    I feel like Nintendo has alienated a significant portion of Zelda fans with their recent titles. The franchise is always doing something new and different but that comes at the cost of disappointing long time fans. Subverting expectations is not always such a good thing. My two favorite Zelda games are Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.

    • @56ty_
      @56ty_ Před měsícem +8

      Not sure you know this but botw alone outsold all the ‘traditional’ Zeldas combined.
      This ‘alienating fans’ narrative needs to stop. If anything they’re making tons and tons of new fans.

    • @1234_Flux

      @@56ty_ I never said they aren't making tons of money and tons of new fans. The sales of open world Zelda is not lost on me. I was referring to older fans that grew up with classic Zelda and linear Zelda. My point is Nintendo don't care for older fans of the franchise that have expressed displeasure with modern Zelda. The fact is BotW would not exist if it were not for all the games that came before.

    • @56ty_
      @56ty_ Před měsícem

      @@1234_Flux I see what you’re saying but I don’t think they go about it that way. They’re just trying to make great games for everybody.
      Aonuma said it recently, this is the type of game they’ve always aspired to create.
      And I’m sure they’ll take fan feedback into consideration for the next ones.

      @@56ty_ this is a disingenuous argument IMO, the gaming market was not the same back during any of those releases, gaming is bigger and more mainstream than ever and is still growing, and plenty of the new zeldas were sold on hardware that wasn't as popular as the switch too. And BOTW also sold well because it was 100% new for the series, but it's not anymore so I don't think extrapolating it's success should be done too much

      Eh, with the upcoming movie and all - it's inevitable now, really. It's reaching a point where Link's silence is becoming a major distraction and detriment in the games anyway; it was particularly immersion-breaking in BoTW and TotK with how emotionless he was in those two titles. Not to mention BoTW was the first 3D game in the series that removed naming conventions for Link, and Princess Zelda practically writes-out his personality & struggles for us to read in her journal entries anyway. It's like Nintendo themselves are tired of sticking to this stale tradition and simply want to move on.

    The Wii U tech demo is my favorite artstyle for Zelda yet, and I really wish we got a game that looks as good as that. I also really loved the N64 remakes and how they captured the stylized graphics with more clarity. Those are my favorite styles.
    As for Link having spoken lines, I didn't care either way, I'm just tired of him not having any character at all. Age of Calamity made me love Wild Era Link because of how expressive he was, but in BOTW and TOTK, he's so emotionless in every scene. He's like a sociopath. Last time I checked, I reacted to things. He's not a self-insert in these games: he's a robot. My favorite interpretation of Link's character is Skyward Sword. Seeing his desperation to save his best friend was so endearing and I felt so connected to him. It's easily the most emotional version of Link and I was so connected to that story because of it.

    I personally want a much smaller map with the next game, but with more unique content. You could really feel the copy paste in the era of the wild games. Same with underwater exploration. Would it be really worth it if it'd be similar to th edepths, empty and copy pasted?

    Quite simply, take Link to a new location, either away from Hyrule, or expand the area, then give us the same open world and gameplay, but create 8-10 traditional style dungeons to discover and explore.
    Fans don’t want to go back to linear. But we do want traditional dungeons!

    Zelda was controllable in Spirit Tracks and Link between Worlds came in between Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild. Anyway, perhaps if they stuck with the Breath of the Wild Hyrule, they could show us the kingdom restored with Zelda as queen and married to Link and the game would involve their child.

    Need to find a middle ground between open world and linear. Need to irradicate voice acting. Get rid of breakable weapons as it removes the feeling of achievement when using items to reach certain areas. Remove the rubbish iPhone 'sheika slate'. Bring back the green tunic. DO not add another playable character.

