Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Before the track “Money Ain’t A Thang and CashMoneyRecords” HipHop was all lyricism and beats. Big, JayZ, Jermaine Dipree and Southern style of HipHop watered down the genre. Not all the south acts. I remember thinking, after watching money ain’t a video. It ain’t about lyrics and beats. Just rap about money now.

@@daboe-xm9yr I don't think, you can separate him, he was signed to Bad Boy and had those Champagne and party theme, Puffy and Bad boy spearheaded that superficial rap genre and big was Puffy's cash cow, on top of that, most of Bigs fans were not fans of Hip hop. I'm not saying he wasn't good but in my opinion his place in history is ushering in that new sound and approach. Along with Jay and Rockafella

Buck has dropped some science and he makes a LOT of SENSE, which is RARE these days! I, myself have wondered what happened to the Roc? What is the point of having a label where you are the biggest star and the only projects of note are YOURS? IMHO, Jay should have followed the Motown approach, Berry Gordy made sure ALL his artists were polished! He even had classes on how to do interviews! Then when their album dropped they'd be ready. He GROOMED his people because they repped HIM! Not saying the Roc had no talent but what I am saying is Jay didn't know what to do with it. I agree with Buck, I would NEVER sell off my baby that I spent time and money creating! That is an inheritance for my GREAT grandkids!
