The word probiotic was first introduced into common usage by a marketing agency wanting to make a yogurt product sound more than what it was, just yogurt.
The true meaning of the word has been highjacked and is now used for all sorts of pseudoscience of which this product is a classic example.
You would do better Robin to put a high-grade filter directly behind your external grille inlet.
Love your skill and knowledge on all subjects, with this one exception.

Can’t speak more highly of a mvhr system, clean fresh air everywhere and minimal to no damp, as well as minimal dust. Dust mites can’t survive below a certain humidity. However I have a microbiologist professor for a better half, who loves and knows about bacteria and she laughed out loud when I told her about putting into the air. Using the machine simply as a fragrance alone would be a better selling point.

Thank you for that information it is always good to hear from an expert. I am glad to hear that she loves bacteria, the human race started from such beginnings. It is a shame to see people killing every little thing that they don't understand or love..

Yep, agree with other comments. Might be nice to add a scent but rest is utter nonsense, lol. Love other videos but should have saved this one for April 1st.

    Two thoughts on this Robin:
This will obviously impact the air flow right from the fresh air flow which may bugger up any necessary careful ventilation calculations that have been done. (Minor impact really).
But more importantly I'd question quite how safe it is to add any form of moisture to the ventilation system especially post filter. Which also raises concerns about longevity of the system especially as you've used metallic duct.

Systems are always designed to handle some moisture because that's unavoidable...

It would be much more professional if they sized it all properly and included a rubber bung for the supply tube where its introduced into the vent shaft rather than having to put a dab of polymer seal on afterwards.

Do you think it would be better to fit a gromit in the hole so the pipe can be fitted and retracted as many times as you like? I know you don't necessarily need to take the pipe out but it would leave a very clean looking job around the hole.

Why would you go to all that bother to clean your indoor air and then add a scent to it? Undoes all the good work.

I'd recommend bipolar ionisation which is effective against particular matter, vocs and airborne bacteria and viruses. Have a look at ionair

I was going to make another joke about the woo-woo, but it occurred to me that the introduction of this element may really just be an admission that this (and perhaps other) MVHR system is prone to bacterial build-up if it isn't kept clean in some approved manner. Surely it would be better to fix the problem by adding drains and/or antibacterial surfaces where moisture is most likely to gather and the risk of bacterial mats building up is greatest? Or maybe the marketing department ran a whalesong session and blue-skied a box of readily-retrofitted pseudoscience which just happened to take advantage of their customers' current Covid-19 fears...

  • @explorer47422

What would you say is the advantage of MVHR of something like Direct Control Ventilation? (DCV), I know you get the heat recovery but you'd only use that in winter, but it's phenomenally more expensive over DCV just for effectively that one benefit

    • @edwardholmes91
      @edwardholmes91 Před 3 lety

Can the heat recovery work in reverse... i.e. if you have AC it draws in fresh hot air from the outside but cools it in the heat exchanger?
