    Hey! I got into waterloo for cs this year and I'm super excited!!! I just came across your channel and it's super helpful! I had one question, i'm having a little trouble in deciding my co-op sequence and I'm confused between seq 2 and 4. I'm considering them because seq 2 has study terms in the fall and winter during which most advanced cs and math courses are available and on the other hand seq 4 has like 3 study terms together in the start before the first work term ao I'll get some time to lay the academic foundation i guess. I have very little coding experience (in python and sql). So what do you recommend and in which sequence are you?
    Hope to see you in campus this fall !

    • @MaryamAfshar
      @MaryamAfshar  Před 3 lety +5

      hey congrats!! Glad my content is helpful :) I had trouble deciding my sequence too but I chose seq 4 because the competition for co-op is a bit less and it gave me more time to get my resume ready. but tbh burnout is real esp after 3 consecutive school terms

    • @MaryamAfshar
      @MaryamAfshar  Před 3 lety +6

      In my opinion, yes it is worth it! In school, they teach a lot of theories where as coop allows you to get the hands on experience in the workforce. You can also try different fields and see what you like best, this way you are prepared for full time work after graduation.

      @@kaitlingibbs8291 It's a lot of things really. Some of them might seem silly, like the climate (Waterloo has a remarkable ability to be overcast for 6-8 months at a time and also being damp AND freezing cold. Believe me, it wears on you.). Generally the student population has very little affinity for the university; partly I think it's because of the co-op program...students are often there for less than 4 months at a time. People develop strong affiliations with people in their program and 'stream' and no one else. Also, it's a labour camp; I wasn't expecting animal house but I'd expect SOME balance of study and 'life' but there's little of that. And generally I found the attitude of the employees and the administrators to be very exasperating...almost as though the students existed for their sake, not the other way around. The non-teaching staff in particular were actually pretty awful; you never got the feeling they wanted to make the campus a nice, safe place for students.
