Alternative title: Horses experience Uncanny Valley
I don't get it...
@@sunsetmoon6099 eye-
@@silverseen8300 I still don't get it....
@@sunsetmoon6099 uncanny valley is where something looks human but isn't human, kinda like the polar express, and in this video it's a horses version
@@silverseen8300 Ok, thank you. I kinda feel like I ruined the joke cuz I didn't get it...so sorry.
As a horse trainer, I'm extremely impressed..Moves almost identical to a living horse, especially the head movements..So bizarre to watch.
I agree , the handlers have obviously studied the subtle movements & mannerisms of horses, and how they might interact with humans & other horses.
Коняхи в шоке!
Yeah, it looks like the head puppeteer is trying to calm it down, not like he's moving it.
I know right!? My horse would destroy it 😂
I was more impressed with the real horses, lol. Their reactions were so good, it shows how much work went into them. I know some horses that would have seen that thing and hightailed it faster than it takes to kick up dust. I also know another that might have tried to challenge it... poor guy thinks he's a stud.
It's endlessly fascinating to me that people react to it in the same way as the horses. You have the horses being like «yeah thats vaguely horse-like, im gonna treat it like a horse i guess» and people being like «yeah that's definitely three people in a horse costume, im gonna treat it like a horse i guess»
what costume?
@@kingatrzeciak8442 I found the horse
i only see 3 horses there
That kind of explains why I go to Disneyland so often despite me being 31 years old
Russet Malenski LMAO YOU FOUND THE HORSE
The reactions from the living horses are very cute, but no one’s talking about how fucking incredible the puppet is! The dynamics and design of it are just stunning!
no ones talking about how that poor horse that's moving its head opening its mouth and having some thin line of bit dragged up into its mouth is while the other is just like what's up with you today?....basically I'm sad that that horse had to get its face ripped off by its rider and the other rider actually had some experience and didn't pull on the reins unnecessarily while the horse was calmly standing there...
the artwoolf yeah, I noticed that too. The horse was almost being choked by the bit and it made me sad, but there’s nothing you can really do about it. There’s always people who either don’t know they’re doing something that’s harming the animal or they know they’re doing it and continue anyway. That’s how it is with everything.
Bad word girl .......... But I like it
LunatheAldwyn ikr
Life puppeteers are so cool, so realistic it's like being alive in motion. Masters at studying the art of motion, I applaud their techniques truly. When real horses respond to them like another horse you've got something accomplished there in authentic replication, a captured realism.
Walking with Dinosaurs was an awesome exhibition also. All you Artist great work!!! 👏👌👍🖒👊
when they first touched noses everyone was like awww and the horses were like WTF IS THIS!!!??
I thought the same thing!
my_jumping_connie AHAHAHAHAAHAAH 100% true!
Ma jampi
my_jumping_connie it was good
my_jumping_connie lol
This is fascinating.
I love how the real horses actually get confused by it.
"Is it a horse? Is it not a horse? If it's a horse, what's wrong with it?? What happened to it? D: "
MultiRaRa2 no they're like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!!!!!!"
I bet the wire horse hits their uncanny valley.
To be honest, horses sometimes think windvanes are real horses. Or they freak out when they see a shetland pony or a mini.
Shetland pony's are a terror! One time there were shetland pony's in the paddock next to where I was training my horse and one of the pony's made a snorting sound.... My horse feared for his life and ran off with me on him! XD Nothing bad happened and I managed to stay on him, but man! Not that I disagree with him because shetland pony's are little devils! :P
The Horse IS just trying to talk with the 'puppet' because they think It is a Real horse.Real Horse talking look like this with head and ear movement
Horse: who are u
Mecha horse: I’m u, *but stronger*
LOL hardly hahaha
"I'm you but three people"
Wellllllllll... weaker, but still I get where you're coming from haha
*Silently gets rid of the 666 with my own like and rolls away cause am such cringe for mentioning this-*
You mean weaker.
It’s crazy how humans are able to do this by just studying the behaviour of horses. They genuinely confused the providential horses.
