The whole Dragon Roost Island being Zora's Domain thing is weird, especially since it matches up with Death Mountain perfectly with the cloud ring around the volcano's peak, the presence of bomb flowers, Valoo being a clear reference to Volvagia, and Dragon Roost Cavern being an homage to both Dodongo's Cavern and Death Mountain Crater from OoT.
My personal theory is that earlier in the game's development, the Gorons were supposed to inhabit Dragon Roost Island and the Rito would inhabit Greatfish Isle, but after the Greatfish Isle dungeon was scrapped they moved the Rito to DRI the Gorons were demoted to just being traveling merchants. It never really made sense to me why, if the Rito were evolved Zora, their guardian deity was Valoo rather than Jabun.

The only problem being the location of spectacle rock/island. In OOT spectacle rock was inside death mountain for some reason. I love Wind Waker's locations for the ambiguity of them, with them still being iconic.
On that front, in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Lurelin Village looks almost exactly like Outset Island in terms of its architecture and geography.
Also, I like the idea that the Forbidden Woods are the Kokiri Forest taken over by nature, and I also like to think that the Tower of the Gods is a precursor to the Sheikah and Zonai shrines.

    • @MuljoStpho
      @MuljoStpho Před 2 měsíci +2

TWW's mountaintop islands premise always seemed absurd to me given the design of OoT's map. (Or really given the designs of any previous maps in the series, aside from maybe AoL's map.) Because most previous map designs just didn't create super mountainous terrain. There would have been one peak to retreat to. Death Mountain. No others.
But now BotW kinda establishes a new canon within which all the old maps would have to be retconned as being mostly inaccurate anyway but it would provide enough mountainous terrain for something like TWW's premise to be somewhat more plausible. (Although even then I think a far more likely scenario than what TWW presented would be something where the dam holding in the vast reservoir near Zora's Domain breaks and all of that water rages down all the riverways and washes over most of the land throughout the field area of Hyrule. Mountain ranges exist in a ring almost all the way around that field area so they'd define the boundaries of whatever (shallow?) sea that could form from such a flood. Possible outlets to drain the flood waters if more comes out than seems to even be contained within the reservoir to begin with would be the Menoat River, Lanayru Bay, and perhaps even Tanagar Canyon.)
I mean, the Great Plateau is meant to be the walls and contents of OoT's Hyrule Castle Town (what BotW calls the "Eastern Abbey" is the ruins of OoT's castle) but the gate faces northeast now instead of facing south like OoT's map depicted it. BotW gave us ruins meant to resemble Lon Lon Ranch (however that would've survived countless tens of thousands of years) located roughly northeast from that gate consistent with how OoT had it located roughly south from the gate, and the Deku Tree is located further out in roughly that same direction as well. But then somehow OoT's map did get some things correct according to BotW's version of things despite this rotation of those few parts of OoT's story. Lake Hylia is true south. Gerudo Desert is true west. Death Mountain is true north. Zora's Domain is still (roughly) southeast of Death Mountain. The roads to get to those areas just aren't connected to the main field area in the same way that OoT depicted them. You'd turn right on your way out of the gate to head across the field towards the bridge that leads into the path that leads to the desert according to OoT, but the BotW canon is that you'd actually turn left and follow the plateau wall around until it turns a corner and you reach the multi-bridged pass that leads into the path that leads to the desert.
The main palace is also a whole thing. I've had the impression for years (though it might be more speculation and not so much supported by any significant evidence?) that TP's palace / capital city originally started out as TMC's castle and has existed as its own separate thing from OoT's castle the whole time. It should have been present during OoT's time but we just didn't see it there since it wasn't used in the story. Granted, TotK throws this into question since we're now meant to assume that so much time passes in between the older games and the backstories for BotW and TotK that all traces of the versions of Hyrule in the older games became myths and the kingdom ceased to exist and was forgotten for some time until TotK's Rauru and Sonia founded the newest version of it. The palace / capital city location in BotW / TotK clearly seems meant to be the same location as TP's palace / capital city, but I guess we are meant to assume that it got destroyed at some point in the mythical times and the TotK backstory version of the Imprisoning War by coincidence happened on that site and then a new palace was built on top of that site. And they just happened to mimic the same style as the long lost palace and capital city that used to be there?
And TP has its own map oddities anyway. Even before we saw BotW's version of things it's always seemed like the TP map got Death Mountain and Zora's Domain swapped from where they ought to be. In terms of BotW's map it seems that TP placed Zora's Domain in what we see in BotW as the flattest and most featureless part of the Hebra province, and it seems that TP placed Death Mountain right in the center of what we see in BotW as Zora's Domain. And putting a few things from TP in terms of BotW's layout it seems like in TP's time what we know in BotW as the Forest of Spirits (on the plateau) and the Forest of Spirits (east of the plateau) were blended together as one forest which bypassed the wall of the plateau. Also, what TP presented as a small wooden bridge over a narrow ravine that's on the way out of Ordon Village would actually be a massive downplay of passing over BotW's Lake Hylia bridge, and then Ordon Village would've been somewhere around what is the Highland Stable in BotW. And then what is TP's Lake Hylia? The positioning of it seems like maybe it'd line up with what we see in BotW as the Sage Temple Ruins, the shallow flooded area next to a part of the Regencia River.... Or perhaps something even closer to the palace than that, like the Quarry Ruins.
And at the end of it all even the BotW/TotK map could still be thrown out by some new game in the future anyway. With the sky islands premise touched upon in SS, TMC, TP, and TotK (some cases present some sort of technological mechanism and some cases present it as pure magic) there's no guarantee against map-changing shenanigans altering the landscape occasionally. Some forces somewhen deep within the massive gaps in time between games, just lifting random areas up as sky islands for whatever reasons or bringing random sky islands to the ground for whatever other reasons and having them end up somewhere that might be different from where they originated. Imagine a scenario where perhaps at some point Hyrule goes through some disaster on a similar level as Lorule's erosion into the abyss underlying the fabric of its reality, and perhaps in this hypothetical scenario the only way to save the land is to lift it all up and away from the corruption. Perhaps it's more a case of something like the Gloom or Malice on steroids absolutely flooding the TotK depths to the point that it's overflowing? (Not little puddles of the stuff on the ground. More like an ocean of the stuff.) Peeling all the land up exposes the depths to the light in an attempt to purify it? And then after everything's cleaned up, stuff gets brought back down to reassemble the surface world. But this series wouldn't even necessarily spell out such an explanation, they might just change things without explanation and leave it up to speculation whether there is an explanation or whether we just had incorrect information to begin with.
Oof, I tried to keep it short but rambled quite a bit anyway. Quite the messy subject here.

