  • How To Scan Your Art and Make Greeting Cards at Home
Today I will show you how I scan my art to make greeting cards.
I am using an Epson Perfection v19 scanner
    Paint Shop Pro 12 software
HP Photosmart D7360 printer (Discontinued but still works great!)
    Matte photo paper
A2 greeting card bulk packs from Micheal's Craft Stores ($5 a 60 pack last year)
    ATG adhesive (double sided tape)

My God girl, is there anything you don't know! Fabulous idea Lindsay and such a beautiful card! I am not an artist...basically just a card maker/stamper but I think it could also be a useful tool to mass produce cards that I create. As always, thanks for sharing Lindsay...you rock girl!

Great video Lindsay! 😆 Thomas asked yesterday in the live how you would do this. There are just to many steps for me to explain in chat. lol 😉 In photoshop there is merge and merge flat (two separate choices). For those out there, if you plan on using the card file over and over, save a version before you merge any layers. In doing this you can move things around and change the text. Once you merge you can't alter the file. If you have a very detailed image you can also save as a TIF to preserve the image better and if you have a bunch of text PNG keeps the text cleaner.

Lol Grace...I just happened to know photoshop which has similar functions and Lindsay mentioned it. 😆 If it would have been a completely different program I would have no idea.

Corel Paint Shop X2 for the win :D I've been using this photo editor software for about 10 years and I LOVE IT, I won't even do an upgrade to a newer version. Because I"m afraid I won't like it! it's a million times easier to use than Adobe Photoshop or any of it's elements!

These are great instructions, and super helpful at this busy time of year. Thanks, Lindsey! We just want to point out that it is absolutely NOT ok to do this process with your stamped greeting cards. Most stamp manufacturers are pretty flexible with how you use their images if you hand stamp every one (look for their Angel Policies on their websites) but they absolutely forbid ever mechanically or digitally or electronically reproducing their artwork. Please be sure that you respect the Angel Policies of different companies if you plan to stamp your Christmas cards. And Happy Holidays!!

Hey Lindsey!! This is so much easier to do than what I used to do...paint each individual card!!! Lol !! And I never started painting until December and then my family and friends where lucky if they got their cards on Christmas Eve!! Of course this was a very long time ago...way before making your own cards was so popular!! I sure enjoyed making them though...each card was different also!! Thanks for sharing Lindsey!! Thank goodness we have computers, scanners and printers!! Now if I can only figure out how to do this on the computer...the cards still may not make it until Christmas Eve!! Lol

Lindsay, regarding your trimmer: Fiskars has a paper trimmer called SureCut that's similar to the one you used. It has the clear bar with a wire guideline to show you where your cut will be made. I have the one that's a 9" cut length and is portable (it has holes to be stored in a 3 ring binder) and I love it, but there is also a larger 12" model. There's even a scoring blade you can get for it that turns the trimmer into a card scorer as well. I got mine at Michaels here in Canada so I'm sure the Michaels in the US would also sell them. www2.fiskars.com/Products/Crafting-and-Sewing/Paper-Trimmers/SureCut-Card-Making-Paper-Trimmer-9

Lindsay thanks for the tutorial! I painted several little pieces to use for making Christmas cards this way! Such perfect timing :D I've had to double scan and overlay some of them to get rid of the paper texture but it's mostly the same process. I wanted to try using embossing powder with dip pen calligraphy over the top of them but I can't get the ink to work right - any tips? I'm using versamark refill ink and thinning it down with a little water and adding a touch of watercolor so it's not completely clear. It's not flowing quite right off the nib but if I add more water it bleeds on the paper... Thanks!
