7 hours ago. Love it.
I would! if I didn’t already pick up an SL3. 🥰
No
Don’t have the money but if I did maybe I would get thid
That webcam kicks ass! Holy.
yeah it could be a killer device for the right person! just with proper lighting and all!
Check out if u have no lighting. Its garbage.
Yeah not really and coming from an owner of this cam...
Wow, this is pretty freaking cool. Really love how in-depth your reviews/explanations are!
Finally, innovation in the webcam market.
So fed up of the same company monopolising it and not upgrading anything
The triple camera comparison shot for the outro was great!
"That's not even fair" The look on your face said it all. I can't wait to see your reaction when you use the software!
An awesome video as per usual, Harris. 😆 👍 👍
This is definitely going on my gear wishlist for sure.
Cheers to you, my man! 🍻
Yes I think I'll go with this camera after watching all your comparison vids... You almost had me convinced to get a GoPro... I've watched at least a dozen videos on different sites for the Logitech cams... DSLRs... You are the only one to mention this AVermedia. And you are right that it is fricking incredible looking. AND... it is now on Amazon new for just $179!! Less than a Brio!!
No contest. I'm getting this for my webcam. I play/stream (and record) live music mainly on my guitar and have been unhappy with latency and my strumming hand looking like it's in the Matrix movie... I knew I wanted a cam that would go up to 4K, or at least 60fps in 1080p... And your handful of vids mentioning and comparing this AVermedia camera helped make my decision.
Now... on Amazon, there are some tough reviews of this AVermedia cam. As there always are about every cam. But I try to read carefully. The one stars mention how AVermedia gets "grainy" in low light or anything but "professional" lighting. But with your knowledge of cameras and exposure, I am sure you would be able to find corrections for this?
Just wondering. Love your vids, even though I'm not a gamer, but a musician. Very helpful regardless on using OBS, and I'm definitely looking into your StreamBeats, as I've had portions of my FaceBook streams covered or blocked out because I was playing certain songs for background music before going live...
Anyway... thanks for all the knowledgable info!!
What a camera, what a video. Thank you Harris for sharing this, and Sam for editing it :D
Thanks for this Harris, suuuper helpful. I've been going back and forth about how to improve image quality for both at-home and at-work presence. So much of my interactions at work are based on that "awe factor". I'm doing the best I can with a ring light and logitech webcams, but this thing seems like it's worth it's weight in gold, and I'm pretty sure it was you that mentioned on twitter that the first company to make a truly GOOD webcam would make a killing. Hopefully Avermedia has set the tone for more innovation in the webcam market!!
A already bought a Sony a few months ago but still love these videos
Likewise.. If this had been released shortly after the model they didn't release i'd have gone with it, but they took too long and i now have a Camlink, A6000 & Sigma 16mm 1.4. Great that its finally an option for people though.
I just got an A5100 as well. We paid more, but the quality is still noticeably better as well as more versatile in use so I wouldn’t feel bad making that same purchase today
Literally yesterday I bought a used A5100 for just a little more than this webcam costs, plus the cost of a Camlink. If I'd seen this video before then I'd had have a lot of thinking to do.... At least now once my job has me traveling again I'll have a decent photo shooter to bring with me as well!
should i also get a sony a5100? need help :(
@@imapirateyarrr4508 how are you getting a5100 as a webcam? i've been trying and 1) can't get to a "display only" mode 2) looks much grainier than my a6300
My reaction when you turned on the Avermedia was just WOW O_O Thanks for great content, have a good one!
you have helped me so much. i have a great use for myself to have a avermedia cam. you just sold me on it. thanks man i appreciate you
I used a GoPro for a while when I was saving up for a traditional camera. I wish there had been a Webcam like this when I was first starting streaming. This is amazing. Although the GoPro was amazing in terms of video there were a lot of disconnect issues and other things that caused a lot of headaches. Also they overheat after a while.
Already have a camera, but Alpha Gaming videos are just the best :P
מה?
ממתי אתה צופה בו? בחיים לא ראיתי אותך בתגובות שלו
@@jomri I'm watching Alpha Gaming for around year and a half now
מה??