Hoe ben jij letterlijk overal🤣🤣
0
And yet the communication of the fake horse's body language is all wrong. They're mimicking the idle movements, but not the "talk" that horses do with their bodies. Plus it smells wrong, so the Providential horses were weirded out by it.
Yeah, I think the only way they knew it wasn’t a real horse was the smell and touch.
Anne Haight yeah, obviously. I don’t think anybody here legitimately believes the horses thought it was a real one, they were just confused by something they looks like a horse but doesn’t feel, smell or communicate like one.
So, im not gonna lie, but Red is kinda sus..
Red Horse was The Impostor.
0 Impostors remain.

@Yolanda DeRizzio - Sounds like you have a long career ahead of you in law enforcement
Nah, it’s the brown one with the white socks and the diamond

The 2 horses are like "this is a horse?!?!?"
Omg yes, the two horses are like " Dude, just go with the flow ok, the new guy could be offended, I mean, he's RED not chestnut, R E D, as in the human color RED."
They're called "sheriff horses"
Imagine seeing a red wire framed human waking up to you, to greet you.
ChittyChittyBangBang! Better yet imagine it being controlled by a bunch of horses
@@daphne8029 ah yes, how could I forget?
Real horses: "YOU HAVE SKINNED HIM! YOU MONSTERS!"
Imagine being the live horses, realizing there are humans inside them as well as on top!
No matter how many times I see this I imagine the horses thinking “You okay there buddy? Your ribs are showing!” 😅😅😅 Kudos to the puppeteers, they have the horse movements down to the letter!
Stay safe all and go hug your fur babies 💙🐱💙
The horses will tell their kids thats what happens to them if they don’t eat their greens
Underrated comment 😂
Congratulations @Charlotte's Rubbish animations! You have won a free helicopter ride over the mountains of Chile!
Thats hilarious 🤣
Joey the Warhorse is magnificent, deeply moving. The choices for the puppeteers' clothes are perfect
I remember watching the War Horse show and it was absolutely incredible. What still astounds me is the way the puppeteers all move together, like they all think and breathe like one single horse.
Little Aussie Poodle ll
8 weeks worth of conditioning and discipline gives puppeteering its magic
Those puppeteers are extremely talented!!!!!! Though it's kinda disappointing to know that Joey wasn't a real horse... But those police horses were hilarious!!!
How would they have a real horse on stage every night for a performance it's like saying "i'm disappointed that the Hannibal Elephant wasn't real in The Phantom of the Opera"
{Sorry if this came out as rude it wasn't supposed to be rude}
I think Dobbin was referring to the film. Joey was played by 14 different (real) horses there.
Joey was in the movie I believe this is what they used in the play.
This is what they use in the stage Play, called War Horse, in War horse the movie from 2011 they used real horses
The movements are so life like. I'm not an expert on horses but I have been around them enough times to notice all those little things they do, all the reactions of the puppet. Like when the horse went to nip its hind, it immediately moved away. I think that is so cool, these are proper professionals and its a testament to how good they are at their jobs that the horses were fooled by this
LOL they're like Um...wtf is that ? My horse would have jumped 20ft in the air and woulda been gone!
They're like this looks like a horse.... moves like a horse.... but something isnt quite right here haha
omg same xD
LOL
same xd I ride ottbs and one stallion :/ that would be mess xdd
6 years ago how’s that horse doing :D
That was amazing ! The horses were really interacting with Joey, Bravo the puppeteers, Joey is a credit to you !
This STILL so absolutely Amazing that your mind can know it is a puppet but still see it as a real creature
All around the world, there have been groups of puppeteers who have learned how to project a horse to the world. Unbelievably brilliant people operating amazingly designed puppets.
The horses thought he was a horse, then they were like : Are you a horse? You're not sniffing back though... What's wrong with you?
I've grown up around horses, and I can honestly say this is mind-blowing. All those subtle little twitches, jerks and steps match exactly how a horse moves and interacts with other things. I can't imagine how long these puppeteers studied horses to do this, because it is incredibly distinct. My horse is a 20-yeah-old Belgian. Nothing phases her. She probably would have glanced at it and walked away.
