Ahh another person who believes “high drive” dogs need the e-collar.
He should go to a k9 police class in the Netherlands (a country where e-collars and prong collars are banned) and see how they train their dogs.
Not to mention the American trainers Matt Folsom, Nino Drowaert and Denise Fenzi who do bite sports on a high level without using pain.
This person is ignorant, training high drive dogs CAN be done without a shock collar, he just doesn’t know (or care) how.

Here in Germany tools like choke chain, prong and e-collar are forbidden by law and yet we have police and military dogs as well as Schutzhund (IGP) and those dog are just as hyper and well trsined as those of the people who think it can't be done otherwise

A note about German Shepherds: they are sensitive and smart, and loyal, and eager to please.
Because they are so sensitive, any kind of physically painful “corrections” will break the trust bond. 😢
By sensitive, I mean several things. They are emotionally sensitive, and tune in with their human. They are sensitive to what we want. They get their feelings hurt if their human isn’t kind to them.
That dog is not going to trust that person.

Totally agree, I love the spirit a German shepherd has for their human, it's so sad to see that being taken advantage of 😞

I absolutely understand the frustration when a dog can't or doesn't want to focus. When we started dog school with our pup, she was 6 months old, we were still figuring out what motivated her because nothing seemed to. It's incredibly annoying when you as a handler are learning how to teach the dog and they don't give a flying fuck, they just want to chase butterflies. Our relationship with the dog suffered, our relationship with each other suffered. It was a very hard period. BUT... It was us. It's never the dog. The frustration is in the handler, the handler has to deal with those emotions.
I was not going to hurt the dog, and when we were told to "pop" the flat collar (not really pop, just sort of tap?), and it didn't work, and we tapped harder and harder, and it never worked, it was time to find new ways because it was so stressful for everyone involved. I talked to a trainer who was familiar with our breed, and her advice worked wonders. I was so out of my mind that I just put all my faith in her method, and went with the flow.
An ecollar would have killed the soul in our dog, I'm sure of it. She doesn't care to cooperate with people, it's not in her genes. So when she CHOOSES to, it's an incredible feeling still. It makes me so much prouder because I know that I didn't force her, I didn't "motivate" her with fear or pain. I don't think a person with an e-collar or prong collar knows that feeling.

I'm so glad you were able to find someone to help you with your pup!! I know the feeling of being beyond frustrated, so I give you all a lot of credit for working through it and listening to your fur baby! 🐺❤️

Thanks so much for reviewing my suggestion! He has a dog named Gage which he takes to schutzhund completions and those ribbons are all he cares about, He's also said that when he's looking for new breeding dogs buy, no matter their skill and ribbons, he won't ever take one that has been trained purely positive because then they aren't "spicy" enough and will have puppies who are too sensitive.
The scary part about trainers like this is that he usually layers this abuse with some solid good advice and create an audience of yes-men, for example a little while ago he made a video on finding your dog's favorite way to play ball.

I just scrolled through his videos, and noticed that Gage is the father of an unplanned litter. 🤦🏼‍♀️