An alternative to lowering the brightness to help how washed the image is would be to go in and lower the exposure. Just ensure you have the lighting to compensate. And if you don’t, you can always raise the gain in that same “Configure Video” option to give it some more presence
exposure is more important than people think!
Thats what i was thinking! If hes saying its over exposed why isn't his first thought the exposure setting?
Yeah, I figured that's what that brightness setting kind of is, but I'm not sure.
I dont think webcams offer an adjustable exposure setting. Thats why Harris mentions you are stuck in terms of lens, ISO and aperture speed etc. 11:28
@@Chronor007 The old Logitech software for the C920 lets you adjust gain and exposure separately.
Consistently great content, thank you!
Months ago you mentioned that webcam technology has seemed to stall and none are as good as they ought to be. I was considering the Brio, but this is probably my next camera if I don't go DSLR. Thanks again Harris!
Very much appreciated, solid vid.
Okay, I guess I know what I'm getting somewhat early next year! :D
Thanks for that review and the extra tips for the settings.
Omg tell us more about the Alpha Gaming RGB logo.... that’s super cool
Probably really expensive tho... but still cool

maybe it will be this camera now. I have really seen a big difference here! great videos, man, good guy.
I know you preach the wide angle but this video and a few others from you actually sold me on the portrait view for streaming. Love the content
Thanks for the video I just purchased one was tired of streaming from my phone. Your videos rock
If gain is an option, turn that as far or all the way down before adjusting brightness if your image is overexposed.
Gain is basically amplifying the signal from the sensor, and introduces noise to the image, so it's better to turn it down first.
"This is the guy she told you not to worry about!" LMAO I freakin died man that was a great line. XD
Important note, the cable included is a usb 3.1 (big deal when you want high quality video streamed).
Also, the custom cable that you used, have you made sure it is a usb 3.1 cable as well?
Because if you didn't think about it and used usb 2.0 the quality is probably slightly squished and you could get an even better picture with 3.1.
The way you would know is if the type A end is blue or black.
Blue = 3.1
Black = 2.0
"Thats what she said". Love it. Sams editing is perfection on so many levels!
Yeah I had to see what it said.....kudos to Sam
Great video, I just ordered an MV7 USB mic from your link. Upgraded from a snowball I've been using for the last 2 years. Lol. Can't afford the stream cam now 😭 but audio is always more important!
the whole brightness thing was explained completely wrong. When you lower it on the avermedia webcam, the actual iso is being decreased. When doing the same thing on the streamcam, it affects the image after the settings have been baked into the image. It's the same thing as recording footage on a camera and then trying to fix in in post VS avermedia webcam equivalent would be changing iso on the camera before starting recording, nothing is baked in, that's why you have so much flexibility, not because of the dynamic range.
How does turning down the brightens in obs tell the camera to turn down the iso? Wouldn't it just bring the brightness of the image down?
@@NanoNutrino you can see him going in the actual webcam settings (configure video setting). Obs filters is a second layer of corrections in this case which can only adjust the baked image
@@simaskaciusis3246 ah, I see

They way you explained it is completely wrong and shows little logic to be honest
Great review!
And know we wait 1 and a half more months for another upload
Wonderful review. I am thinking about buying this camera for its high quality output when it's available in Germany. Is it possible to adjust the field of view though? Make it a bit more narrow thant 94°, as I want to use it for video calls and conferences (Zoom, ...). Besides that, do you happen to know why there is only a fixed focus and no autofocus? Thank you!
Edit: Just read in a comment: " Fixed focus is definitely the right choice" as there seems to be big problems with hunting in other webcam brands.
I'm not even a streamer but your video content and the way you present the information is awesome! New Subscriber here.
I’m actually blown away by the Avermedia camera 😳 looks like there’s hope in the webcam world
If im using quicktime, how could I control de settings of the camera?
I have been using the brio 4k for 2 years and i love this webcam....great for meetings.
Thanks for this review. AverMedias Cam looking real good. Can you test this Cam in your Stream like you did with the in the past with other Cams and gave us an additional feedback here? I wonder how it goes if the Cam is running for several hours.
Looks brilliant!