+Jesse Clark I know right! I'm a rider too, and when I was watching the play, the horse's movements are so realistic, it's creepy!
+Jesse Clark me too I've had a shetland who died of colic, an old mare, now I have my horse broody and I'm 17
lol the one horse was actually clacking its teeth at the puppet
Isn't that a sign of submission?
Yeah, young foals tend to clack their teeth at older herd members to show submissiveness
actually it's not look at the reins they are being pulled really hard.
the artwoolf there’s legit slack in the reins what do u mean LMAO
Actually horses are doing it when their stresslevels are rising or coming back to normal. To calm down themselves and others. I think that's the case in this clip, the horse is confused and getting worried about the situation.
I know these police horses are obviously exposed to a wide variety of noises & distractions to get the desensitized to the chaotic environment in which they must operate, but this was a unique situation,
It’s a horse, looks somewhat like a horse, doesn’t smell like a horse, but move like a horse.
I have good horses, that rarely spook at things, except chickens, have one that is deathly afraid anytime I get close to chickens or a chicken coop , but I would think , most of mine would have wanted to bolt when that thing walked out of the building.
We were on a large plantation ride down south many years ago, and came up to one of the historic museums that had a beautiful oversized stature of a stallion, it was a challenge for each rider to get their horse to even walk up to the larger than life steed.
Many bolted, wouldn’t get close, one of my horses, I was eventually able to get her up close, though she was noticeably nervous,
One of our other horses, had the opposite behavior, he was ready to fight this thing, had to keep him from trying to bite it...
He wasn’t intimidated in the least.
Every other horse: aw hell nah i ain't goin anywhere near that
Other horse: Look at this twenty foot monster. I'mma wrassle it.
So interesting to hear about your horses reactions to the monster stallion! It would gave made an interesting video, but you would have needed a camera man on the ground. It is understandable that monster size stallion frightened them, but I am surprised that they were fooled by the statue. But yeah, we are fooled by cardboard cut-outs in the shops hahhhaaa 😁😁😁
I'm more surprised about your horse that is scared of chickens. Usually people use chickens as companions to solo horses. Is there a back story to this, or is this just one of those quirky things? Are the chickens white? I know a lot of horses have issues with white things.
Horses spook at the weirdest of things. I rode this behemoth of a Percheron x Hannovarian for a while (17.3hh, around the 740 kilo mark). Fought a bus getting into his space, but was deathly afraid of butterflies. XD
actually so impressive that the actors replicate real horse behavior so well
This made me smile in a way I haven’t for a long time. Beautiful !
When art meets poetry.
Wow their movement's are incredible! It's very convincing! The horse looks amazing too!
That puppet is absolutely incredible! The coordination of the puppeteers is spot on. Really appreciate the mounted police coming to visit for this special interaction.
Doesn't take a lot of imagination to get your head into it, the puppeteering is superb.
Lol, they're like "what the heck is this? It doesn't smell right" :)
I remember the first horse I ever encountered. I was about 5 years old. The horse was pulling a cart. And I begged to be able to pet him. Still short I was about 3 foot tall. And he had to put his head way down so I could stroke his nose. I put a carrot on a flat package and he ate it and then I fed him by hand realizing he wouldn't hurt me. I'm only 4'9" and small in comparison and learned to ride a little. One horse used to actually joke with me. I never knew a horse could have humor. He knew I adored him so he was extra gentle until he decided he'd step on my foot and wouldn't back off until I asked him nicely to get off and he did. He never stood still for the bigger kids when they mounted up. But Rex knew I was smaller and had a longer way up as he was huge and he always stood still for me. He'd always lower his head for a cheek kiss.
the dark chestnut freaked out at first then spotted the human underneath..
Wow, that was awesome. They did an awesome job bringing the horse to life.
Amazing play! I saw it back in 2012 and one of the legs fell off of baby Joey during the performance. Everyone in the Theatre started laughing and even the puppeteers froze for a moment.
I wonder how you become a full body puppeteer...
