  • Down underneath the old colliery to see if we can find a way in. These tunnels are part of an old underground system of tunnels built by James Brindley, we were trying to find a way down into the mine or find the tail race back up to the wheel pit. We will be back here soon.
    big thank you to-

We had to get out of there fast a couple of times as the gas meter was going nuts, make sure you don't pass out! Also that gravel plug is holding back allot of water, digging through that could drain the rest of the system including the wheel pit. So much to see beyond that though, how full of mud it maybe is anyone's guess though :)

Great video lads. I come from that part of the world and remember tours being advertised as late as 1995(ish). Plus great forward insight with unblocking obstacles towards then end of the video - But I'd say just be careful next time you're down there and look out for any hidden surprises. Roll on Part Two. :D

Great video guy's and well done for finding a way in, I knew you guy's would find a way in there if anyone could. No wonder they named it Wet Earth Colliery, with all that mud you could start up a mud bath business and make a fortune ! Any idea when you will be going back ?

Looks like the water level has been high at times in that tunnel, was it a coal mine?

To me that hose coming in must have been used to pump water from the tunnels for the tours. It looks like the hose goes beneath your feet into that blockage. So... youve already got spades there what you's waiting for? haha

The mud that releases hydrogen sulfide will be heavy in organics, like a river bank not so much underground. Support timbers rot and foul the air with carbon dioxide, displacing o2. Fire damp (methane) in coal mines may not be on your meter. They are 3 or 5 gas mostly. A explosive gas detector has a platinum mesh and other doodads you won't find in an air meter.
