- When Luna, a horse, came to the farm, they found out that she had moon blindness and it was only going to get worse. They decided to bring in a companion for her, Petey the donkey. Petey helped guide Luna to the pasture and is always there to make sure she can navigate her way around.

Donkeys are the most underrated and - sadly - mistreated animal I know of. They’re so kind and gentle.
And extremely intelligent too, even more than horses.

What about wasps? They get a terrible rep, much worse than donkeys. They are hugely important for ecosystems and great mothers.
Or vultures who help dispose of disease in the environment and are incredibly intelligent and some species form bonds with other species of vultures and even other birds of prey like caracaras and preen them. They even use tools!
Donkeys are hardly the most underrated animal, they are quite charismatic and well liked

The more I learn about donkey's the more impressed I am with them. They're supposed to be excellent livestock guardians too!
I'm convinced, more and more, that humans aren't the actual intelligent species of the world. All the other animals are, and us humans just haven't figured it out quite as well as they all have.

Well you wouldn't put a blind person down just because they can't use their eyes anymore. It makes sense for this lovely horse to have the best years of his life with a good friend by his side.

The same behaviour can be seen older animals with babies or children from any species. They understand the vulnerability, the need for nurture and cuddles. They have a level of decency I haven't seen in humans for a long time

Such a beautiful and heartwarming story. Whilst so many people around the world think animals are just plain stupid, I’d have to say how very wrong they are. I couldn’t imagine a world without them. We love and take care of our animals. But they often do a REMARKABLE job taking care of each other! Petey's brays all sound essentially the same to my ears. But Luna apparently hears subtle differences and knows what to do and where to step. She clearly enjoys his company and assistance. And he seems to derive a sense of accomplishment and self-worth from their relationship.

I have always loved animals and can't imagine live a day without my dogs by my side. More I get to know them, more I see the purity in them. With the conditions of our human society today, I am glad I have my animals with me.

Truly lovely! How the donkey knows she can't see & so gently coaxes her out of the barn & into the field is so heartwarming. My 14 yr old Lasa Apso lost his sight during the last 4 yrs of his life so I was his 'guide man'. Their other senses become heightened, I noticed this with Benny. I'm so glad that Luna has a loyal 'guide donkey' to help her appreciate life & be there for her. Thank you 😀

I had a similar situation with my first horse. She became blind due to Moon Blindness & cataracts. I had gotten a dwarf miniature horse as a companion for my horse. He passed away unexpectedly. Then I got a miniature donkey named Pedro. My horse has passed away in 2008. I still have my donkey. He lives with a friend now with 2 horses & 3 goats