I got the luckiest night of my life for my Graduation celebration. I was Homeschooled so I didn't have a big ceremony for graduation....I got to see War Horse with my parents at the Overture Center in Madison WI. Coming from a childhood of riding and owning horses, it took about 5 minutes watching Joey....and the puppeteers disappeared. It was a horse on stage, it was amazing. The time they took to watch horses move around and learn to mimic....its incredible. If I could, I'd see War Horse on stage in a heartbeat!
Could you imagine a bunch of mice making a human puppet so good that you just start talking to it, that’s what humans did to those horses.
Now that you mention it, I am starting to wonder if maybe I have met one or two "humans" of that kind.
Amazing... Both the Joey The War Horse, AND,... the 2 Mounted Horses. The puppeteers were VERY good, Very good body language,,,,,
*later that day*
Joey: you're never gonna believe it Chandler!
Ross: yeah yeah, it was INCREDIBLE!
Chandler: "what? what are you talking about?"
Joey: We saw a hoooorse
Ross: but it was magical horse!
Joey: yeah yeah it was like one of those mythical creatures my grandma told me about when i was a foal!"
Chandler: you sound like a fool what is this?
Ross: nooo it was real Chandleeeerrrr
Joey: it was...it was like an alien! it was AWESOME!"
Ross: Supernatural being are real I'm telling ya
Chandler: Are you on catnip or sugar again?
The puppet is just amazing. The little movements, reactions done by the puppeteers are so incredibly lifelike.
We saw the movie of the stage production and were blown away. I've worked with Bon Raku puppeteers who acted out ballads I was singing at the Renaissance Pleasure Faires in Novato and Ventura CA. The puppeteers wore all black and kept their faces expressionless. One took the head and one arm of the life-size puppet and one took the other arm. There is a hierarchy to who does what and puppeteers study for a very long time before they are able to take part. Warhorse was astounding. I've never seen anything like it.
the horse is probably like "dude you have humans in your body are you ok"
You know I'd love to take the time to remake something like this... But my oh my- can we talk about the bits in those horses' mouths? ;-;
awesome coordination of the three puppeteers ... and obviously even the real horses liked the impression ... even though they figured out it wasnt real they liked the impersonation.
That was...mind blowing how well you all did seriously major props to all of you
How is the the first time I’ve ever seen this video? So dope.
Police horse bridles are so pretty
They use ordinary bridles.
Awwwwwww the real horses gave their friendship! They greeted Joey so nicely, even gave him lip hugs!
I just can't stop marvelling about the incredibly amazing job those puppeteers did. Their movements are so spot-on horse-like, it's mind-blowing.
Aww i love this broadway show it was my favorite when they first performed in kansas city
I cried when I saw this
I wish this was reccomended to me 7 years ago!
What a great warhorse video.
Okay but like imagine a wireframe person walks out from a door and starts to greet you but it's actually controlled by a bunch of horses...
"There is an impostor among us"
I love the human responses. They can't help it. They KNOW Joey is a highly specified puppet... BUT... they ❤️ him just like he was real...? And the REAL horses were, well, they couldn't work him out. He looks like us but he doesn't smell like us... what IS he?
Magnificent. I love this. Can anyone tell me why a horse puppet can make me cry? Goes deeeeep.
Beautiful - down to incredible micro-details! Even real horses are foxed! The most exquisite puppet (and puppeteering) ever achieved! I took 50 kids, (13 - 15) to the UK National Theatre's preview in October 2007 - jaw-dropping!
The other horses: why can I see through him 👁👄👁
Horses: It's our god, Sleipnir!
😁😁😁👍👍👍💪
It’s so mesmerising watching how realistic the horse puppet is lol
I don’t know why this came up on my recommended...but I’m glad it did
they're like omg what is that!!! :D
HAhaha oooh my god the wild eyes on the chessy horse was too funny I love how he kept trying to play with it xDD haha
Imagine seeing three elves moving a vaguely human shaped collection of tree branches and vines, and walking up to you as though they are not there, gesturing hello to you with their human marionette...
Those horses were surprisingly calm...
i have had the presure of watching Warhorse in cinima. it was so amazing. you guys do such an fantastic job.