Outset Island is also one of the four locations marked on the map Tingle gives you after you bust him out of prison. What could he possibly want with your home island? Well, your island actually has something in common with one of the others, in that it is the home of a Great Fairy, and specifically, both of those Great Fairies are the ones that upgrade your wallet capacity. He wants you to "have deep pockets", as that one Fishman says, so you can pay for him to make your Triforce Charts become readable. (And, of course, the other two locations are Windfall Island and Tingle Island. After all, if you can't find him, you can't pay him, right?)
How many Zelda dungeons are dungeons according to the real-world definition, anyway? We have places like the Arbiter's Grounds and the Spirit Temple, of course, but WW's dungeons are mostly Temples. And a fortress. Some prison cells in the FF, one of which is where you're taken if spotted during the stealth portion and the other of which is where the long-eared girls are held, as well as in both Temples, which is where the new Sage is taken if (when, in the case of Makar) caught by a Floormaster. But nothing in WW is completely a prison.
BotW makes me wonder if Rito who come of age also had to shoot the dragon with an arrow to get a scale, or if it just scratched one of itself and handed it over, or what.
Let's see, what other interesting locations are there... I suppose maybe the aforementioned temples... the Cabana, of course... Mother and Child Isles... Diamond Steppe Island kind of suggests something happening...