    I by no means think this is realistic at all, but here are my hopes for the future
    Format: I really want a return to form here with a new 2d Zelda, but since I don't think that will happen beyond a side project probably ever again I would still love for it to feel very distinctly different from the BOTW formula that I wasn't a fan of. Let the world and plot have more structure, go back to items being a big reward that unlocks the world. I think they could expand on this concept by really focusing on making the dungeon items of the old formula be usefull beyond the dungeon they came from too. Another unrealistic dream of mine is that they go back and try some concepts from previous zelda games that didn't really work, what I want here is a spiritual successor to the DS games, which I'll get more into later but gameplay wise I'd love a vehicle to take me across the giant open world that's likely going to be in the next game (one REALLY cool concept would be an air ship). And please for the love of god make a decent and engaing story
    Art Style: I really do vibe with more cartoonish artstyles NGL and would really prefer something closer to wind waker but made for modern tech, but that's probably not going to happen. At the very least I hope they keep it cheerful and fun, a dark "lifeless" look really fits soul games but would suck so much joy out of Zelda for me.
    Characters: I really hope Zelda becomes playable, maybe somewhat similar to spirit tracks where she is with you the whole way but is more of an extention of the gameplay, not the same thing but twice where you just switch character. But playing Zelda seperated from Link could also be fun, maybe she escapes from Ganon herself and goes off on her own mini adventure and eventually meets up with Link? In general though I just want to see deeper character writing so I don't feel like this is just lifeless characters that only exist while they're on screen (like I did in breath of the wild.
    Voice Acting: Don't care about Link voice acting but I will say I've never really cared for the self insert protagonist thing in any media so I won't care if we lose it whatsoever.
    Setting: Something unique that hasn't been done in Zelda before would be my preference. One idea I've been kicking around my head is more victorian style with airships and floating islands, in general I've always like the more "high tech" things when they come up that zelda has had instead of just having standard fantasy setting all the time.

    Silent Main Characters in Movies has worked perfectly fine.
    Just watch the Movies of "A Silent Place" where People arw forced to be as quiet as possible in order to not get eaten by strange Primitive Alien Creatures who crashed on their planet in an asteroid and these cannot see so they have to orientate by sound.
    So seeing the View from the eyes of someone who is mute for some reason might Actually work.

    The live action Zelda makes me so nervous. They did great with Mario but as I've seen other people on here put, it's much more difficult. Zelda games can be from cute and adorable to darkly serious pr sometimes just silly. What type of movie would it be, more serious or more cute for a possible bigger audience? Would Link remain silent for most all the movie or not and if silent how can you get around it? BUT if Link does full on talk and have conversations, they need to contract it so the actor also must do the Link voice acting for the next art least two games. Then woowee.... casting. Who would be the perfect Link, Zelda or Ganon and would Link have a fairy around that just says, "WAIT.." "LISTEN..".. But Ganon really needs to be the villain. Of course. 😂

    I'm really shocked by this, I'm not an anime fan so seeing people playing BOTW, before I owned it was like damn, why can't they do an art style that looks "REAL".. but after playing BOTW, I LOVE the art style, probably more than it looking "REAL".. I just think it looks amazing and perfect for this series.. but the art style for this series is probably more broad than any other so guess we'll have to see what they do next. Regardless of graphics, ect. I just hope the next one has MANY LARGE dungeons with bad @$$ looking and challenging boss fights.

    I'd love if the next game keeps the best elements from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but adds to them in a new kind of setting, perhaps with elements of other games.
    Imagine if we got a game set on the ocean where you command a pirate ship, like in Assassin's Creed 4, and the entire ocean below is explorable as well, like Subnautica.
    And I want Link to have a voice. Please. It has been long overdue.

  • @besson3c

    I disagree with what you think the most important question is for the next Zelda game or the future of the franchise. I think the most important question is where the team can innovate.
    There have been concepts from Nintendo about the importance of innovation, and we have seen areas of innovation define each Zelda game. With Tears it was Ultrahand and to a lesser extent vertical exploration. With Breath it was an open world where you can go anywhere. With Skyward Sword it was bringing motion controls to the Zelda format.
    I think the categories you've laid out follow from this fundamental question, and the planning process starts here.