Must be the horses equivalent of the uncanny valley lol
Right horse: Dude that they took his skin and organs!
Left horse: Just do your job and you will be fine!
Those guys played the quintessential horse costume in high school drama and told each other, "This is what we want to do the rest of our lives but better."
That's a luxurious place. I like the feel of this place. What a good choice of an arts center.
"There is one impostor Among us"
I dunno Brown seem sus, Red is fine tho
"Hind puppeteer" is about the most job applicationy way to say "horse's ass"
Everyone is a gangsta till the horse tries to mount the puppet.
This level of puppetry is phenomenal.
*There is one impostor among us.*

that one horse at the end was like hey sally I see you in their! you don't fool me!
Wow just wow. Amazing how life like the movements are, incredible. And I love the curiosity of the Providence Mounted Command horse, great expression.
Did the three horses become to friends??
"why have they skinned you, brother?"
Aww I love seeing the little horse cogs in their head turn as they try and understand what they're looking at
that is some amazing puppeteer work!
the real horses: he’s a bit different but that’s okay :)
The real horses: something doesn’t seem right..
Y'all are a bunch of naysayers.
Every time I see Joey, I forget he is a puppet. He becomes real to me. His actions and mannerisms are spot on horse like!
Amazing how they move the 'horse'. We have ponies and I just see their movement in this. Absolutely amazing.
I thought it was so cute that they were submissive chewing to Joey.
My horse wold have launched me into the air and run off to high heaven 😂
Emma Jean ... Mine too. That or try to bite a big chunk out of its rump and then take off like the devil was after it... Mind you he did used to be a racehorse.
Every time this puppet comes into my feed i get feels... The way they built it and make it interact, it's a whole other level of artistic. I highly suggest to those of you just finding this now, look up the ted talk. Cool stuff.
I've worked with horses for many years and this is SO realistic in its movements. It's easy to ignore the puppeteers.
He's smells funny.
Ya ya, cute video, but just look at the real horses. Every time the cop puts pressure on the reins, you can see the horse flinch and that it's in pain...because of the bit. If you don't believe me that the bit is hurting this horse, then just look up RaleighLink14. You'll understand.
Edit: Disclaimer: I'm not trying to hate at all, I just wanted to point this out.
Harmony Hill Please don’t get you info of a CZcamsr who thinks she knows everything. They are giving contact to the horses mouth. If you ever took lessons of learned how to ride you would understand that there should always be a straight line from the horses mouth to your hand. excuse my english I don’t speak well.
The horses aren't in pain. A proper bit doesn't hurt the horse. The first few times having a bit in their mouth while their young feel very weird to them, but they get used to it.
The puppet horse's face is just a little too short in relation to its body's proportions. But, otherwise, it's a superb and fascinating creation!
This is so incredibly beautiful. I love this so much. ❤
it would be cooler if the horse was robotic and had its own personality idk i think so anyone agree?? :D
+Karen Jensen not possible, the weight requirements for all the equipment would reduce its mobility and wouldn't allow the smooth fluid movements that it being a simple frame allows it to do.
Bongo2k
I know but it would be cooler i think
Anna, look up Boston Dynamics robots on YT. They are incredible, but creepy.
No.
Will someone please by me that horse.
I will not tolerate any profane, personal attacks on anyone. If you cannot comment like an adult and/or choose to dislike in a mature manner, I will not hesitate to delete your post!
i shall by the horse

i'll by you a book about it
+DeAnn Young I ride and own REAL horses how bout dat

I am happy for you and slightly envious. But if I had this particular horse, I would not have to worry about mucking out the stalls, grooming, vet bills, feed, and acres of space. Not to mention going around the field picking up horse droppings. Send me pictures of your horse(s). Only if you want though. Or you can simply tell me what breed they are.

Do not forget punctuation. Maybe you should bUy that book for yourself. Hmm?
+DeAnn Young it's a halflinger XD. sorry if I sounded rude
Is anyone else getting this in their recommended 7 years later?
it’s funny to see how the people in the crowd when getting the chance to pet the horse even treat it with compassion, i think the main thing is the movements of the head, they’re so spot on.