For Hyrule castle, you didn’t really mention the lore of it outside of wind waker. Due to the castle being destroyed in OOT this castle is a new one built after the events of that game. The location appears to be lake hylia, which would make sense they’ve move it away from where Ganons castle had been. You can also tell its location with how the gerudo desert is next to it which is where Ganons tower is located.

Actually, in the timeline that WW takes place, Ganondorf wasn't given the chance to destroy the castle.
In the Adult Timeline, Link didn't return to the past and just disappeared, so when Ganondorf attacks the castle (in OoT, this is when Impa flees with Zelda) there would have been no plan and no hero to stop him like there is when Link does travel back. With no other choice, the Royal Family called on the Goddesses to help them and they flooded the land and froze Ganondorf's invasion in time, so the castle still stands.

@@echostwitt9648 respectfully you’re arguing with things that are known fact in Zelda lore. And there’s two possible explanations to your question. None of which are confirmed. 1: the king in oot made it out of Hyrule castle and was not killed by Ganondorf. 2: King Daphness from wind waker is a different king then the one from oot. We do not know how much time passes betwene the end of OOT and the great flooding happening. So if the King in oot was killed by Ganondorf. It would have be assumed King Daphness is the descendant of OOT Zelda. Either her son or grandson.

Tower of the Gods: speculation has it that the Timeshift stones are key behind Sheikah tech, hence the blue, and that Gohdan is a prototype Divine Beast. Notably, the circuit-like circular patterns on the walls resemble the constellation patterns seen in Wilds-era Sheikah-related locations/devices. Also, to note that there's no visible base to below the Tower, and that the portal is within the Tower's ring "courtyard," that it goes straight down into the Castle's inner fountain/garden, which would put it _on top_ of Hyrule Castle.... buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut: _Maz Koshia's Arena._

and here i was thinking wed actually hear about the "other" islands that are in the game, not the same ones EVERYONE talks about ALL THE TIME... cause thats where the people are. but i wanna know about the reef islands, or the ice/volcano islands, or the mini-golf island. those are far more interesting than the places with people because the people tell you what you want to know about the place (for the most part) so really all the "juicy" lore is just... there... in the game. this is under the assumption one can actually read. what is NOT in the game is the LORE on the OTHER 42 islands. kudos for covering the ghost ship as it isnt an "island". and technically, tower of gods isnt an island. and whilst being under the sea, hyrule castle is still "technically" an island. and before ANYONE says anything i KNOW the video is on famous locations. this is to test if anyone actually reads. the point, is that windwaker is full of islands that dont get talked about. the ones HG is covering in this vid is in fact the FAMOUS islands/locations, because, well... everyone talks about those since those are basically the "game". in a way this vid is just a recap of everywhere you MUST go in windwaker in order to beat it in a vanilla fashion.
all im sayin is, im ready for the NON-FAMOUS locations. and kudos to HG for beginning this video series!

  • @Bludvarg

The ridiculous pace at which the Zora and Kokiri changed pre-Wind Waker was always due to supernatural intervention; the gods flooded Hyrule and didn't want anybody (aside from the chosen hero that passes the trials of the Tower of the Gods, of course) going back there and undoing the seal (which clearly didn't need help being broken....those things NEVER last), so they changed the aquatic Zora into something that can no longer live in the water (this would also explain why they have to use a magic dragon scale to grow their wings, because it's not a natural mutation but a magically induced one), whereas the Kokiri were ALWAYS spirits and simply took a new form.
In contrast, the MAJOR time difference between BotW and everything else could also account for why there's Zora and Rito at the same time and why the Rito are more birdlike than like Hylians with a few bird features (a natural split and evolution this time, instead of divine intervention). As far as the Koroks go, it would seem the nut boy form is just overall a better fit for them than the Hylian child form (also I'm sure it's much more merchandisable from a real world, Nintendo business perspective).
Also of note is the fact that the Japanese typically use the term "evolution" in a broader sense, simply often just meaning "change, upgrade" and it almost never has anything to do with Darwinian evolution (for example, look at Pokemon). It's just one of those cultural differences that most people aren't aware of.