First off love the videos, when I saw this I got excited to see a Webcam actually come out that can finally compete. Really debating buying one of these but not sure if it would be more worth it to get a camera.
Hey Harris! Thanks for all the great vids you put out. I just came across new elgato phone webcam app called EpocCam. Was wondering if it was any good, worth buying the pro version, and if it is better than webcams for streaming and recording YT vids?? Thanks
It’s funny/awesome how high our expectations have grown when it comes to webcam quality.
I don't think it is all that crazy... It was crazy there wasn't something in between the $150 and $800 range that was simply easy to use. It just teleported in cost.
I bought the PW515. You are right. It was so-so out of the box. However, once I got into the software and adjusted the settings for my environment, it was way better. the 65-100 adjustable lens zoom is great for adjusting the shot.
I use a 1080p 60fps 100° webcam with 2 degrees of movement (swivel left/right, and tilt up/down), although it's mounted on one of those bendable metal arms so those movement options aren't really fully utilised in my case. My only gripe with my current camera is that I am unable to modify the settings of the camera (when you go into preferences in OBS and hit Configure Camera) as they are greyed out, however I've been able to adjust the settings within OBS filters anyway so it's not a massive issue. It was only 1/4th the price too so I'm pretty pleased with it.
id love to see this head to head with the GoPro Camlink setup. Def impressed overall!
Pls pls pls keep the videos coming they’re amazing
Super stoked about this camera. I’m def. snatching one up
holy crap dude, I love how companies are starting to pay attention!!
That camera looks good - And Yay for the AxeFX III :D
I might pick this up to add another angle and camera to my stream. I've been wanting to do a vertical layout for my live gaming scene and also keep a wide angle for when I'm just chatting but couldn't afford another mirrorless/camlink setup. I think this would be perfect for me. Good video harris!
Love it, do you think this camera would work well for single frame animation through a program like istopmotion? Thanks great review!
this webcam's amazing! best image quality i've seen on webcams.
however, using your mobile phone's camera is still a better option vs. webcams. and as phones get cheaper their camera always improves with the number of lenses they put in.
Omg yep! This is the next one! That's awesome!
Finally picked up mine for 150€ on amazon. Got a bright light and it works like a charm. Moving back from my 5100 because it was too much hastle to use, now I have the convenience of a webcam and it's awesome!
Harris, i found something cool you may want to tell your audience about. I paired a $10 usb-c to hdmi adapter with the $15 capture card, downloaded the "Open Camera" app which lets you hide all on-screen controls (e.g.: "clean hdmi out"), so i was able to mirror my phone screen (with camera app open and pointing at me) to my computer which recognized it as a webcam. There's no latency and the image quality is incredible.
This looks so good!
At first I was liking the stream cam better but then you did the side by side comparison and this is definitely a better camera.
So this new webcam is actually nuts. A couple things I'm really curious about are if those brightness, contrast, and saturation settings are now being treated as "pre-processed image" adjustments, or if the AverMedia actually just has an insane amount of stops of dynamic range. The other thing I noticed on the negative side that the Brio actually outperformed the AverMedia in seemed to be color fringing. I noticed it mostly in the hair where their seemed to be a dark halo around edges. This is usually either due to bad chroma subsampling or over-sharpening, but I don't see sharpening as the culprit here. Speaking of sharpening, one of the things I most liked about the AverMedia that's a game changer for me is the fact that the image doesn't have the classic webcam over-sharpening look that just about all other webcams have to compensate for low quality image processing (since of course it's all being powered by the CPU), and you can really see it in the side-by-side-by-side in the most detailed areas where compression is just killing the image quality on the Logitechs, but the AverMedia looks much more natural and crisp, which is really refreshing to see.
All in all, it's cool.
Great video! Been considering an upgrade to my c920 without having to use my Sony A7Riii.
Went to impulse buy on their site...but doesn’t seem to ACTUALLY be for sale anywhere yet. Lots of links to retailer sites that don’t feature it. :-/
My channel has been taking off in spite of the video quality. Followed your (and others) advice and put off upgrading my webcam until I had my other ducks in a row. Just went straight to Amazon and bought this at minute 7:50 in the video. My god this thing looks kick ass.
your channel has been taking off? you have no videos.....
