the new version was the budget. Not the story.
Ehhh..I think the 1990 version of IT is decent overall and is hated on too much sometimes considering it was such a low budget made for TV miniseries/movie but the 2nd half (the "adult half") was just so bad. The 1st half when they are kids is pretty damn good..it has great atmosphere and a scary tone. So, when you combine the two halves, you get a solidly mediocre or decent at best movie. Tim Curry was great as Pennywise though.
With the IT Chapter One (2017) and IT Chapter Two (2019), you get two really good movies. The acting was top notch in these two IT films and much much MUCH better than the acting in the 1990 version. The writing, while not the greatest in these two new films, is still good overall and way better than the 1990 version has. You get more character development and character and story arcs in these two new films as well. I'd say that overall, the two new films are more faithful to the book as well. And while Tim Curry was great as Pennywise performance/acting wise, Bill Skarsgard is flat out better as Pennywise..and Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise is more faithful to the book version of Pennywise.
If I was grading all three movie versions and the book...
1.) IT Chapter One (2017) - B+ (I do think this film is overrated by most people though which is why I gave it a B+...it would have got a B or maybe even a B- if not for Chapter Two tying up it's loose ends.)
2.) IT Chapter Two (2019) - A- (I thought this film was better than Chapter One and that it even made Chapter One a better and more complete film. Seriously an underrated film in terms of the "critics".)
IT (1990) - C (I already explained why I would give it that grade above.)
The IT book/novel - A+ (A true masterpiece even with it's weird parts.)
Nope, the remake was rather disappointing
@@NinaJansen13 Especially Chapter Two. I began watching it and barely got halfway through and then rewound and saw glimpses of something happening near the end but nothing grabbed my attention.
Jonathan Brandis was such a good actor. RIP
R.I.P. Jonathan Brandis, great talent that shouldn't have left us.
“Mac The Night”. God bless you sir.
Not the point, but I became really emotional seeing Harry Anderson, Jonathan Brandis, and John Ritter. I'm Generation X, and they were all a part of my pop culture life!
Same here. Shit, Jonathan Brandis even made that movie Sidekicks relatable for me
Agreed!
I loved John Ritter so much
Jonathan Brandis and Tatiana Ali were my Justin and Selena or whatever couple the teenagers ship 😆
Tim Curry as Pennywise made me swear of clowns to this very day!
I swear, his Pennywise made a whole generation say "Nope. Nuh-uh" to clowns. Then we passed it on to our kids, lol. He may have single-handedly killed the clown industry.
Now in the times of Corona "face touching" and "group hugging" is actually the real horror!! *shudder*.
John-boy from The Waltons!
Derry stories to tell in the dark is brilliant 🤣

Yup

A big AMEN
Had VHS of this film, when I was child. Was the scariest horror film for me. Re-watched it at least 7 times. Had nightmares yet still watched more. Great film
As bad as part two was, Tim Curry knocked it out of the park!
Hey, that was John Boy Walton. He doesn't deserve to be one of "These Guy". Also, he's Venus Flytrap, or possibly Downtown Brown, before being the dad from Sister, Sister.

Couldn't believe they missed the John Boy reference. Golden opportunity missed. But hey, they are from California.
@@moneybalz My fave will always be "Turkeys Away".
Lol, I had a complete senior moment, because I'm way over 30 and totally forgot about Venus Flytrap; I was thinking, "Frank from 'Frank's Place'"
I loved this movie when I was 13. Jonathan Brandis was the best.
I have a friend that watched IT as a child and is now terrified of clowns and Tim Curry... So whenever we go out drinking I borrow his phone during the evening change his homescreen to Pennywise and watch him scream like a little girl when he tries to call a taxi at the end of the night.
The dad from "Sister, Sister"? That's Venus Flytrap, thank you very much.

Thanks for making me laugh at how this movie kept me up for a week! 🤣🤣 Looking back it was so not scary
I wish the executives at Warner Bros had the guts to put a ponytail tied with a shoestring on James McAvoy
The Dead Zone (1983) directed by Cronenberg is a really good Stephen King adaption IMHO
John Boy Walton deserves more than being lumped in with "these guys"
Young Beverly is played by the actress who plays Becky on Supernatural. Not a big name, but my mind was blown when I realized it.
While Skarsgard did a really good job, I dislike the costume design of the new Pennywise. In the book and the original mini series ITs' clown form was meant to attract children, draw them close until it is time for Pennywise to strike. He is supposed to look harmless. The new Pennywise looks just over the top evil.
They also overdid it with the sound effects in the 2017 version. But overall I enjoyed it.
Schlachti10 very true, they understood that Pennywise was not supposed to be just a monster with big teeth running after you.
Which is kinda funny, when you think about it, because the vast majority of kids are terrified of clowns.
They did that because they know even a "nice looking" clown would still not attract kids. So why not make him bat shit scary.
You just watched nostalgia critic's review if it 2017 didn't you
The new movie actually has him wearing the books costume. The tv movie was dumbed down to be less scary.
"We all float down here"
-Pennywise
I never realised untill the rescent movie he meant it litteraly.
wow a lot of interesting choices for this can't wait for the commentary tomorrow
Okay, the intro is one of the best ever for this~
I actually preferred the original IT films, they scared you with psychology rather than effects.
Absolutely! The TV series may had miss the mark with the adaptation has a whole, but has a horror/terror feature it has his moments. The new films feel more like an action movie instead
Diego Graciano yeah I enjoyed the new film but I comparison to the novel, the mini series was more unsettling. The 2017 film felt like The Goonies meets Stranger Things.
For a two-part mini-series to have such a lasting impact and to scar a whole generation is a tremendous feat. Though we joke about the comedic parts now, Tim Curry's Pennywise was absolutely terrifying. Skarsgård ain't bad, but his CGI-augmented version just cannot compare. That sewer scene was laughable.
They really didn't scare much AT ALL though... especially the 2nd half.
I mean it's hard to blame them though, as they were released on a regular broadcast network during a time the FCC was way more conservative, so you couldn't get away with much. Combined with the low budget, it's more of a guilty pleasure than actual good movie.
@@Dagarar What in the world were you watching? The 2017 film was NOTHING like an action movie... Running from a Clown trying to kill them equals "action?" Just because it had better effects since it didn't have a cheap 90's TV budget, doesn't mean it was anywhere close to an action movie.
Classy with the Brandis tribute 👍🏾
In the fortune cookie scene, I never understood why grown up Eddie actively kept opening the cookie while screaming. I'd just have put it down.
Hey, I'm under 30 and grew up on Three's Company and Night Court, thank you very much! XD John Ritter and Harry Anderson are a big part of the reason I even go back and watch this miniseries - Tim Curry, too, of course.
