what kills me is i know Viz isnt jumping at starting to do that past the obvs choices like DBZ and FMA but i would kill for Dark Horse to put out the same size/style deluxe that Berserk and Hellsing got for Trigun, since they still have the license as far as i can tell and it just started a new series

My first introduction to Manga/Anime was Ghost in the Shell. Via the free demo that came with Spyro the Dragon for the PS1. Very strange but cool concept/art style to fresh eyes. How time flies.

Yeah you kind of have to read this 3x first read it with the notes but some of those you can kind of skim and not read literally every word. Then read it without the notes. Then the third time you read it, take even longer to read every word of every note.

I have no idea how many care about this, but I think I knew what happened. Original scanning could be like 300 DPI at the size. To increase the physical size, they would have to drop the dpi to 250 dpi. (Dots per inch) Fewer dots, less clear image.
Also, this could be they combine flies but the printer didn't change the paper setting. Depending on the paper means it needs more or less ink. Not sure, but this helps me decide which version to get. Thanks, Omar

Always have the best detailed knowledge for collectors Omar your enthusiasm is unsurpassed. After watching so many manga review channels HOW is it possible Battle Angel Alita never appears in top lists hell nobody even mentions it . I have the six hardcovers I bought two years ago haven’t opened them because I’m fearful of a high let down James Cameron’s Battle Angel Alita film is one for the ages !!!! First time I saw it it didn’t click but then during lock down re-release it JUST ROCKED MY WORLD!!! Would love to have you review Battle Angel Alita it doesn’t make sense why it’s so neglected in the manga community?

I don't think the manga are neglected at all. Acknowledged classic that just about everyone would say is one of the best of the 90s.

I can see the difference in colors but for the scans I think you needed to zoom in a little more kus from this distance I couldn't really make out a change
Dark Horse would make adjustments to the color portions of Ghost in the Shell that differ from the original work, they did it for the two Monkey King volumes by Terada as well. Dark Horse's second Print of GitS is still the best version in English. Since moving to Kodansha the image quality has degraded every time, compounded with poor paper choice. Blurry and muddy.
The highest, most beautifully perfect printing of 1 and 2 are in the Solid Box set. The clarity is pristine. It will spoil every other version for you, it looks like it was drawn and painted right on the page. The paper changes if it's a colored page so it's suitable brilliant. Man Machine Interface benefits from that a lot! They are nearly as big as these new deluxe editions. 2 is the "Short Cut" version, which is unfinished, the box set was made as an apology for it not being finished yet, but it includes many scrapped drawings and pages and there is copious amounts of cum. 1 isn't censored either. Kind sad that scanning from a Solid Box copy might garner better results. I don't know what happened. If the art from the first two were shot on film, it could have degraded. But digital scans? Maybe degradation from being re-compressed over and over.
When I recommend the series to friends I make sure they experience the Dark Horse versions. Being flipped is a small flaw when the quality is the best and 1 is uncensored, which, as you said, is actually very interesting and filled with world building ideas that I think are useful and fun.
I'm really happy to hear you give excited praise to the art in Man Machine Interface. There's very little like it. One of my favorite eras of Shirow. If only it was as good to read as it was to look at!

Number 1 would have to be Lone Wolf and cub. It is criminal that goseki kojimas art is scrunched so tiny in those pocket editions. The 3 in 1s aren't much better either.
Thanks for the video! : ) Is the paper quality really that bad on the compiled edition? I'm thinking about buying it or the deluxe separate editions ... First option is 100 and the second is 145 Bulgarian levs ... It would be my first ever manga. : )
I'll put up with a word being changed here or there but I won't buy something that has full pages removed. And it's not even because I really want to see those pages, it just makes it incomplete.

Read GITS a few years ago… one of those cases where the animated versions of the property are WAAAAAAY better than the source material

In Poland we didn't get the manga until 2003 (at least ours had the "naughty bits") and the anime on DVD until 2005 (there was a TV release in the 90s, but it was on a premium network).

This is great. My one complaint about the box set is it's hard for me to figure out which book to start with, since there's no volume numbers.
What are the extra pages in the box set?
Translated sound effects and footnotes. The deluxe includes them on the relevant page so reprinting them in the back would be redundant

@@amorbavian there isn't a wrong answer tbh. Box set has nicer paper quality so is technically better but I prefer having the footnotes readily accessible. Get whichever you find cheaper