Hi Harris,
Quick question for you as I was quite set on picking up a Sony A5100 (still trying to find out if there is software to go with it instead of investing another £120 ($150) on a cam link) however this has made me pause and think do I want this (AVermedia PW513) or the Sony A5100. Any thoughts or feedback?
Thanks, Zenith
lmao “this is what amd is doing to intel” made me piss my pants lol
same lmfao
2:14 when Harris shows the camera, it looks like a whole PS4 camera!!
Great content put out by the @alphateam as always!
11:41 You can get the background blur with the nvidia broadcast app though. You can even get a background removal without any need for a green screen. So I think I'll save up for the avermedia webcam, I don't think I'll need a fancy camera before a long time.
I wouldn't but for new content creators that want a solid, actually good image then its a no-brainer. Good job AverMedia.
Hey I bought the camera based on your review, but it looks grainy on stream slab . What setting should I have it set to? (New streamer here trying to get started)
I was already a fan of your YT content, but now that i know you play Apex, you have my unflinching loyalty.
love the content bro
The bigger dynamic range is an obvious plus, but I think the biggest factor in the improved image quality is the lens. The other two look fuzzy; the PW513 looks sharp (you had them all set to the same capture resolution, didn't you?). A very tempting potential upgrade from my C920.
For stream am users : if you have the same over exposed spot problem, bring gain down and you're good to go to tweak the other exposure parameters
Great video! I’m looking for a good webcam so this is great
Harris I currenly have a new 2020 mac book pro that I'm using to stream xbox gaming on twitch. I just bought this web cam and the lite version setting are limited when trying to configure the picture which looks basic to your video. Any tips on mac users settings for this camera. Thank you again.
My exams are coming soon and i watch your vids during my breaks hoping to get to streaming after my exams. My exams end in a month!
Aye good luck dude!
@@TheNadad thanks
Do it!!! It's a blast :D
So I got mine yesterday, and it's horribly grainy. Even after improving lighting and applying denoise filters. Is your footage here using post-processing, or just the settings you demonstrated? Other users on Reddit are reporting the same, and I'm wondering if I'm just overlooking something or there's a problem with some or all of the release cameras.
I think the quality control might be ass. I got one and after doing what he said in the video it vastly improved the image from being disastrously noisy to being well, I just had to heavily darken the image and then turn up my ring light. Some people have better lighting situations than mine and are having issues so I wonder if there's just a crapload of bum cameras floating around.
This looks like a great camera. The detachable cable is an awesome addition to this. I hate being tied down to the cable size of the product. Being able to buy my own giant cable is awesome. You're right, these little touches make a huge difference.
Also would you mind reviewing the AV1 encoder on the new AMD 6000 series if you can get your hands on one? They look like a great deal for the power you get so far, but I've heard and seen nothing about how it will handle streaming. Maybe you can talk AMD into sending you one with a 5000 series CPU's and a 6000 series GPU and call it the ultimate AMD Streaming setup review xD. IMO if the streaming encoder for the new AMD cards is just as good as Nvenc on the Nvidia 3000's, that's a HUGE deal for AMD marketing.
I personally use a gopro hero 4 as a webcam with the cheap cam link that you had in the cheap stream tech video and honestly it works great and all my friends agree
I'm extremely impressed. Thank you alpha and aver
same here this thing is a beast
Having a c920, would you upgrade to the avermedia or to a mirrorless camera?
So I want to add a second cam to my stream. Currently have a Logitech C922x and was gonna get a second one. Also looking to replace my current mic, which is the turtle beach stream mic (I know it is not great but I get decent sound out of it thanks to some of the recent sound videos here, so thanks for that), but i want to get the elgato wave 3. Torn on whether I should should get a better cam and replace my mic later, or focus on upgrading my mic and then just get a second C922x when I can. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Looks great, indeed. May be upgrading from my C925e to it =)
I'm thinking about improving the quality in Zoom and Meet, and buying a camera or a webcam would be a first step in content creation too. In that case, what woulld you do?
