Whether if that judge meant as a joke or not, it was unprofessional and irrelevant to the singing and the show itself. As a judge/panelists, use your expertise to challenge and encourage people not put them down about their physical looks. I truly enjoy going to events like this and I love being a part of this Asian community but that comment was disgusting and uncalled for.
Went to Taste of Asia and saw these performances live. Really disappointed in the judges… body shaming contestants who are there to sing, perform, and entertain the crowd. Judges are meant to critique the performance. The unnecessary remarks on losing weight was highly unprofessional. Honestly, that judge loses credibility for me for not being able to be professional. It wasn’t funny. It went from fun to disappointing. If this is what you want to promote as Asian culture and perpetuate body shaming, then I guess you are doing well judges. Disgusting. I felt true disappointment and shame that the Asian community, my community, not only does this in our own households, now we are promoting on a stage that this is a Taste of Asia and how Asians are. Embarrassing. The performances were great breaking the ice with the crowd, making us feel like a part of the performance and giving us energy. The judges need to do better or organizers need to find better.