1) Start with this webcam or similar (the difference in quality between these products is huge, though) and maybe something like Elgato Key Light.
2) Go straight to a Mirrorless camera or DSLR. An example: Canon M200, CamLink 4k and Elgato Key Light or something cheaper.
I know that the second option is quite expensive compared to the first one, specially if we include the light equipment. On the other hand, a camera like the M200 is more versatile and offers options like vlogging, product show case and so on.
What do you guys think?
Thank you, Harris, for the review. I've been learning a lot with your videos.
Question! Were you running the AverMedia webcam at 4k 30fps, or 1080p 60fps? Maybe I missed it, but I'm seeing other reviews with poor image quality (grainy) when run at 1080p 60fps
AverMedia is a great company. I love using their products!!
Hey Harris, have you checked the Akaso Brave 4? It's an action cam with built in webcam over USB function. Not as good as the newer gopros, but its $80...
I think it does 1080p 30 over USB but records 4k 24 or 1080p 60
Wow that webcam is incredible. Easy choice if you're going for an upgrade.
I have been a fan of AVermedia's products for awhile and this webcam does look great I will say Logitech actually does have a conference grade PTZ cameras witch might be more of a comparison.
My question is with the Canon software you can grab some powershot cameras like the G5X Mark II witch is about 400$. With the Powershot will you start to get some of those high end camera functions, and better image quality? or would it just be a glorified webcam?
I have been using the GoPro8 (Got it used and firmware upgrade to 2.0) with the beta webcam software. Its over usb. It works pretty good.
i had a C920 camera, and config very well, i had a pretty decent good video quality. you need to use Logitech Gaming Software, to pop-up the own natural settings of the camera and save it. i recommend turn on the auto-exposure on so the scan lines will don't see on screen.
with Logitech cameras, if you had a very bright and good illumination, you can turn down a bit the exposure, so will see better and more realistic. in the other way only turn on the auto-exposure for a balance between both.
what are your thoughts on on the Logitech C930? How would it compare? (FYI: I got one from work...haven't used it...and, may have to return it...but I am curious how it stacks up.)
Only a small question, what is it like when the hertz is changed in a darker room? does the image show lines which flicker on a higher hertz than a lower setting? (similar to the logitech C920)
think we need 3 Harris cams at all times. :) Great review, looks good against the Brio which is what i have for work. Once you go mirrorless tho, hard to go back. cam link with a dslr or mirrorless is amazing, but this cam looks very nice.
Have u done a review on the Aston stealth mic yet ?
Cam engine doesnt have any exposure setting? I get worried when I just see brightness setting. It does look great, it has good autoexposure? The avermedia camera saves the obs settings?
Is this available anywhere yet? I think I missed that part. I’m also not seeing it in the description so I’m guessing it isn’t available anywhere yet. Looks fantastic though!
One thing I notice with AverMedia PW513 is the smoothness of the frames it produces, it kinda makes it look like it's blurring motion because the higher frames.
One of few issues with adding a camera in OBS is that when you sometimes plugin a camera and add it to your scene, the framerate is absolute garbage and has to be fixed through whatever software to make it use the correct settings.
That looks good! ❤️
I wish you switched between the Brio and the new camera as much as you did with the StreamCam. This seems like more of a competitor with the Brio as it has 4K and the wider field of view, plus the closer pricing. I do agree the Brio’s color accuracy is lacking though. I’d like to see your comparison between this webcam and the C920. High budget & great review vs entry level priced & most common.
The quality definitely looks great. As a Brio user, I can't justify another $250 for the amount of upgrade I would get with this but that's just me. I would, however, be interested in seeing a raw side by side of these 3 with default settings.
So would you recommend upgrading to the Aver from the C920?!
After watching a couple of reviews, including this one I bought the PW513. After upgrading my PC, lighting and using similar settings talked about here, the outcome was still the same...horrible! The noise is so bad. I just returned the cam and picked up the Brio 4K Pro and it's night and day! Save yourself the hassle and gran the Logitech for the same price or a little cheaper if it's on sale.
So excited about this cam and wanted to buy it... not available on Amazon Europe... i hate to order somewhere else but i guess i have to. thanks for the great comparison!
